Comparing LSU to Akron is like comparing Noah to Antino?

I don't know if they are a "better" school but they are a FAMOUS school. Which matters on job interviews: (and obviously this has nothing to do with hoops)

The LSU Tigers football program, also known as the Fighting Tigers, represents Louisiana State University in the sport of American football. The Tigers compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). LSU ended the 2015 season with 770 victories, the 12th most in NCAA Division I FBS history, and the 4th most of any SEC team, behind Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. The Tigers also have the 11th highest winning percentage among teams with at least 1,000 games played.

LSU has won three National Championships in 1958, 2003 and 2007. LSU won the BCS National Championship in 2004 (2003 season) with a 21–14 win over Oklahoma in the Nokia Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, and the 2008 BCS National Championship Game (2007 season) versus the Ohio State Buckeyes with a 38–24 score, thus becoming the first team since the advent of the BCS to win multiple BCS national titles.

LSU has been featured in a game with ESPN College GameDay on location a total of 25 times, and the show has aired from Baton Rouge a total of 13 times. The Tigers have now made at least one appearance on the show every season since 2003. In recent years, LSU has had a high number of players drafted into the National Football League (NFL). As of the beginning of the 2016 NFL season, there were 42 former LSU players on active rosters in the NFL, the most of any college program.[3]

If we are going to have this ridiculous conversation can someone at least state what Antino's actual degree is in? Given the time committments required to be a D1 basketball player I highly doubt he is an engineer or a law student, both of which people are trying to use in this dick measuring contest.

OK, I've been lured in.  It's a slow night.  38 LSU players have played in the NBA or ABA, including Shaq, Pete Maravich,  Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, John Chaney and Bob Petit.  Akron's had 4 and none since 1976 when Nathanile Barnett played 12 games for the Indiana Pacers in the ABA.  As a 20 year old basketball player, I suspect Antino is more concerned with a school's basketball tradition and where the school may take him in basketball than he is with the academic reputation behind his  Master's Degree.  Yes, I know they are bottom dwellers in the SEC right now, but I'd bet the Shejiang LIons, Maccabi Tel Aviv BC or the Frankfurt Skyliners are more likely to recognize LSU on a basketball resume.

How did Boals not recruit him to OSU?

I don't follow LSU hoops, but I see that they only had two seniors on the roster last year, and those two combined to average less than 3 points per game. Are they experiencing similar fallout as Akron? If not, I'm not sure it's beneficial for him to go to that situation despite LSU's mostly ancient basketball history (and one season with Ben Simmons where they couldn't even make the tournament). If he goes to LSU and only plays 10-15 minutes a game as a backup, guess what, his pro aspirations in Europe will largely be based off of what he did for three years ...at Akron.

He would be taking a huge chance, especially since now he is all but guaranteed to play 30-plus minutes (and I would be its closer to 35) a game next year in Akron.

With all that said, I think he is gone.

Europe will see LSU on his resume and see him make a few plays and they will sign him.  He is 5'8" on a good day and that will be more of a factor than his Akron years v. LSU years.  Going would give him an opportunity to prove that his height does not matter.  If you play at a Power 5, you will get a contract overseas at some level.

I saw his statement and I don't understand what the "next chapter" in his career means? He will still be in college.  And from what I understand, he will not be a grad transfer.  Interesting if what I hear is true.

Disagree on the first point. Pretty much anybody who was worth anything at Akron has gotten an opportunity in Europe, even on the higer/highest level. Antino is in that class and with him, it's not like Akron vs. LSU is going to make or break his NBA dreams ... he's not getting those regardless of school.

I'm interested more in hearing what you are hearing. Everything that has come out the last couple of days has been that he is indeed a grad transfer. If not, and he still leaves, chalk that up to there is nothing Groce could've done to sway him, because it makes less than 0 sense for him to sit out a year.

Antino is not 5'8" "on a good day". He is a legit 5'11" or 6'. Every player with talent has a chance to play overseas regardless of what school they attended.

Not how it is AT ALL... Yes, you can go over there like a Blake Justice and play for meals, or go over to play for money.  A big difference.  HM guys play for money just for having that HM on their resume.  Not the case for MM guys.

Not going to get in a "height war" here but Im 6' and I am a half a head taller.  Point is, people forget that the only reason to take a smaller guy over here is because he is a High Level talent.  When people from overseas look at guys, they have film and paper resume.  LSU goes a long way, more than Akron.  Hell, it does here in the USA.  Guys from overseas don't have the benefit of seeing these guys live.  So they trust the "playing against better talent" argument.  You can argue it, but it is what it is.

So we are judging level of players based on pregame layup lines?

Yep.  I stood next to Antino at the Zips pre-season event and he was clearly taller then me and I'm about 5'10".

Wow.  Very divergent opinions here.  I expect a basketball player to have his height exaggerated a bit.  And since he's listed at 5'-11", I'll guess that he has to be shorter than that.  And especially since he's an undersized guard, I wouldn't be surprised if he's exaggerated by an inch or more.

Then someone is missing something at the U of A.  If he's listed at, or under his actual height.

Simple personal observation from standing next to him in the lobby at the JAR.

I would also estimate him at approximately 275 pounds.

You talkin bout THE Charlie Spikes?  The one of mid-70's-ish Cleveland Indians fame?

Now I know you're probably an old man like me.

Lets just throw everything into this thread. :-) Charlie Spikes was used as a reference in Cheers as the player Sam Malone almost ended his career against. :).
