Max Burton from Western Michigan has committed to the Zips, per his IG

Interesting. 6'10" 240 lbs - averaged just under 6 ppg and 5.2 rpg in 24.7 minutes of action per game. Very little college tape out there from a quick search, but his high school tape has him looking pretty athletic and with a jump shot. Oddly enough, he didn't make any 3s each of the past 2 seasons, but shot 37.5% 3P in 2023-24.

I'm a wait and see on this one. I trust Ford, though.

Evan Miya has him rated as the #73 player in the MAC last season and grades him as slight below average on both offense and defense. The hope would be a change in style of play and being surrounded by better talent would help him improve his numbers. On the surface not a signing I'm thrilled about, but the possibility exists that he over performs.

Max Burton was primarily used as a play-finisher and rim-runner, while also contributing as a rebounder and interior defensive presence. Given his 20+ MPG, he projects as a high-impact role player at Akron. I'm guessing he will likely be asked to fill a similar role by setting screens, running to the rim, finishing efficiently, rebounding, and defending.

Hard to get a read on if this is a good pickup or not. On one hand he only played in garbage time. On the other hand Purdue was loaded so the fact he was burried on the depth chart doesn't necessarily mean he isn't good.

Following the previous coach who essentially ignored the state of Indiana for any type of recruiting, this is a welcomed addition by the Balls faithful I'd imagine.

Sad to see him go, but he ended up where I expected he would.

Sad to see a "rafterable" player leave so soon, but that's the way it will be for the rest of our lifetimes.

I saw worthless talking head Clark Kellogg state "The mid-majors are losing their veteran players to P4 programs, but they're getting a better caliber of Freshmen than ever before. So it's a wash."

You know what they say when a Freshman redshirts? "You're trading your worst year for your best (5th) year."

The Zips now get a Freshman for his worst year, and P4 programs get him for his best years. Definitely a "wash." 🙄
