Agree with this, and use the TE (Newman Williams)! I also would like to see us run the FB, whether it be Grice or Williams, on plays other than 3rd and short, once in a while. VT had some success with this and I think we could, too. I tend to agree. Non-conference wins are moral wins, but the goals are still to compete for the MAC title and to get a bowl birth. Both still attainable if we can work out the offense. Chapman was clearly improved. He has talent, he needs experience. This is a serious concern. If we put all our eggs in the KP16 basket, and truly, nothing against him, we could be in trouble. Is this perhaps, why he has been more limited in non-conference play, against bigger defenses?

Sometimes there are factors at play that the cans just aren't aware of until much later. I caught word, after the game, from someone listening to the game on the radio, that Pohl left the game for concussion protocol and went into the locker room. I totally missed that from the stands. This could have also been a factor in limiting Pohl against, arguably, the strongest defense the Zips will see all year. Also, is Bowden sticking with Chapman because he believes we can win a few games with Pohl, but not the MAC and believes if we give Chapman the experience we can win the MAC with him? He would never come out and say that in an interview, but it think it's a possibility. There are some already on the Chapman stinks bandwagon. I will say he looks inexperienced. He improved from game 1 to game 2. I am willing to let them to work through some issues in out of conference if it means we have a shot at the MAC title. We really need 7 wins to go to a bowl. With our MAC schedule and Savannah State we can still get 7 wins. Assuming our offense gets its act together by MAC play, here they are: Savannah State Ohio EMU UMass Miami Buffalo Can't StateBowling Green will be a tough game for us. I was impressed with how well they played TN. CMU is winnable, but won't be easy. Bowden has said our season isn't made or broken in the heat of the summer, but it will be won in the cold of November. The out of conference games are moral wins, if we get them, but the goals are still the MAC championship (I see that as a pretty far stretch) and a bowl game birth, which is attainable if we can work out the offense. It's entirely possible we win our last four straight games. Great way to end the season.

Not being overdramatic at all, are you?

We stink at every game in the rain. We can play in the cold, not the rain. I don't get it. It rains for both teams. Running the same play with the fake handoff and a Chapman run all of the time doesn't work. Any word on KP16 re: concussion? I missed it but caught it onto he radio on the way home. Agree with everyone that the D is playing fairly well but the offense needs to pitch in. I have had it with undisciplined personal fouls. The weather was the most miserable weather I have ever endured watching football. Give me snow, any day over this. I think I am on the Milwee must go bandwagon. And, I think he needs to go now, not at the end of the season. I am concerned that it will be closer than any of us want next week against Savannah State. I don't how we can drastically improve the offense, rapidly. Not opposed to trying Chapman at WR, but if KP16 did indeed suffer a concussion, we are in trouble. Either Chapman, who has struggled or Woodson, who has a history of turnovers. I am usually optimistic, but it is hard to be so, right now. I think Chapman has potential and at least we sawed him complete some passes, but he has struggled. Why did we have ACC refs? Hats off to the many fans who stuck it out in inclement weather. How will we ever recruit a quality QB until we have a line that will protect him?

George Thomas is a jerk. I know you read here, George, and I don't care. You are a jerk. Mocking of the program begins about 44:50. It's not so much the content, it's the tone. Something was cut out. I would love to hear that was. And of course, George went to that other school in Ohio. Time to let the ABJ know we have had it with George. He comes in around 40 min into the audio. http://files.triblive.com/podcasts/sportstalk/521PITT15.mp3

Isn't that an old slide created and shown while they were still considering options? The drama over this is so out of control.

Agreed.

The university has made strides to improve the game day experience, the band has added 70 additional members and new uniforms, let's support the team by showing up and waiting for them at the Roo walk. This is a huge game and we need to show the team that we are behind them. Let's give future recruits a little something more to look forward to as a future Zip. It only lasts a couple of minutes and then we can resume tailgating. The Roo Walk is at 4:00 PM - let's be there at 3:50-3:55 to support the team.

I noticed a bunch of what appeared to be recent alumni tweets last week saying they had received 2 tickets for each home game in the mail. I think this was a great idea. If we are already buying the tickets, why not get money from parking and concessions, if possible.

From Cardiac Hill: Pitt to see familiar face against Akron in former recruit Tra'Von Chapman http://www.cardiachill.com/2015/9/8/9272329/pitt-football-pittsburgh-panthers-travon-chapman-terry-bowden-paul-chryst-recruiting

I was extremely pleased to see this. I love the idea of using him from the 5 and a direct snap - awesome! I also loved the pass to Williams. Effectively using a TE and/or FB can really help our passing game. I thought Virginia Tech utilized their FB very well last night in the first half. Looking forward to more from Grice and Williams on offense.

Ollison broke one for 71. We can't allow that. After watching us contain Perine, I think we can probably contain their run game as long as our offense can show up to help.

I agree with a lot of this. My only concern about moving Chapman to WR would be what we do next year. Getting a true freshman, who is ready to compete, could be pretty challenging. I especially agree with #1. I am not sure it was such a bad plan. I don't think at our best we could have competed with OU. They might very well be the best team we see over the next 3 years. I share your concern about WR, apart from Lane. I think we probably need to give it a little time, though, as there were not that many catchable passes. If I remember correctly, we hit the TE once, but that was it. I would also like to see more of that. I can't say for sure about Coe, but I was impressed with Jamal Marcus - he had a good outing as did Pittman. Someone left early - might have been Coe, but it was cramping, not an injury, I think. RE; #91 - They said he tried to punch a coach but I didn't see it on the replay. I thought it was Monroe who got it into it on the sidelines. I was pleased that the team did not quit, like it seemed we did against Marshall. Lastly, hat's off to Stoops for the class act of not humiliating us. It has to be tempting, given he college football playoff situation, and he chose not to do that. I talked some friends who went and had nothing but positive things to say. The said the fans were very welcoming and thanked them for coming. Thanks for your friendly participation and insights in this thread, pphilifran!

OK, if you're smarter because you make opinions based on a season where the kid didn't attend camp, and started part way through the season, then so be it, lol.

We will be much more successful with the run at Pitt. I won't be surprised to see a similar 2 QB offense this week and it will likely look a lot better. I am expecting a great game from Jerome Lane. Narduzzi on Akron: “Next on deck. They took a defeat to a Top 20 team, Oklahoma. Both are good football teams. I watched both sides of the ball just to see the new stuff as opposed to [just watching] the old stuff from last year. They’re loaded up. They’re a good football team. Defensively, they’re very similar to Youngstown State as far as transfers, defensive ends, and are very well coached by Terry Bowden. Their defense is very similar to what we do. They’re very well coached and will be a challenge. It’s a road game for us so we’ll get to travel out to Akron on Friday and take our game on the road.” http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/090715aac.html

I don't disagree, but he still looked significantly more athletic than the other 2. He has lost weight and looks good. We know he can pass. Can he avoid I receptions?
-
QB rushing stats: Woodson 3/30, Chapman 14/48, Pohl 2/-7. If we expect a QB to run +20 times per game there is no reason to okay KP16. He looks completely unathletic when attempts to run.
-
Woodson would be the guy I would look to start against Pitt. He looked better than the other 2 and if we are committed to a QB running game, it can't be Pohl. Pohl was horrible when he had to run - he just isn't a runner. Frankly, if we are that committed to a QB running, KP16 should not have been the #2, Woodson should have been the #2. I really hope what we saw from Chapman was an anomaly and not really who he was.
