I get the MAC wanting as much exposure as possible, but the game time changes have to make it a little difficult on the member schools and cost them some of their home crowd.

Yes I'm quite sure these frequent time changes are hurting home attendance.

I'm a season ticket holder and almost got caught off guard on tonight's change. This has to affect the walk up crowd.

I was a little perplexed by GT's article (a regular occurrence).  As I count them, we regularly play: 1) Dog; 2)Kwan; 3)Noah; 4) Antino; 5) Jimond; 6)Josh; 7)TDM; 8)Poke; 9)Utomi; 10) Aaron Jackson; and 11) Hughes (when he's healthy).  GT made it sound like we're going to dig deeper, beyond 7 guys.  I get what Keith was trying to say, that those 3 or 4 five to ten minute per game guys will get more minutes, but GT's article does a poor job in explaining it.    Also, I was excited to see that Aaron Jackson is now a guard!

I like the emphasis on improving the defense.

But I also wonder, if we are going to use withre of our bench to get fresher people (and hopefully more defensive energy), are we going to sacrifice too many points?

Trust our coach and see what happens.

I think our depth improves dramatically when Hughes is ready to go more than a few minutes.  Then we just have to hope that Aaron, Poke, Daniel, and Tavian have learned enough and played enough to contribute more.

Agree completely. I will also add that more discipline on offense would help too. Kindof felt we gave away the OU game with rushed 3 point attempts vs. making them defend (even just a little).

If Keith was the one who said 7, then I think it's probably referring to Dog, Kwan, and Poke rotating at the post spots, and Ivey, Noah, Josh and Antino rotating on the perimeter?

I hope that this new plan gets us back to where we've been in the past.  The only thing that's been different is that it took us a bit longer to get the young/new guys to the point where they can contribute.  And again, I really think the key right now is a healthy Hughes.  He helps our post depth tremendously.

GT obviously doesn't see those remaining guys as "play regularly", as you describe them.  Maybe because of their minutes?   But I think I see your point.  It made it sound like we are only playing 7 guys.

Lost in Saturday's defeat was how well Poke played when given some significant minutes.  He was 3-4 and had a nice moves to the basket.  He needs to learn to box out and rebound better.  He still gets pushed around under the basket.

Dunn Martin had 2 steals in five minutes in the first half and never sees the floor again.  He has a difficult time stopping the dribble drive penetration but that goes for every guard on the Zips team.

More importantly than using the bench, we need to stop shooting the quick 3 ball.  We shot 37 three balls, more than half of out of 66 shots.  We need to have players do more than shoot the 3 ball.  Even when Big Dog is not in the game we need to run offense that gets us some inside shots.  Utomi is a big body and strong with some inside moves.  He should do more than shoot 3 balls.  It would be nice to blow somebody out and maybe this will be the game.  Looking forward to seeing more bench play.  Go Zips!

He accumulated 5 fouls in 13 minutes of play, including an over the back 90 feet away from the basket which put Ohio at the line for 2. If I'm not mistaken he had another defensive foul away from the basket to put Ohio at the line as well. He's a big reason why Ohio spent the bulk of the 2nd half in the double bonus.

I feel he has potential, but he needs to learn to play defense without acquiring fouls at rapid rates.

When I read more minutes for Aaron Jackson and Olojakpoke, I cringed. Getting Hughes back into basketball shape while he refines his game will be vital. I'm for getting more minutes out of Utomi/TDM and fewer out of Josh Williams.

I think the reality is that if Mike Hughes had been healthy all season, we'd have seen very little of Poke, primarily only in mop up time.  He's as raw as they come, but his athleticism overcomes some of that.  Unfortunately, the athleticism and rawness combine to cause him to pick up bad fouls and rely on his jumping ability rather than box out.  All that being said, I love the kid as many of his errors come from just trying too hard.  I don't think he'll ever be much of a contributor on offense but his motor, athleticism and effort will make us very happy as we're leaving the JAR over the next three years.

As for Josh, I'd like to see less of him for now.  I'm not giving up on him, but his struggles are apparent.  From having seeing him in high school, I never thought he'd be a dynamic penetrator, but by the same token, I never thought he'd become so one dimensional and essentially a specialist.  As I've said before on here, right now he's a specialist without a specialty.  I think he'll work it out, but I want to see him work it out in practice rather than in crunch time.

As for Austin Jackson, he just has too many other contributors ahead of him and the returns in the limited time he's seen have been less than stellar.  Contrary to GT's article, he's not a guard, and with Kwan, Ivey, Utomi and Poke, his chances to impress will be limited.  With any luck, he'll focus on being a defensive madman and a spark when he gets in.

And Hughs picked up 2 fouls in 2 minutes of play!  These refs were calling it close.  The only bad foul is when he reached in as he came off a screen.  Zeke used to pick up these fouls all the time.  When our guards keep getting beat off the dribble and he has to protect the rim he will pick up an occasional foul.  I am hoping to see more of him tonight.

An over the back 90 feet away from the hoop that results in free throws at the other end is a bad foul. He has 29 fouls on the season in 121 minutes of play with a large chunk of them being away from the basket. That's a foul roughly every 4 minutes. Hughes struggled with fouling early on, but he hasn't committed more than 2 fouls in any game since Air Force. In fact the last game he committed 2 fouls going into the Ohio game was when the Zips played Coppin State.

He hadn't played in about 10 games.
