2Ball Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Per footballscoop.com recruiting coordinator and inside receivers coach John Pont will not return. Quote
Balsy Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Is this the type of "change" people were calling for? I don't know anything about the dynamics of the coaching staff... Quote
Hilltopper Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Pont is married to Bowdens daughter. Quote
LZIp Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 I'm not sure it can hurt. Not pleased with recruiting or WR play. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Pont played in a foursome with Hilltopper during one of the recent football golf outings. But it wasn't until the 4th or 5th hole until Hilltopper knew who he was Pont was a very accessible guy from a famous coaching family. It's hard to say whether this was his decision or TB's. 1 Quote

Second, their athletic budget would need to double, at minimum. Quote

Also, isn't one of their biggest donors also their President? Quote

I heard YSU is taking Akron's spot in the MAC when we join the ACC.(It's been a while since I trotted that one out.) 2 Quote

Hugo42 Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks captain just looking to get my 2nd coaching job Cleveland heights was fun but home is where the heart is. Quote
Lee Adams Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 I'm not sure it can hurt. Not pleased with recruiting or WR play.Doubt if a position coach at Akron has a whole lot to do with recruiting receivers. But,the receivers except for D'Orazio haven't shown much ability in the last three seasons. Doubt that they can get some 'high profile' wide receivers coach in here who is by himself going to attract WR talent. Quote

He was the recruiting coordinator as well as inside WRs coach. Quote
Big Zip Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 And D'Orazio was recruited by believe it or not....JD Brookhart. He was in the 2010 recruiting class and was recruited by JD but iCoach was able to keep him when he got the job. He sat out 2010 and started school January 2011. Quote

footballzip Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Hope so, YSU was a long time rival of Akron's. Almost as much as Cant. It would be nice to renew the rivalry. Akron and YSU played for the Rubber Tire/Steel City trophy. Not sure who won it last. If UMASS leaves, why not add YSU. Quote
