Zips vs Penn State

The coaches need to figure out why that always seems to happen.

It happens to every team in every game.... all teams go through droughts. (Penn St only scored 3 points in the first four mins of the game).

I understand your point though and it does seem that the Zips go through longer than normal periods.

I know moral victories don't count BUT, this was a nice road trip and a good start to the season. I was wrong to think that this team would struggle to be .500.

In the second half we got away from what we were doing well in the first half, driving to the basket, taking threes when we were open and squared up and feeding the ball to Pat. We also missed some easy shots. Reggie had an alley oop and missed the shot, Evans missed an easy layup.

The lack of assists does not bother me if we are getting layups off the dribble. When Pat gets the ball and scores there is no assist but no big deal. I really like how we are keeping the lane open.

Penn State played much better the 2nd half and deserved the victory.

How about our foul shooting. Simply amazing!!

No one wants to hear about Zips free throw shooting after a loss, but here it is anyway. The Zips were 16-17 (94.1%) from the free throw line tonight. Through 5 games, if you subtract Tree's 2-6 in the only game he played, the Zips are shooting 79% from the free throw line -- way above the NCAA average. One of last season's major problem areas appears to be corrected, and now there are new areas to be addressed. But let's be honest. Everything from now on needs to be addressed within the context of how we would have thought the season would have gone if we'd known before the season started that Tree would be lost to the team.

the loss of tree forces pat to play almost the whole game.we need to get more out of big dog in the next few weeks.

I agree with big zip that big dog has to give quality pt to fill in for pat. without tree we just have no size

coming off the bench. really playing without two big men. I was surprised we won 2 out 4 games.

you can't replace one of the best players in the mac. with a few guys who never played last year.

Though it would have been nice to see a victory here, I'm pleased with where this Zips team is at right now. Compared to the team last year, we are vastly improved and we actually look like a team.

The next couple of weeks before MAC play should be interesting to watch. Enjoy the ride!

Tough four game road trip. Not unusual for a team to run out of gas in the second half of the last game of a long trip. All in all, going 2-2 against power conferences on the road is a good road trip.

Yup agreed. 4 game roadie in 6 days... Wish we could have hung on but it happens. Nothing to be alarmed about, PSU isn't a B1G bottom-feeder this year. Newbill is a stud.

Didn't get to see/listen but this is disappointing for several reasons. First, I do not care for PSU's staff (PR torney incident couple years ago) and letting such a good first half go down the drain. I don't like excuses but in another thread it was mentioned that PSU had superior travel arragements than UA. If we wore down, that could be a reason. That is why budgeting more for travel like the Zips just experienced is so important. I guarantee that PSU chartered down and chartered back to State College immediately after their last game. I can only imagine the travel arrangements the Zips endured; anyone have some details?

Bottom line, let a good win slip through our fingers; but hats off to the staff and players for a good showing considering the emotional roller coaster they've experienced recently. Time to rejuvenate, regroup and limit Big Dog's turkey consumption so he can get himself into playing condition in the next two weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Difference to me is that the PSU used time outs to at least try to swing the momentum. Dambrot watched a big lead turn into nothing and never called a time out. It was obvious that PSU came out strong and we were struggling. This is Dambrot's MO and I don't think it ever works. Burn a time out and stop the bleeding.
