GJGood
I don't like that one. No problem with getting matched with Boise State, although I think it is a bad draw for us. I just don't want to play a team on their home field or basically in their home city.

UA1987
Akron would probably be a 14 point dog at Boise, but I think this would be an interesting invite. They have a true freshman QB and a strong running game, which plays into our strength. It would be a tough go and I'm sure Bowden (likes offshore fishing) and the bunch would prefer a warm climate game. If you told me at the beginning of the season that we would play Boise in a bowl game, I would jump for joy. I love talking about what bowl we think the Zips will get. if this happens and anyone is in the south Florida area, I'll be watching the game here with my Zips jersey on. Jrship35
100% awesome on any bowl game and the season ... But I really (and certainly would think), that if we had any kind of choice on which bowl ..... There is no way in hell that we are going to choose to go play in Boise Idaho ...... It totally defies logic from every angle from a recruiting, geographical, financial etc. Unless I am missing something ? If we have a choice ...... What possible advantage would we have going to Idaho vs any bowl game in Florida ?And if we were told that the choice would be up to the team ...... I'm pretty sure that the guys aren't picking Idaho ? Edited December 4, 2015 by Jrship35

zipsoutsider
Doesn't the MAC champion usually go to the Potato Bowl? The advantage I can see is a chance to play another conference champion team?

GJGood
Boise State did not make it to their conference championship game. That would be Air Force and San Diego State. I actually wouldn't mid seeing the Zips play Air Force. I don't like the matchup with SDSU as much though and especially not if it was in San Diego.I just have never thought it was right to have true home teams in bowl games. Plus, for those teams how excited can they really be for the bowl if they aren't going anywhere different for it? I don't think it rewards their players enough for a successful season. johnnyzip84
In the last few weeks of the season, the emphasis was on Akron getting bowl eligible for obvious reasons. Initially, there was also a lingering thought that having several conferences struggle to reach their quotas for supplying teams for various bowl tie-ins was a good thing for a bowl-marginal squad like the Zips. Up to a certain point, this could have played in UA’s favor. But once it became apparent that there would not be a total of 80 bowl eligible teams throughout FBS/1-A, this quickly became too much of a good thing – which is always a bad thing. Once the pool opened up to 5-7 teams from P5 conferences, any leverage the Zips had (like impressive previous attendance figures in Detroit), which was probably minimal anyway, soon evaporated. The Zips will play where Jon Steinbrecher and the MAC tell them to play and, you know what, I’m completely OK with that. Does a team that was a perfect 7-0 against losing teams and an equally imperfect 0-5 against winning teams really have business dictating where, when and who they should face in a bowl game? Of course not.Don’t get me wrong. This doesn’t diminish my appreciation for the efforts the staff and team put forth this year to get things moving in the right direction. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.Wherever the Zips play, they have a supreme opportunity to make a statement. The first 8 win season in FBS/1-A history and the first win over an FBS/1-A team with a winning record since Toledo in 2013 (Pitt was 6-7 last year) should provide exceptional motivation for the team. Even though it’ll most likely be from in front of a TV, I’m really excited to watch them take their best shot. Bowl games can often be more unpredictable that regular season games. A healthy, talented defense, combined with an offense lead by a QB whose confidence is growing day by day, should make the Zips a dangerous bowl opponent.Go Zips!!!!! :gun: :gun: Edited December 4, 2015 by johnnyzip84
Buckzip
I don't care what bowl Akron plays in. I care more about who they play against.I want an Akron win. Sure a bowl game is great, but getting blown out will suck.I want to play in a game where we can win.Winning a bowl game will do much more for recruiting than just being in a bowl game will. Dr Z
Sure a bowl game is great, but getting blown out will suck.Give me the best opponent. I'll take Oklahoma again. This time we can play them with our starting QB. I'll even take Ohio State (or any other B10 team), just don't give us BG. Zipgrad01
Why would you want to get embarrassed?Losers mentality. People don't think much of the program anyway, so would getting blown out by a name opponent really hurt the program? No. However, the one thing you do get is the chance to make a statement win. Sign me up for that all day.
