I've often wondered which is the better route for conferences: early conference tournament and then delay to the post-season, or late conference tournament and less delay to post-season, i.e. Horizon is already done and the first four isn't until next Wednesday and opening round games Thurs/Friday. I think the way the MAC does it is more fan-friendly. However, they are competing with the big boys for TV eyes. And I’m not sure what the teams prefer either. It is a pretty quick turnaround if you win the MAC and wind up playing a Thursday tournament game. That’s an interesting question for coach. Quote

While Groce’s 2010 would have been on the outside looking in, I think the current state of the league justifies the current format. Back then, the top 8-9 teams in the league were in the top 150 or so in D1. Now, the entire bottom half is 200 or below. I wouldn’t have a problem if they brought them back, but I kind of like the idea of the regular season having more stakes. Miami going on a run this year past the likes of a flailing BG and fraudulent EMU is better for the league than everyone getting a chance no matter what. I get that but I feel like having all the teams make the tournament draws a line of importance to being a top four seed, instead of just a top 8 seed... with 12 teams teams in 9th and 10th are trying to get to 8 , teams 5 and 6 are trying to get to 4... right now it’s just get to 8 and then see what happens... although winning the regular season does at least guarantee a NIT berth if you don’t make the NCAA. He might be a bit repetitive and a doofus but he's our doofus. He has a passion for the MAC and I give him tons of credit for ditching the spray-on hair.
