If Kent basketball is as poorly funded as Sendy claims it to be, I think he has Kent basketball competing at the highest level it can reach (sustainably) in this NIL era. If he leaves, Kent likely regresses to the bottom half of the MAC. 1 Quote

It was so bad, it prompted me to go to FearTheRooCollective and buy a Groce vest. Edited March 26 by Let'sGoZips94 3 Quote
zippy5 Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 I wish ours was a little more user friendly, if you could just log in and click donate $X/month, I think we'd get some more activity 3 Quote

I would have also signed up for a monthly reoccurring donation. I'm a relatively small fish though. I imagine why they haven't taken the time to implement such a thing yet after talking about doing it for almost a year is they're more focused on attracting the larger one time gifts and corporate sponsors. Bud seems to have a lot on his plate and a finite amount of time. If the feature ever gets added, someone let me know. Quote

It's only a couple of clicks to donate as is. Contribute > Men's Basketball Contribute Now > Enter Amount & Frequency > Contribute By the way, here is the quality control on Kent's NIL website. The header... Not sure what's uglier - Sincere or the collective logo over the tagline. Edited March 26 by Let'sGoZips94 Quote
Blue & Gold Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 That was easy. I just signed up for a recurring monthly donation. 1 Quote

After reading your post I went onto the website and it now seems to be functioning. I'm not sure if the site was recently updated or if mobile just isn't user friendly. Signing up now for recurring donation. Edited March 26 by kreed5120 1 Quote

zippy5 Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 huh, when I click contribute now it opens up an Outlook message Quote
zippy5 Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 ah, I see, just for MBB. I'd like to do that monthly for the general NIL fund. I'm sure that will be up soon enough Quote

RoyalBlu Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 I would like to give Groce and the Zips credit. Reading forums around the MAC there is much discussion about the Zips NIL, and what their particular program needs to raise to compete. We'll see how it goes, but this is what happened when Marshall came into the league in football and started to dominate. At least a few MAC teams in the era - NIU, Toledo, Miami, Ohio, CMU - stepped up to various degrees to compete. The difference now, with NIL/Portal, the key to success is keeping good coaches with staffs that can recruit. Losing a head coach can be devastating. Look at Indiana State. They were the Cinderella darlings of college basketball last season. The head coach leaves for St. Louis, where that team was no better. Back at Indiana State, that first-year coach and team struggled and now the entire roster is in the portal and the new coach has to rebuild. No program. No culture. Just ashes. The top half of the MAC has some strong/solid coaches. If these administrations step up even a little bit, keep these coaches in place and add to the NIL, the league can make some noise. At least credit Groce/Zips with jump-starting that trend. 3 Quote
clarkwgriswold Posted March 26 Author Report Posted March 26 Every school in the MAC has similar resources to UA as well as wealthy alums. As such, I don't want to hear their whining. Produce a product worthy of an alum's interest and investment and make some effort and maybe they'll buy in. Why would an alum want to invest in season after season of garbage? That knocks out about half of the MAC programs. As for the rest, like PCCC, Ohio U, Toledo and Miami...if you can't figure it out that failure is on you. Spare me the Dodgers analogy and engage in some introspection. 2 Quote

Yes, we hardly have the biggest or richest alumni network in the conference. Sorry yours don't care 2 Quote

Also, as I understand it, UMass will also be able to bring quite a bit of NIL funding to bear on the MAC starting next season. 1 Quote

What I've seen posted on their forum is their collective is made up of 500+ donors and has a budget of ~500k in total, $400k of it allocated to MBB (football has a different collective, which the UMass athletic department took over. Not sure the budget for that). That included non-cash gifts as well. Like I saw one of their players was given a car, which I assume was leased. The person running their collective admitted they whiffed and overpaid a few transfers this year, which is why they took a step back. Hopefully they keep inefficiently spending their money as I have to assume they have a larger bankroll than us. Edited March 26 by kreed5120 Quote

clarkwgriswold Posted March 27 Author Report Posted March 27 So, after tonight's fine performance by PCCC, what brings in more funds? The new collective or the Kenni Burns defense fund? 1 Quote

RoyalBlu Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 As for the game ... Loyola's big man was better than Kent's bigs. Everything else about even. Kent lost by 10. MAC basketball season officially over. Quote
kreed5120 Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 (edited) The Kent board seems convinced that Sendy has coached his last game with the team and that he's already accepted the Fordham job. Kind of odd that he was just on social media promoting Kent's collective days ago when he likely already knew he wouldn't be with the team next year. The Fordham job is pretty terrible. He must really want out of Kent badly. If he thinks Akron is the Dodgers, he's in a rude awakening when he faces the AL All-Stars (Dayton) and NL All-Stars (VCU) every year.
