His 3's have been good shots; no contested fade-away 3-pointers with 20-seconds left on the shot clock. I credit KD sitting his butt on the bench when he was refusing to play down low. Hilltopper
I've been following this program for over 40 years. We should thank our lucky stars the we have KD as our head coach. Akron was a cesspool of college basketball for 20+ years before he came on the scene. Even the little bit of success we had in the Huggins era was an anomaly that defied the true sadness of D-1 basketball that we experienced. Anybody who thinks we should fire him needs their head examined.

I'm not 40 years in but I am in year 22 since I became a Zips follower so I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the possibility of tweaking the assistant coaching personnel or assignments. Should the pot be stirred at all? I liked what someone said earlier about bringing in an outsider for a fresh perspective but I really don't want to do too much to disturb the stability of the program either. RowdyZip
I'd rather stagnant and at the top of the league than replace the best coaching staff in the conference just because we haven't taken that "next step." The odds are infinitely greater that Akron would return to the dregs of D1 with a new staff than it taking that "next step." Food for thought: In the 11 seasons pre-Dambrot and regime, the Zips had one sub-200 rpi season. 199 one season in the mid 90s. Tough way to lose, but we have the best staff in the league and one that chooses to stick around.

Okay, which coach would YOU replace? Actually since most fans have no idea of what any of the coaches do please give us some insight to who YOU think is the weak link. In my eyes (and I am at every practice), all the coaches do outstanding work. They all go above and beyond; there are no slackers. Any one of them could find a job at a higher level program right now. A few years back an assistant left for Ohio State while another departed for Wisconsin. Personally I would rather KEEP all of the assistants. Akron is blessed with excellent coaching talent. But, who am I? I have opinions and they are not for public scrutiny. Coach STAYS. He earned it. I am not saying I would want anyone let go. I am only asking if there would be any value to someone coming in from outside the program to add a different perspective. It is certainly not about work ethic. I honestly don't know what rules or constraints there are on coaching staffs. If someone comes in does someone automatically have to go? RooYahoo
I was out of town and unable to watch the Buffalo game. I don't think he was out-coached by a rookie Buffalo head coach, but just the mistakes KD made. I do have to laugh, I saw in an interview that he referred to Big Dog as LeBron James. I was thinking more LeBROWN DERBY but ok... Let's see how Coach D does against Ohio State tonight.

I saw some announcers doing it, I think I saw it in an article, and I've seen people here do it. I don't have the exact quote, but I'm fairly certain I can paraphrase in the proper context. He said that he was 'going to pretend like he still has Lebron James sand run everything through him'. In other words, he wasn't saying Big Dog is the chosen one. He was just saying that he wanted to run the offense through him, something he once did when he had Lebron. KD was even asked later in the interview if he was comparing BigDog to LeBron and he said, no, if anything BigDog is more like a Shaq then a LeBron. clarkwgriswold
KD's comments were essentially that he likes to run the offense through Big Dog, not unlike he did through LBJ. I was an analogy to one aspect of the offense, not a comparison of the players. Also, one thing this forum lacks is the a setting to put obnoxious posters on ignore. Blue & Gold
Right. KD was saying he enjoys having the luxury of a player like Big Dog who, when double-teamed is a good passer & does a good job of finding the open man.

bUAkronG
Look; if anything, I consider the fact that we are unhappy after a 26 win season to be a testament to the amount of progress this program has made since Keith took over. I look at the post season rundown from K92's post in the Buckeye thread and it makes me realize how valuable Keith has been. Before he got here in 04, we had been to the post season 3 times. Since then, we've played in 12 NIT or NCAA games. I don't include the CIT game because that didn't exist until recently. Ask any other MAC team to trade their last 10 seasons with ours and see if they say no. You think because OU went to the sweet 16 a couple years ago that they're content with the success of their program? You can't win any post season games unless you make them. And given the MAC as a whole, we've seen how tough it can be to get there. I have faith that KD will get us over that hump sooner rather than later.
clarkwgriswold
Anyone who hasn't suffered through seasons of Coleman Crawford and Dan Hipsher doesn't get a vote on Dambrot. I am shocked at the lack of perspective of some of the posters and their inability to fathom the fact that a change has two probable outcomes- a young coach who does well and leaves you in two years putting you back at ground zero or a mediocre one that stays too long (see Rob Senderoff).
GoZips
Jamie Dixon is leaving PITT for TCU (his alma mater). Wonder if Coach Dambrot is a candidate for the PITT job. He is a good fit.

kreed5120
Yeah, I don't see it. Dambrot will be 58 by the start of next season and has already turned down big money offers from Duquesne twice. A school where he has family ties. He seems happy where he is and I see him retiring with Akron.
