And honestly, I was just trying to illustrate the massive difference in size and noise between Madison WI and Huntington WV, after someone commented that you could actually hear the Akron fans this week.

For the record, you're the only one that compared the crowd noise to the Wisconsin game.

I only mentioned that is was great to hear the Akron crowd loud and clear in Huntington. I will stand by that comment.

My only worry is that we need the bigger backs for short yardage situations.

They have plenty of big guys on the team that could get short yardage, they just haven't tried them yet.. For one, Christian Allen is actually listed as a fullback on the roster. Then there is Newman Williams, Brennan Williams, and Freshman Davonte Jest to name a few.

Those guys can lumber to the line, but we need someone that finds the crease and hits it hard. That's Warren Ball. Hope he's healthy soon.

It will be interesting to see if/how Chapman is used in the red zone again this week.

The little guys did a nice job gaining positive yardage Saturday. We'll see, if Ball remains out, if they can do it back-to-back.

Our best bet on 4th and 1 might be the play-action quick slant to Natson.:D

Without continuing any discussion about the Marshall fans "loyalty", or lack of, please note that the same thing happened in the App. State game against Miami in the 3rd quarter.

I caught this line from the game article.

Miami eventually rallied with two quick touchdowns and increased its lead to 38-10, which led to many of those 34,658 people not wearing green and orange to start heading for the exits.

ABJ game story (staff report )

http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/university-of-akron-football-composed-zips-rally-to-dominate-marshall-65-38-1.712506

"UA quarterback Thomas Woodson led the onslaught, completing 21-of-32 passes for 379 yards and four touchdowns and no interceptions."

That equates to a Quarterback Rating of 206.36!!!

Akron reeled off 34 points in the second quarter in a 65-38 win over Marshall in front of 24,258 silent fans - The Herald Dispatch

“It’s obvious we didn’t play well and you’ve got to give Akron credit,” Marshall head coach Doc Holliday said. “I thought (Akron head coach) Terry (Bowden) and that staff did a great job of coming in here and having that team ready to play.” The game featured a combined 1,084 yards between the teams. Marshall outgained Akron, 560-524, but also topped the Zips in penalty yards. The Thundering Herd was called for 17 penalties that cost it 180 yards. Akron was flagged 13 times for 136 yards. In the end, Marshall’s 17 penalties, four turnovers and a punt block for a touchdown were too much to overcome.

Over 300 yards in penalties means one of two things:  1.  Both teams are horribly disciplined (which, is actually quite possible).  2. Ticky-Tacky flags being thrown and not letting the game play out.

As for the fans leaving in the 3rd quarter...with College games lasting almost 4 hours it's no surprise.  No-one in their right mind is going to sit for 2.5-hours, watch the team take an near insurmountable deficit, and wait another 1-1.5 hours to leave.  Especially when it will take probably another hour to battle traffic to get home.

From the ESPN Eliminator column which discusses every team and eliminates them from the CFB playoff as the season progresses. Akron was eliminated after the loss to Wisconsin (all of the MAC has been eliminated except CMU, WMU and Toledo) but the Zips eliminated Marshall with a nice nod to Terry.

Marshall Thundering Herd

Trending: DOWN

Akron walloped the Thundering Herd 65-38 on the road Saturday. Zips coach Terry Bowden has quietly done a fantastic job of building his team into a MAC East title contender, not that that makes Marshall feel any better
