  1. He didn't mention names but TB said on the MAC head coaches call that we lost our LT before half time and that is why we were ineffective with the run in the second half. We were down both starting tackles. Kyle Ritz hasn't been doing a bad job but his inexperience shows up at times. Woodson's blindside was left completely exposed in one play on Saturday.
  2. It must have really stunk before Chuck Amatto arrived, then. There is no convincing you. Quite honestly, the way you people complain about coaches is like going to a high school football game. Get over it and get behind the players. You demand winning, but I see very little support for the kids.
  3. By pointing out that BG has put up 500+ yards in every game, including top 20 ranked teams?????? Get real. To say that BG has a couple of more talented players is just plain ridiculous. Their QB is nothing short of incredible and they have receivers who consistently make catches.
  4. Go look at the stats from every previous game BG has played this year - all, including Tennessee and Memphis gave up over 500 yards in D. I thought the one 15 yard penalty where Monroe was charged with roughing the passer was BS. We got beat by better players, period. Woodson will improve and will be very good for us as he does.
  5. Care to give any examples?
  6. You don't think BG had better players?
  7. Based on the logic here, I guess we should also expect the following coaches to be fired: Frank Solich for letting OU for getting blown out. Jim Harbaugh for losing the game over a fumbled snap. Ole Miss for being upset by Memphis James Franklin for loosing to TempleI heard no praise for Jeff Bowden when we blocked punts, but you want to fire him when the return man has a brain frat and a not great snap and blown block allow our punt to be blocked. It isn't rocket science. BG had better players. There was no "outcoaching." Good luck finding someone who will recruit better than TB. I never counted BG as one of our 7 wins. I hope Tommy Woodson is OK. We are in trouble if he isn't.
  8. Like I said, unlikely. ST coaches can't control bad snaps and kids making mistakes.
  9. Unlikely
  10. Nice to see us have a rough start and work through it to flip the momentum. Keep it up!
  11. I love how we can mix up the short yardage play calling when Cody is in the game. Great QB keeper.
  12. The way the run is open right now, I don't think it'd change a thing. We are going to connect sooner or later and as long as we keep moving the ball, I don't care how we are doing it.
  13. I pretty much agree with this. Their special teams defense is not strong. We might get a little help from that in the battle for field position. We can not be discouraged if we have to punt to win field position, it has to be part of the game plan. I agree that we can easily put up 38, maybe even more. We have really grown this year by battling every down. It is an area of marked improvement. I think we can run for 200 yards with the passing game opening up the run and I think our offense will surprise everyone who thinks this all hinges on our D.I think if we can get some stops early in the game, we can keep Johnson under 400 yards. 14. What a terrific preview. It might do some of our own posters some good to read it as this guy from BG seems more impressed with us than some of our own people. I do think he got it backwards that the run sets up the pass, I think it has been the other way around. I also think we have the potential to have an explosive offense with Woodson, Lane, Young, and Davis. Davis going to break one of his mid-range passes for a TD, soon. He has been excellent after the catch. Everyone has their antennas up for Lane. This should really open it up for other receivers. If they put a safety over the top on Jerome, Young might make them pay for it.
  15. I am less worried about BG and more concerned that the UA offense, defense, and special team show up. If we all show, we can win. Special Teams will playmaker role in field position and help us win if we execute well.
  16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H What I wouldn't give for a decent article on the Zips this year instead of the drivel we have seen.
  17. We have a lot of talent coming, up, too. Brock Boxen is playing solidly and Brian Bell is going to be the real deal. Gilbert and Hauser have looked good and I saw John Rachal hit a guy so hard it knocked the ball loose after a catch last year on his first down of the season. It was one of the hardest hits I have seen from the Zips. I would think it would be hard to switch him back after the early success we have had with him at WR. Excitement was a missing component from the Zips offense and he has helped bring it. I know this is a Jerome Lane thread, but it would be remiss to mention that Imani Davis has really stepped up his game, too. He is consistently making solid catches and been outstanding after the catch. Really nice to see a piece of the puzzle that has been frustrating finally come together.
  18. It has really been great to see both return guys make excellent choices in what to return and what not to return, too.
  19. I am very excited about the combination of Woodson and Lane. These guys will have 2 more years to develop together. We have really only begun to scratch the surface with them. I agree, with the idea of him getting some summer coaching to develop some of the skills Bowden has mentioned. I think it is fair to say that we have discovered the playmaker and hat's off to the coach's for having the vision for this. Let's hope his success at Akron leads the way for other local talent to come to Akron.
  20. I believe he was 4-4 on Saturday.
  21. Zips football, "In the NCAA stats, released today, Akron sophomore WR Jerome Lane leads the nation in yards per reception (28.83)." https://www.facebook.com/ZipsFB/photos/a.389446831069401.105042.145583715455715/1195051647175578/?type=3&fref=nf
  22. Statistically, FWIW, we will be the toughest defense BGU has played all year. I do believe we can contain their offense enough to win.
  23. We are going to pass the ball almost as easily as we did against EMU, we would be fools not to do it. It will open up the run game for us and should deliver another balanced offensive attack. UMass was easily able to complete short and midrange passes. They have given up a ton of points this season. They are a fast tempo game. We can easily move the ball down the field by completing short to mid-range passes and running the ball that will give our defense the opportunity for the rest it needs. We cannot abandon the big play, however. It will keep the defense honest. 3rd down conversions (which vastly improved against EMU), winning the penalty and turnover games, as well as field position (implication = special teams) will all be key to us being in a position to win.
  24. I don't remember there being any blatant drops like we have seen in the past. Bear in mind, we ran the ball 53 times, several scores were short drives due to big pass plays, and TW did not play in the 4th quarter. Of other note, Woodson was sacked only once, on them first drive. He was not only able to avoid other sacks but able to throw some very good passes under pursuit. He also was 11-69 rushing. We averaged 10.1 yards per pass completion.
  25. I can't disagree with that.
