LoyalZIP
They're 1-1 in MAC play with a beat down at home against EMU and a road win at BG. They're as dangerous of a team as you'll find in the MAC, but they don't play defense. I mean, EMU put up 99. That's insane.Just about everyone on their roster can shoot the three. Reggie put up 31 against them last year but I'm sure they learned from it and will be in his jock all night. Keep their guards under control and secure the perimeter. Go Zips! phil
The Zips play at Central Michigan at 7 tomorrow and it is broadcast on ESPN 3. Central is 8-7 and 1-1 in the MAC losing at home to Eastern Michigan by 19 and winning at Bowling Green. This game will be a battle of the 3 point shooters since Akron is ranked 12th in the nation in 3 point attempts and Central is ranked 14th in the nation on 3 point attempts. We shoot the 3 ball better than Central being ranked 56th in the Country but Central is not to shabby being ranked 88th in the country. Akron is ranked No. 1 in the country on 3 ball defense so this will be a good test on how good our defense is against guys who can shoot the 3 ball well.Jake Kretzer is having a great year and is ranked 23rd in the country shooting the 3 ball. Looking forward to competitive game on the road. If it is close, I hope we can execute well like we did in Buffalo at the end of the game. Go Zips!
RowdyZip
Two road games over struggling MAC preseason favorites. Regardless, go 2-0 this week and it may open the eyes of some AP voters (Zips again got just one 25th place vote in the 1/11 polls). Zips have performed pretty well in McGuirk over the years (Savage Hall on Friday is a different story...).I still worry the Chipps could "find it" against a team like Akron that carries a target on its back, but I think the Zips handle this one and go into Friday at Toledo on an 11 game streak. zippy5
Win these two and we set ourselves up for the possibility of a very long win streak

The Hip Zip
Akron opened up at as a -3 road chalk with a little early CMU money taking it down to -2' currently. I would like to share Rowdy's optimistic outlook but I just can't. We are just not where we need to be and CMU will be well hyped for this one. If I were a betting man I would find the points attractive.Hope like Hell that I'm wrong but....CMU 75Good Guys
ace
CMU is soft inside, but they can shoot like crazy. Not the most efficient but everyone on the court for them can shoot which makes it tougher to guard. Pat and big dog need to have their way down low. Need good closeouts on shooters. Obviously chris fowler is solid but braylon rayson has really come on for them this year. Little guy, but super quick and a good scorer. I.e. the type of player we have trouble against. Many teams have been able to simply outscore the chips. I would prefer not to run and gun with them, but am fairly confident about this one either way. ZachTheZip
We have the best 3-point defense in the country, going against a team that relies almost entirely on 3-point shots. A team that hasn't beaten a single team with a top 200 RPI. We should be favored by around 6 points, not two or three.
Captain Kangaroo
We have the best 3-point defense in the country, going against a team that relies almost entirely on 3-point shots. I guess will find out tonight if that stat is valid, or simply a reflection of the low talent competition we've played thus far.
RowdyZip
Side note regarding those watching the polls: Arkansas Little Rock is now 14-1, with the sole loss being to Texas Tech by a dozen. They have some decent wins (ECU, DePaul, San Diego State), and even with the gaudy record can't sniff a vote in the polls. So, it could be worse. This has been your "glass half-full" post of the day. skip-zip
Amazing. We've earned that 3-point shooting percentage defense number over 15 games, and someone wants to validate it by the results of ONE game?Check it again 5-10 games from now, and let me know. kreed5120
The Zips are going to need to do a better job of boxing out and crashing the boards. CMU will convert those 2nd chance shots into open 3 looks and unlike WMU, they are good enough to capitalize.

phil
Jimmond made 2 nice moves to the basket and missed 2 layups. He will get better with more experience. We need his explosiveness.
ZachTheZip
I get the feeling that we'll eventually pull ahead and away. This team is full of slow starters.

phil
Great picture, great commentators, great game. Kwan is playing well and has made some nice penetration drives and really nice passes. Despite the defensive lapse, he is contributing without taking the 3 point shot. After last week, I thought we would have more of an effort on the offensive boards. Does not look like anybody is interested in offensive rebounds. Maybe they are more concerned with the transition defense. After Antino makes 2 consecutive shots, Keith pulls him out?The last offensive foul at the end of the half was bogus. KD was giving it to the refs.

phil
Instead of Josh Williams, KD has Reggie playing the 2 guard and it is working well. Reggie looks good playing this position. That last foul was cheap. Same ref who called the offensive foul against Josh.
