Zips1991 Posted Wednesday at 03:15 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:15 PM The Zips head to Bowling Green on Friday (8pm) for another shot at that elusive Q2 win. BG is currently 103 in the NET but with it being a true road game, it falls in the Q2 category. Akron is currently 56 in the NET after dropping 6 spots with the win over CMU. Quote

Being 2-2 would feel so strange after going 17-1 last year but the conference is much improved this year and we'd have two of the most difficult games behind us. 2 Quote

I feel we should have challenged ourselves more in OOC play. We only played 2 true road games if I'm counting correctly. One of those was against Purdue, which we weren't going to be competitive with. The other was against a below average Tulane, which is okay. It would have been nice to play more in the line or 3-4 to better prepare ourselves for hostile environments. Playing quality competition on the road is much different than at our or even at a neutral site. Quote
clarkwgriswold Posted Wednesday at 05:04 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:04 PM BG right now has the best defense in the MAC per Groce. If their defense results in a low Zips 3 point percentage, the Zips continue to turn the ball over and the perimeter defense drops off again, it could be a long night in Stroh Center. 1 Quote
RoyalBlu Posted Wednesday at 05:53 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:53 PM (edited) Frankly, I don't believe ANY team in the MAC is playing the type of quality defense that consistetly holds teams below their scoring averages or shooting percentages. More and more it's the NBA style of getting up as many shots as possible as quick as possible. I haven't looked, but I would suspect there have been 3 or 4 Akron games already this season where BOTH teams have shot 48-percent or better FG in a game and many game where both have shot 38-percent or better on 3-pointers. Lockdown Defense is just not the priority it was for success like in the recent past. You're lucky if teams can man-up the last four minutes to get a victory. ewbrooman1 Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Just wondering who the bright person was who scheduled this game on Friday night at the same time as the CFP semifinal game. 🙄 Quote

Besides, there will be fewer people watching the CFB playoffs Friday than there will be people watching the NFL playoffs on Saturday. 1 Quote

I think they challenged themselves - Purdue, Yale, and Murray State are all projected to make the NCAA Tournament in the most recent bracketology on ESPN. Our problem dating back to the KD years has always been actually winning these games. I don't believe we have ever defeated a program in the Top 25. Our best non-conference wins were probably our NIT wins - Houston, Florida State, Temple. Quote
NWAkron Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago Huge game. Will set the tone for the remainder of the season. Quote

There are only two NFL games on Saturday at 4:30 and 8. 2:00 Saturday would have been a swell time for our game. Oh well, I'm sure the Friday night MAC slate will still bring in mega ratings. Quote

They aren't going to run infomercials all weekend during football games. They have to air something. Like I said before the MAC games are just filler content. They aren't ratings drivers. Never have been. Edited 17 hours ago by kreed5120 Quote

It's all mostly just filler content lol. I'm more pointing out that they aren't going to plan their schedule around what would give MAC basketball the best ratings. They have a lot of other programing that is as equal or marginally better. The game would only attract 10s of thousands of fans (mostly degen gamblers) regardless when it's played. I understand not wanting to play during the semifinals that way you can watch both, but frankly someone has to. Edited 1 hour ago by kreed5120 1 Quote
