I think football gets a decent share of donations outside of today. Isn't that kind of the problem though? Kaulig obviously gifts a substantial sum, but it's nowhere near enough to be competitive in the MAC. More help is clearly needed. Quote

More help is needed, but UA's run through an exhaustive list of coaches, AD's and losing programs for decades. Good luck finding anyone willing to shell out big bucks if they don't feel UA will spend that money wisely. I make my donation to football annually because I like Joe and feel he merits support. I have fun attending the games in the fall. The guy went 5-7 last year despite being hamstrung by a litany of handicaps beyond his control. He's a good coach who wants to be here. I expect 6 wins this season. Which is like 8-9 wins for a respectfully funded program. Infocision is a resource. I think it could be filled to 18-20 k on average and make money even with the University's football acumen and historical shortcomings. But it's easier to say "I wouldn't have built that stadium" and be off the hook. Goodrich has only been around a short while. He hasn't done anything stupid yet, so I have a some hope that he can at least get football pointed in the right financial direction. We'll see... 4 Quote

Let'sGoZips94 Posted Wednesday at 11:10 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 11:10 PM God bless Luke Getsy. Getsy pumps... he throws to Hixon and it is... CAUGHT! FOR A TOUCHDOWN! - Mike Tirico with Herbstreit by his side and Erin Andrews in her prime on the sideline. 2 Quote
ZippyRulz Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago One could say JoeMo makes a fiscal contribution by taking less pay to be here than what his true market value is. 2 Quote
Zippy87 Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago People will always look for return on an investment. I donate and support men's basketball because I have seen my support and the support of others lead to consistent success on the court, MAC Championships, and NCAA Tournament berths. The sad reality for football is we haven't had a winning record in the conference in almost a decade. We've only had an overall winning record in 9 of 40 seasons, and only 1 of the last 20. The ceiling for the program is winning the MAC and playing in a smaller bowl that only matters to fans of the two teams playing and degenerate gamblers. And we are pretty far away from that ceiling. I attend a football game or two each year. I obviously hope they do well. But I can't blame fans/alumni for not giving their hard-earned money to the program instead of giving to men's basketball, men's soccer, or another winning program at UA. 1 Quote

This pretty much sums up how I feel. Honestly, you seem more invested than I am. I might catch one or two games on TV each year, and I don’t go to any in person. My past experiences at games were so bad that I’d need to be paid to sit in Infocision for three and a half to four hours again. And it’s not just about them losing. I’ve sat through plenty of awful Browns seasons over the years. It’s more that the product Akron football puts out just doesn’t feel worth it to me, and I don’t really see a clear path for it to get better. 1 Quote

Football and basketball are the sports I care about…even with all of basketball’s success, one could argue our ceiling is just winning the MAC and losing in the first round of the NCAA…especially with how the games have played out the past few years. Much less upsets than usual. Quote

I'd imagine a lot more people watch Match Madness (especially the first two days) than the Snoop Dogg Bowl, the Potato Bowl, or whatever other meaningless bowl game Akron would make. 1 Quote

I also think as the playoffs expand more and more of those bowl games will be eliminated. Two bowls were eliminated last year and the Detroit bowl was just eliminated. In full transparency 1 was added so it was a net decline of two. Many existing bowls are barely surviving. 1 Quote
zippy5 Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Tbh I don't have unlimited money. Would be nice. Football could use it more, but basketball has earned it and deserves it imo. Hopefully I can say that about football soon too 1 Quote

Your donations are investments in your university and its students, because I'm assuming you are personally invested in its success. Quote
