What happened to Ella Wigal this past season? Was she injured and is she still with the team?

I think I saw she had an injury that led to surgery, can't recall specifics though.

That's odd. Two weeks ago she tweeted that she was coming back.

Sharks are in the water everywhere looking for opportunities to make some money. One of them convinced her the grass would be more lucrative at some other location. Sad state off affairs in collegiate athletics today.

The NCAA is neutered by their own greed.

This is insanity!

How can anyone be a loyal fan- you have no idea to whom to profess loyalty?

How can you be a coach in such a situation? You recruit a player; during the preseason and the season, you are still recruiting that player. After the season, you recruit the player yet again and get a commitment that the player is going to stay- allowing you start to build a roster knowing the player will be a part of said roster. Then several weeks later, the player leaves and you have to start again to build a roster without a key element,

Insanity!

The loser, of course, will be college athletics with a declining fan base and the player who will be going to her fourth school and likely not receiving the same value in a degree with a future.

Even before NIL it was challenging for bottom feeding teams to keep their best players. Those players want the opportunity to play meaningful games in March. Once you start adding NIL into the mix, now those players can both get paid more and have a chance of competing. What real incentive is there to stay?

As for incentives to stay, I would list developing meaningful relationships with players/students/coaches that will continue beyond playing days ( difficult to do when you bounce around four schools within your limited playing career) and obtain a degree in a field you enjoy and has good employment prospects (I can just imagine what shape her credits are in). Its not like she will be making millions playing professional basketball. Compare with Freeman- who will likely make millions but has employment opportunities with real degrees to back him up.

Doesn't she already have her bachelor's degree? According to ESPN next year she will be a 3rd year senior so I'm guessing she must have done junior college before Memphis, but am no expert. In that case she could be looking to start her masters.

My comment also wasn't about 4 schools in 4 years, which is dumb. More about if you spent 2 years at a school and they're no closer to winning than when you first got there it's understandable that you might want to look elsewhere. There isn't going to be huge NIL dollars thrown around in women's hoops or other Olympic sports unless you're at the top of the game. I imagine players jumping around yearly to the highest bidder in those sports will be far less common than in men's hoops.

If you guys are going to make snarky comments, you should at least know what your talking about. Considering the amount of injuries and other issues with players, this year's team still competed every night. You know that Bud Wentz also runs a NIL program for the womens team? We have some pretty good freshmen and will pick up a couple more players from the portal. Shelbee Brown will be back and those injured players will return too. Gensler is a good coach. Eventually things will start to go our way.

Any idea if there has been any utilization of the Women’s NIL coffers here with Shelbee? If not, then why not? Seems like the exact kind of situation where it should be implemented in the program.
