LZIp Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 Comfortable win over a similarly ranked team in a better conference. Good measuring stick. Hope Sharron doesn’t miss too much time. 1 Quote
Illini Zip Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 At least we weren’t shut out in the non-conference. 1 Quote
pdt1420 Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 (edited) I know we lost most/all measuring stick games in the OOC… but at what record or what win streak does this team start getting AP votes? Especially if the voters aren’t as cynical as us fans and recognize it just took time to gel. Ole Miss is #25 and we have a common opponent… they beat this USA team by 10… I bet at 23-5 we get a vote. Edited February 8 by pdt1420 1 Quote

He seemed to be moving okay and the ice came off in the second half Groce is still unhappy as to how this team finishes. He also said in the post game that this is the best shooting team he's had across the board. Edited February 8 by clarkwgriswold Quote

I grimaced when I heard Groce say that because the last 4-5 possessions we used the whole clock and did not start any offense until there was 10 seconds left and the shot selections was not very good. It was the right play at the end of the game although our margin of victory went down from 20 to 12. Quote
1981 grad Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 Really great Akron win in that this was a difficult zone and we really passes the ball well with a lot of patience and shot the ball well. Groce indicated that this might be his best shooting team. This is also probably his smartest team in the they really took care of the ball after the first couple of minutes and moved the ball around until they found the open 3. Glad to see Hardman finally hit a couple of three balls after missing 4 in a row. Seth Wilson also had a good shooting day and Tevari was just plain feeling it. This is a fun team to watch!!!! Quote

No, we’re not even close to that. Quote
zippy5 Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 I bet we get votes next week or the week after if we don't lose in between 3 Quote
kreed5120 Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 It's usually around the time that people start talking about at-large bids or getting votes in a poll that we suddenly have a head scratching loss. 3 1 Quote

No, we’re not even close to that. You think we’d have to be undefeated right now, 23-0, to “even have a chance” at being “others receiving votes”? That’s ludicrous. Quote
clarkwgriswold Posted February 8 Author Report Posted February 8 I think the voters look closely at the level of competition and our competition in the MAC is....... Quote

That’s ludicrous. Receiving a vote isn't that high of a threshold. Some voters even intentionally include an under the radar team that they don't feel gets enough attention in their 23-25 spot. If our win streak gets north of 15, we might sneak onto someones ballot. Quote

I agree not that high of a bar and it’s a first step. Also agree that another two weeks and I think we get that vote. Quote

NWAkron Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 Would, could, should. That's the past. The win streak is the past. Next game up. Quote

That’s ludicrous. I guess anything is possible, but our only shot at Quad 1 or 2 wins was the non-conference. And I watched Akron slide back a few spots on Kenpom because we only beat NIU on the road by 10 points. That’s how far the MAC has fallen. Quote

This board used to discuss at large bids but I cannot remember the last time we discussed it. Might be 10 years ago. Quote

This season is the first one that I don't recall it being talked about, however, I imagine that chatter will start if the Zips are still undefeated in MAC play at the end of February. The disastrous OOC performance made people hold off this year. Below is me responding to someone talking about at-larges during preseason. I do think people are more dismissive of it now compared to what they were 5 years ago. Quote

I cannot remember a serious discussion about Akron getting an at large in a long long time. Quote
