zippy5 Posted February 15, 2021 Report Posted February 15, 2021 The vaunted West Florida Argonuats lost to whatever "Carson-Newman" is the year they won the title. I'll take the team with 75-85 scholarship players over the one with 36 scholarship players Quote

Why didn't they stay in D-1? Have they transferred back up to a better school? We've already wasted too much time on this ? 1 Quote

Can't speak for West Florida, but most PSAC teams, which is a very good D2 conference, only offer in the 20s. Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 I hear our 3rd string kick holder in going to enter the portal tomorrow. Expected to “move up” to either Otterbein of Maine or North Central Pennsylvania Tech. Both are Division 4 powerhouses. Stay tuned. 2 Quote

But, more importantly, does either schools stadium have cleaner bathrooms than ours? Quote

Sergeant Zip Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 There are currently 126 quarterbacks in the 2021 transfer portal. Of the 299 Power Five players who have committed to a new school, 60% took a step down in level, their next destination a Group of Five or FCS school. One-third of Group of Five transfers stepped up to the Power 5. 1 Quote
zipsoutsider Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 Not surprised by those numbers. A lot of xoaches are holding off signing portal kids until after spring football when they have a better handle on what they need. Lyons seemed to do a decent job of long snapping. It's an important role to fill. Maybe they borught in a bigger, more athletic kid. Time will tell. Quote

clarkwgriswold Posted February 28, 2021 Report Posted February 28, 2021 The inactivity in the portal could be any number of things. It could be a staff that wants to stick with their own recruits rather than risk taking on another team's problem. It could be that the staff is just bad at recruiting the portal. It could be that kids in the portal are looking for a better situation and don't see a team with 1 win on two seasons are a better situation. Certainly, one win in two years doesn't make it an easy sell. In any event, this program needs players that can contribute. There are kids in the portal that meet that description. The staff needs to figure out a pitch that overcomes the initial perception of a program in disarray and make an effective pitch around playing time and being a part of building something special. 1 Quote

LZIp Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 There are so many players in the portal right now and so little scholarships available. I'm sure the staff is doing their due diligence and will use the majority of the 4-5 or whatever they may have on players they think can help the team out immediately. We are in the middle of a semester so there is really no a reason to rush it. Not like getting a commit now means a player will be on campus immediately and be able to participate in spring ball. At this point the earliest would be summer workouts/camp. Not to mention, just because we don't hear something doesn't mean nothing is happening. Our coverage blows. 2 Quote
