As the season rapidly approaches, who are you most excited to see perform? I listed the players I am most curious to see, but I am sure I left some out. Jason Chisholm's performance in the spring game left me wanting to see a lot more from him. Oren Wilson's absence in that game really leaves me wondering. But the guy I really want to see is Tyler Williams after he ran wild in the all-star games.

I feel exactly the same way. Tyler Williams is going to be a special player for us.

I voted for Jawon Chisholm simply because I had to miss the Spring Game and I'm anxious to see what you are all raving about. Another player who could have been included in the poll is former Iowa-commit/JUCO transfer DE John Griggs (6-5, 260).
+1You are absolutely correct about Griggs. He should have been on the list. Defensive line may wind up being a real strength for the Zips in '11.

Even though this isn't specific to one player, I am most interested in seeing if these new players help sustain the improvement we saw in the last three games of last year. Since two of them were Buffalo and Ball State was that improvement genuine or just a mirage? These guys will help prove that one way or another.

Man would that help out our secondary!
You're right. A d-line that can control the line of scrimmage makes Bryan Wagner even better as well. We need three and outs. Make 'em punt the ball to Tyler Williams. Can ya tell I'm getting excited? Are you readyfor some foooootbaaaaaallll?

I voted for Ianello, who's obviously not a player. But his growth as a head coach will dictate whether 2011 is a respectable season for Zips football, or another abject failure.I look at a lot of the stuff he did last season...the FG attempt against Syracuse on 4th and 2. The FG positioning @ K.e.n.t. when we had PLENTY of time to get 7 points within the red zone (before half time). Kicking off twice against a 1-AA team. Losing to a bad 1-AA team at home. I'll stop there. It will be highly interesting to see if Ianello actually tries to win games this season, or if he's comfortable in his contract situation, and relationship with the AD, playing conservative and captaining that slow, methodical program-building process that we all know and love. Maybe the wins come in a couple years? :puke:

I went with AJ Price. No real reason, just a feeling. We don't know if Moore will start. Rossi and Wilson might be injured. Chisholm's spring game was good, but it was against our defense. Williams will be the most exciting player of the bunch if he is allowed to return kicks and punts.

I voted other. The player I want to see on the field next year is Brett Biggs Version 2.0. I don't care how big the guy is, how fast he runs or how high he can jump. I want to see who the next guy focused on winning is AND produces winning results. It could be anyone and fans are frequently surprised by the person when he reveals himself. I'd be happy to be surprised.

The player who can make the greatest impact on the team, and therefore the one I want to see most, is Clayton Moore. Hands down he can make the biggest difference. In deference to the Captain, the team member who can make the greatest difference is no doubt Ianello. I have been critical of him and still remain doubtful as to his ability. That being said, I still am rooting for him to surprise us all and to succeed. Three wins keeps me rooting for him. Four wins is over-achievement in my book. Five wins or more leaves me ecstatic.Folks I'm easily pleased. Come on coach, give us something to believe in!

In the MAC, the team with the best QB typically is the one left standing at the end. What we have struggled with since Getsy has left is having a solid QB under center that can lead this team. Is Clayton that guy? I certainly hope so because I have stated that I am just not buying into PN7, but hopefully one of them can step up big for us.Next would be the RB, Chisholm, just to be able to see a dynamic RB that people raved out would be a bright spot for a woeful offense that we have seen lately.

I like Price, I am interested to see on which side of the ball Rossi ends up.I am excited to see Chisholm for the reason that you say. He did great against our defense. But what you leave out of that statement, is that he was the only back who did great against our defense. That doesn't mean I think the defense proved anything, far from it, but I do think Chisholm doing what he did to our defense, and the other backs looking mediocre against our defense, means Chisholm should be the # 1. And I am excited to see if he can run like that all the time. But for me its the "Lone Ranger" I want to see what someone who should be playing for an SEC school can do to win the starting position. He seemed nervous the first series in the spring game (as anyone taking an important test is) but he settled down and looked darn good the rest of the afternoon. This kid was high on 6-7 Automatic Qualifier school's list and he loses his chances because his HS coach didn't like his attitude. That spells "something to prove" and that was the mentality he took in JUCO. Maybe we have a losing season, maybe we don't, but at least there are some things to be excited and anxious about.

Oh oh. Wasn't the dline supposed to be a team strength last year?

To say that Sewell was a disappointment last year would be a huge understatement. Hopefully this year will be different. Dan Marcoux can make plays. I've seen him do it. So can Hazime. Those two need more consistency. Wilson and Griggs would certainly appear to have what it takes to succeed. Nico had a really good spring. If a couple more guys can get in the rotation and contribute, they could be good. Then again, I may just be overly optimistic.

It's about time to revisit this thread.AJ Price has been a non factor. StatsWe burned Tyler Williams redshirt for this level of integration into the game plan.John Griggs and Oren Wilson have got the Big 10 pedigree to come in and make a difference. They haven't.The Lone Ranger hasn't exactly ridden into town and saved the day.CK most anticipated the performance of RI. I am afraid the critics panned that performance.GP1, Brett Biggs 2.0 is a.w.o.l.Nick Rossi looks like he may develop into a good player. We need to utilize him a little better.Which leaves us with Jawon Chisholm, the only guy mentioned that has put a smile on a Zips fan's face. Here's to you, Chisel. I am dedicating my Homecoming tailgate to you and your performance thus far.
