Big Zip
So Ianello's coaches were recruiting Brian to play for Arizona? Thank god those guys are gone.
LZIp
Would have liked him to stay, but he did nothing wrong by leaving. Like others have said, he has fulfilled his obligation to the University. Some of you need to quit acting like crazy ex-girlfriends lol
zipsbandman
If Bowden and his band of merry men are as good as we believe, they will bring in plenty of Brian Wagners. We're going to bring in much better talent than we have seen these last two years. We'll be fine. We're not expected to do anything next season anyway so what good is it to him to stay through another rebuilding period?
ZachTheZip
So Ianello's coaches were recruiting Brian to play for Arizona? Thank god those guys are gone. This is the worst part of it. They refuse to stop damaging our program even after they're gone.
akronzips71
This is the worst part of it. They refuse to stop damaging our program even after they're gone. If we owe them any money we should not pay them. Let them sue us.
72 Roo
Good riddance. If he doesn't want to be here, then he isn't a true Zip and I don't want him on the team. Have fun with Dick Rod and his pathetic defenses. That hurts to say because he has been my favorite player for 3 years. This is an early candidate for ignorant post of the new year. Brian did everything he could for us. He is a class act. He did not let Akron down, Akron let him down by putting him in a pathetic program for the last 3 years. I'm a lifetime member of the Varsity A and I would welcome him with open arms. Best of luck 34 in Arizona.
Rockhopper Wallaroo
I wish Brian all the best. The guy played his heart out every down. Too bad he was dealt the situation that was the last couple of years, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Best of luck Brian, sorry you had to endure the crap storm that was Akron football as of late. ZipRoo
While I can't blame Wagner for wanting to put the final year of JD and the two debacle years of Ianello behind him, I don't support fleeing the only school that offered you a D-1 scholarship. It's a classless move. There's a lot to be said for loyalty and integrity. I've lost a lot of respect for the kid.

Zipgrad01
Not really. Brian fulfilled his obligations to UofA in his graduating. Sort of like me dying. If I died, my wife is free to marry anyone she wanted. Granted, she could never find anyone as great as the Great GP1, but the option would be there. Good luck to Brian and again, welcome to alumni parties in 2013. Didn't realize out program died, but ok.

Dr Z
Good luck to Brian, I hope he finds what he is looking for in Arizona. Now maybe fans will be able to get his jersey next year.
Captain Kangaroo
Oh well. I'd like to welcome him back to any football alumni party the Zips will be throwing in 2013. It would be cool if he were in your foursome.
zestycoyote
Interesting, article says he will study Statistics in graduate school. Akron has a Masters Degree program in Statistics. It's generally a good idea to get a different perspective when doing graduate work. Not everyone wants to live in Akron forever. Everyone on this board should be excited that someone associated with the University of Akron has the opportunity to play football at a higher level, let alone study at an excellent school (Arizona). He signed a contract to play football for our school until he graduated. He did that. It wasn't a blood contract, people. Be happy for the guy. skip-zip
Kids will do what they want to do. The only thing that bothers me is that we just lost the only solid tackler on the defense presently. Bowden and Amato have their work cut out for them to return that unit to respectability anytime soon.

The rule for graduating/transferring/playing without sitting a year is that If one has graduated, they can transfer and not sit a year if the new school has a graduate program that the old one didn't offer. I have to believe that even the current players on the roster will be more motivated and "coached up" than they have been since their arrival at UA. I wouldn't wanna go face an angry Coach Amato after letting a running back slice thru me like a hot butter knife. It's time to light a fire under some players' butts. Let's see some energy and pride in their ability to stop the opposition. After all, that IS what they've been given a valuable scholarship to do, isn't it? Either you're a D-1 player or you're not. If you're not, please step aside and let the MEN onto the field.

Lighting a fire under a guy only does so much, if he is a poor tackler. Like I said, I wish them luck. That's going to be a tough job to get that defense working again in the short term, without Wagner as an anchor.

Yeah, at least someone got my point. It must be some specialty statistics. I mean technically Business Statistics is different then just Statistics, but I call shenanigans. Obviously his decision wasn't about moving to a winning program, or not playing for different coach for a third time. Good luck in 'Zona Wags, you're a Zip to me, and you will need all the luck you can get playing at your new train wreck.

Lighting a fire under poor talent is the difference between beating the Saints and Pats in consecutive weeks by large margins and never sniffing that kind of win a year later. We don't have BCS busting talent on our roster like NIU or Toledo, but we have enough talent to help have a mediocre season next year with the coaching we have. The first thing Bowden is going to do is make sure his guys have confidence in themselves. The next thing is having confidence in each other. Then he will give them a reason to believe they can win. And hopefully proof of that belief comes within the first two weeks.
ZIPFB#1
It is a different grad degree. Bio-statistics. Medicine statistics. It has always been about the schooling. I want to thank everyone who has supported my son. He loves Akron. I heard him repeatedly tell reporters that yesterday. He will miss his teammates and wishes Akron nothing but the best. I also want to add that Coach Bowden has been very good to him. The Zips are in good hands! Go Zips!
