Does anyone else feel like Tom Herman probably falls in the good OC but not a HC after many chances?

I don't know, he had two great seasons at Houston with an undefeated record at home during his time there. I think he was perfect for that gig, but then got greedy and wanted to go the University of Texas, which has been a kiss of death for coaches since Mack Brown left.

And he really didn't do bad at Texas, just didn't live up to their top 5 program wannabe standard.

Take this for what it’s worth…

Really, Deion Sanders? Don't get me wrong he has a good year this year at the FCS level, but his team was significantly more talented than anyone he faced. It's still to be seen how good of a coach he'll be when he's facing teams that are equally or more talented.

Isn't this the case with OSUcks, Bama, etc.? The name of the game is recruiting. At that level (Cincy entering the Big 12), good coaches bring in the most talent possible, establish the culture, then stay out of their talents' way. Deion has proven to 1) recruit damn well and 2) be able to establish a strong culture.

Personally, I'd love to see Cincy hire Brian Hartline simply to send OSUcks fans into a panic attack of epic proportions.

Yes, recruiting is a huge part of coaching at the collegiate level. I just don't see him being able to out recruit the other Big 12 schools as badly as he's able to out recruit the HBCUs that he's currently facing. He's running out his 3* and 4* recruits against teams filled with guys Rivals didn't even bother giving stars to.

Edit: I want to be clear I'm not saying he can't be good at the FBS level. I'm just surprised he's getting P5 interest so soon. I would have expected him to receive interest from G5 schools.

At the P5 level, he'll certainly have a tougher time out-recruiting his adversaries. But at the HBCU level, he out-recruited P5s not just HBCU/G5s. Not an entire class but to land the caliber of player he has at Jackson State, he'll be able to take that anywhere and with even more to offer than just himself.

The level of difficulty it took to land Hunter depends whether or not you believe the reports that Barstool Sports paid Hunter $1.5 million in NIL to go to said HBCU.

$1.5M would barely crack the Top 10 Most Lucrative NIL Deals

... So far...

Also I do believe the report. Portnoy has F Off money, and he throws it around like it's candy at a parade. He the Hunter deal was a marketing promo for Barstool's NIL program where they sponsor college athletes from any sport. It's a similar strategy to his College Basketball Invitational at Philly to get 2 Ohio schools so they can promote their sportsbook.

That list is filled with proven stars who were on watchlists to be the best at their positions coming into the season. The only true freshman I see is Quinn Ewers and he plays the most important position on the field. Caleb Williams is going to win the Heisman. Of course proven stars will make more money.

You're right. He'll be a good coach anywhere. The culture is the hardest part. He is a two time Super Bowl champion, Hall of Famer and top 100 NFL player. If you aren't old enough to remember his playing days, he was awesome. Because of his greatness as a player he can demand more from players and they will listen and respond. My understanding is he is an old school coach and very demanding of his players in practice and behind closed doors. That means a lot.

I know a guy who played with him in Atlanta. He told me once the doors closed and the cameras weren't on, Sanders was a different guy in a good way. He said he was one of the nicest guys on the team and treated everyone well. Sanders autographed a bunch of jerseys and posters for his son's.

And the Suckeyes are going to back their way into another Playoff.

sick puke GIF

He must have just finished watching round one of the college football playoffs last year. The only thing that can solve this problem is a 12 team playoff. More trash, less vomiting.

These 9-3 teams that are beating the top 4 would be in and have a shot - count me in for that. This exclusive 3-4 team country club needs knocked off, and I'm excited for that to happen.

Does the committee leapfrog TCU with OSUcks for their precious $$$ matchup of Michigan/OSUcks?

Establish the top 4 after this weekend and all will be solved. In fact, establish a top 2.

I'd complain more, but I've realized how horrible the playoffs are and I ignore them. It's a complete joke being played on us by television networks. Much like the World Cup. It does little more than trapping the unknowing in front of a television to throw back beers while watching trash. Much like a #1 vs $16 March Madness game.
