Captain Kangaroo
Congrats to Zeke! It will be interesting to see of the Celtics give him a look next fall. They have absolutely zero defensive presence in the low post.
Dave in Green
GameChngr44, you're right. I'm getting a little slow. Let me try to make up for it by pointing out this recent story about Zeke. It's not a fluff piece, as it has a balance of credit for what Zeke has already accomplished in the D-League with a frank appraisal of where he needs to improve to make it to the NBA. Dave in Green
More congratulations to Zeke for taking yet another step forward in his quest to play in the NBA:NEW YORK - May 8, 2014 - The NBA Development League announced today that Maine Red Claws players Damen Bell-Holter, Abdul Gaddy and Zeke Marshall are three of the 37 players that will be participating in the league's fifth annual Elite Mini Camp on Monday, May 12 and Tuesday, May 13 at Chicago’s Quest Multisports gym.The camp features top 2013-14 NBA D-League prospects and, through drill work and full-court games, gives players an opportunity to display their skills and be evaluated by NBA team personnel in advance of NBA Summer Leagues and 2014 training camps.Link to full story.

Dave in Green
Ada Zip, found a story that said this event is closed to the public. The story also gives an idea of the odds Zeke is facing:Twenty-seven athletes who participated in last year’s NBA D-League Elite Mini Camp went on to play in NBA Summer League in Orlando or Las Vegas, while eight of those players earned NBA training camp invitations. Tour’e Murry and Hollis Thompson, who both played at the 2013 NBA D-League Elite Mini Camp, spent the entire 2013-14 season in the NBA with the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers, respectively.I recall a coach saying he thought Zeke needed about two years of development after college to be NBA ready, and this is the end of Zeke's first year of pro development.

Captain Kangaroo
I would love to know the Celtics interest in their D-League Zeke vs This GuyIs it better to play overseas than the D-League?
Dave in Green
First, it's better to be drafted than undrafted. Second, it probably matters less where you play than how you play. Third, the jury's still out.
Dr Z
Is it better to play overseas than the D-League?Fourth, the beer is better, fifth the wine is better, sixth, the gaming is worse, seventh, the art is better, eighth, the language is different. The jury is still out on how homesick one would get.
GP1
Fourth, the beer is better, fifth the wine is better, sixth, the gaming is worse, seventh, the art is better, eighth, the language is different. The jury is still out on how homesick one would get.For a single guy like Zeke, this might be important....Ninth, European women are much easier to get into the sack than American women. Since this is a basketball forum, one might say getting a European woman in the sack is a slam dunk.Paul Shirley wrote a book called "Can I Keep My Jersey" and a large part of it is what it is like to be a guy like Zeke trying to make it in the NBA and the leagues guys are willing to play in. One must be careful of the league they play in overseas. Some of the owners are real crooks. Need a good agent to steer the player in the right direction. Hilltopper
Zeke has taken his training to a new level. If he is going to make it in the NBA he needed to bulk up and get stronger. So far so good.

Dave in Green
Captain is right about Zeke having to outperform Iverson, a big, tough center who the Celtics picked in the second round of last year's draft. The Celtics still like Iverson, who gained some good experience playing in Turkey. In the meantime, Zeke is currently keeping in shape for potential NBA opportunities by playing in the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Pro-Am Summer League, where he had a double-double yesterday with 15 points and 14 rebounds
