I went to the game today.  The Zips were competitive in he first and fourth quarters but got outscored by 17 in the second quarter.  No effort seemed to be made during that run to stop the momentum by calling a timeout.  Overall, they turned the ball over way too much, couldn't stop dribble penetration and gave up way too many easy shots.  Gentzler did way too much yelling and gesturing, including a Rick Pitino like tearing off and throwing of his sportscoat.

I may be mistaken but I was under the impression it was a four year contract?

I actually don't know the full contract details. When I said 5 years it was because that's what google showed when I searched. I'm not sure how much of the contract is actually guaranteed.

I was under the impression that he's under contract through next season.

Another season ending with 6 injured players on the bench. Some good news is that our top recruit from last year whonwas injured in the state finals in Indiana and never saw the floor for us is back practicing and should be ready to play in 26-27. We also have one of the finalists for this year's Ms Ohio Basketball signed for next. Ryan and Bud are already working on who to target in the transfer portal. Eventually our luck has to change.

If you’re into watching actual coaching and winning basketball , Youngstown State ladies are taking on Green Bay in the Horizon League championship game at noon today after winning a dogfight against Cleveland State in the semis yesterday.

I prefer not to think about how we let a good coach leave and take another local school to the conference final, while we missed the conference tournament completely.

MAC women's basketball accolades were released today. Only Shaena Brew received recognition. She made the All Freshman Team.

Miami, under former UA assistant Glenn Box in his third year at the helm, are the 2026 MAC champs. 

 

Zips were 7-24 this season. Big whiff so far by the former UA AD. Plus MJ led YSU to Horizon title game this year.

Interesting to hear. I wonder a bit if part of the reason was the way MJ's departure was handled and his previous association with her as a co-assistant under Kest. The Miami job opened up a month or so after Gensler was hired. That job was a dumpster fire as opposed to ours which was mediocre. Regardless, it shows how quick things can be turned around if you hire the right coach.

Yes, Miami seems to be committing some serious money to athletics now. They might have been bad before, but who knows what they committed to funding and how that compared to Akron.
