You are using extreme examples. There are plenty of P4 teams Akron is capable of competing well against and put a little pizzazz on the schedule. Princeton?

I can't tell what you are trying to get at here. The Ivy league is not P4 obviously, and Princeton is a fantastic opponent for us to play

I wish they would've done a weekend ticket or a multi-game discount of some kind. Would've been nice to see some creative marketing for this.

They really should've done a "lower tier" mini plan for these 6 home conference games. They have the pick 6 plan at $60 for GA, but you could easily do a 6 game nonconference plan at $40 total

What about the money?  If the football team can be whored out, so can every other program.

The basketball program actually has enough donor support to cover a healthy chunk of its bills. Without people like Bud Wentz it probably would be whored out like CMU and several other MAC basketball programs.

It's much more expensive to run an FBS program, especially given that we're still paying on that monstrosity. I know Kaulig gifts a lot for football, but you need a much larger pool of large financial backers to be competitive in football. Especially in this day and age of NIL.

Yes, and St. Mary's is very much on par with the middle to bottom half of P4 schools. If he doesn't want to face the Kentucky's of the world there is no real difference between a St. Mary's and an Ole Miss.

Ummmm, that was the point.

I think some have used it as a running gag to make fun at others over a previous disagreement on here. If that wasn't your intent, I apologize.

I agree completely. A lot of different paths they could've taken.

Good grief.....

They should play at least one P5 school. That's not too much to ask.

I think the schedule was fine. There's some good tests and quality opponents mixed in. I also think there's some truth to some teams just not being willing to schedule us.

I do think it's interesting that KD was often criticized for nonconference scheduling and it's been about the same under Groce.

I think the criticism for KD's schedules was surrounded around being in years 10, 11, 12, 13, and not taking that next leap as a program. Should the program under Groce fail to take that same desired leap, it will get loud. It's also a very different college basketball landscape now compared to KD's tenure. Complete roster overhaul doesn't exactly lend itself to wanting a P4 gauntlet. Competitive mid majors suit this squad better.

Princeton has won the Ivy League 3 years in a row. The Ivy League is ranked 10-12 in NET conference rankings. The MAC is low 20s. Sweet 16 appearance 2 years ago, NIT appearance last year, even without the automatic bid

Princeton makes the post season a lot. They also lose in the first round of whatever tournament they make a lot. I would like to see Akron play at least ONE team that has to play difficult games all year long.

Well according to John Groce, “every MAC game is tough”

I'm surprised by the number of people who are expressing interest in an all tournament ticket. I wouldn't have guessed so many would want to sit on wooden bleachers for ~5 hours to watch both the Akron game plus 2 random cupcakes playing.

At least make it an option. 🙄 Include a seat cushion as a promotion.

I beg to differ, when you have the number of P5 transfers this team has. If that is the recruit/portal level Groce is looking to compete at on a yearly basis, I believe the non-con schedule should reflect the fact the talent level is (supposedly) high enough to warrant two or three of those games.
