clarkwgriswold
The MAC Tournament bracket has been released. While there are still some uncertain seedings, the MAC has set UA/BG as the #3/#6 matchup. https://getsomemaction.com/tournaments/?id=145 The Zips beat BG convincingly (69-57) at BG on January 19th. BG returned the favor at the JAR on February 26th, beating the Zips 83-71. BG had an awful mid-season swoon, dropping 6 straight, but has recently played well winning four straight before dropping an OT Game to Miami on Tuesday. Hopefully, with the Miami game not being played, the Zips can use the 9 day break to get their legs back under them for BG.
MDZip
Just to see this makes me kind of happy - like the MAC believes the tournament will be played. Don't much care who wins between Kent/Buffalo but happy one of them will be in the opposite bracket with Ohio and Toledo. Of course if the game isn't played that really upsets the bracket. Of course BG could certainly pull off the upset and make everything else irrelevant but even with poor play recently I still like the Zips chances. Let the Ohio Invitational tournament begin. 🙂 If there in any justice/karma from last year the Zips win this thing! clarkwgriswold
The number one scorer in the MAC, LCJ, at 21.6 ppg vs. the number two scorer, Turner, at 19.9 ppg. The number two rebounder, Freeman (I hear he's a walk on) at 9 rpg vs. the number four rebounder, Plowden, at 8.1 rpg. BG is averaging 79 ppg while the Zips are averaging 78.6 ppg. I am hoping we see the BG of the past that struggles in the tournament. I fear that they are just now becoming the team the coaches anticipated when they chose them to win the MAC in the preseason. LoyalZIP
This is a weird tournament in so many ways. The #3 seed hasn't won in 2+ weeks, half of the teams (assuming they all make it to Cleveland) will have had 8 straight days without games by the time Thursday rolls around, I still have not heard what player(s) Akron and whoever else is affected will be out, and everyone played a weird amount of games. Hopefully it makes for a fun tournament regardless of who wins (besides Kent of course) as opposed to Toledo just steamrolling everyone. And Toledo plays Ball State tonight and turns around and plays them Thursday at Noon. Maybe Buffalo would have an advantage playing Miami? But Miami, as the 12th seed, beat them in first round last year. Groce is 2-2 in the MAC tournament for the Zips. The first year he put the team together on a fly, and I thought they played well in the tourney in 2018 (they beat WMU on the road in a crazy game) but couldn't hold on to it it vs. EMU. In 2019, they easily beat Miami in first round then unfortunately because of some late season losses ran into the unstoppable Buffalo in Cleveland. I like the Zips odds on the neutral court where the Zips got to play earlier this season.
clarkwgriswold
Last year going into the tournament, I felt confident. This year, I feel hopeful. I think that's telling as to the difference in the two seasons.
clarkwgriswold
The kid that's really come in to his own for BG and made a difference since their slump is Metheny. He has given them a strong third option to go along with Turner and Plowden. As the season has progressed he's really grown up. Smart player, solid ball handler, good shooter, seems to always play hard. West Virginia player of the year last year.

clarkwgriswold
Awful. Puts sports in perspective. In today's day and age when these types of hazing incidents have been given such attention I am amazed they continue. Here's hoping we get to a day when getting unreasonably inebriated is no longer a right of passage for some.

clarkwgriswold
An all-time low level of excitement going into the tournament. I really think the inability to bond with these kids by being at the JAR has impacted our fandom this season.

Nothing much on Toledo's board. Kittens are worried about something or other. BG...unhappy with the world. Ball State they hate Whitford. PCCC delusional. Buffalo misses Oates. All disconnected. What coach can get his seniors motivated? I doubt many of them will be coming back to their respective schools with the world opening up and lots of opportunities in Europe. Do you want to stay another year in Bowling Green or Toledo or Akron when you could be in France or Sweden making $ and seeing the world. Jimond Ivey is in Luxembourg! Utomi is in Finland! 1981 grad
I think there would be more excitement if we did not drop our last 3 games and 3 of our starting 5 are in a shooting funk and have been in a defensive funk the entire season. This team can be really good when Trimble, Ali, and LCJ are making their 3 ball. But we struggle when the 3 pointers are not going into the basket. If we win on Thursday and get out of our offensive woes I think this board will pick up.

Zips are limping in. Unfortunately, in Groce's 4 years he hasn't had the true opportunity to make a tournament run. (2 because of COVID and 2 because he didn't have the players). AkronAlumnus
Groce is known for having mediocre regular seasons but excelling in the MAC tournament. Here's hoping history repeats itself.
Let'sGoZips94
LCJ deserves to Dance more so than possibly any player in Akron history. He was robbed last year of his One (probably several) Shining Moment. With this week off, I hope several things have been worked on... - Defensive Effort - Rebounding Effort - Off-The-Ball Movement Beat BUGS. One game at a time. P.S. Thoughts and prayers are with the family of that BG student. My wife is a BUGS grad, and she said that fraternity was suspended when she was at school for a similar incident. They had just been allowed to come back recently, then this happens. Ridiculous. I don't think Fraternities/Sororities should be cancelled, but our youth is in trouble with the lack of common sense, accountability, and discipline being demonstrated by them in society. One of my favorite songs has a lyric "We talk about leaving a better planet for our kids, how about leaving better kids for our planet." Words of wisdom. NWAkron
Some good stuff at then end about the recruits. That 6'5 guard from Lakota is something we haven't had on a Zips roster since I can remember.
