Zippy87 Posted 3 hours ago Author Report Posted 3 hours ago (edited) The quiet development of Colin White and Ivan Njegovan has strengthened Ohio State’s depth | Land-Grant Holy Land https://share.google/QXNbdzwOHalZMHpmo Edited 3 hours ago by Zippy87 Quote
Zippy87 Posted 3 hours ago Author Report Posted 3 hours ago More found on White: White was a top 125 recruit in the 2024 class, and was named as the 2024 Ohio Mr. Basketball. He earned first-team all-state honors as a junior and senior as he led Ottawa-Glandorf to back-to-back state championship game appearances in 2022 and 2023. White joins LeBron James as the only high school players in Ohio to start on a state final four team four consecutive seasons. He was also the first player in Ottawa-Glandorf history to score over 2,000 career points. The Ohio kid dominated the competition as a high school senior en route to winning Mr. Basketball, as he averaged 25.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.6 steals per games and was named the Division-III Northwest Ohio Player of the Year as a junior after averaging 20.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists. White played for Indiana Elite on the AAU circuit and helped the loaded team to a 39-3 record in his final season, averaging 14.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Quote

kreed5120 Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I'm not as thrilled about this signing as some of you seem. He definitely looks like the favorite (as of now) to start at PF, but even if you multiply his numbers by 3 to adjust his numbers to numbers he would put up in ~26 mpg they seem underwhelming, particularly 3P% and rebound rate. I suppose the hope would be that he was a step too slow and an inch or two too short for the B1G and that water finds it level in the MAC. Quote

It looks like he suffered a leg injury his freshman year early on and barely played. It required off-season surgery and he attempted to play last year but never found his groove. 2 Quote

This stings Toledo where the fan base wanted him back home. The key now is for White to measure up to his prep credentials as a MAC player. 3 Quote

I look at him as more of a physical 3 & D type. 1 Quote
Zips1991 Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago I like to think that a former Mr Basketball in Ohio would be able to become a good MAC player. So, I think it's a good addition! 1 Quote

We'll see what additions we still have added to the roster. My comment was more regarding the current state of the roster. I'm just not sure I see a PF on the roster as of right now (unless I'm missing someone obvious) and recently the Zips have been starting 3 guards, 1 SF, and 1 big. I saw some mention MMK, but we only saw him at the 5 last season and don't see him playing big minutes at the 4 unless he adds ability to score beyond 5 feet from the basket. Quote

kreed5120 Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Kent added Cam Williams from Portland. It looks like a fairly solid add. Quote

Let'sGoZips94 Posted 28 minutes ago Report Posted 28 minutes ago Hopefully Akron can help him develop to achieve his potential. Read the comments on this. A lot of believers in the kid. Quote

They have added 3 portal bigs so far (lost 2 grad bigs, 2 portal bigs) but none seem like a swap for Gillespie. Williams maybe swaps Whaley ... maybe. But one from EMU looks like just a rim protector and the other looks like a serious project. Both Kent starting guards portaled (both to losing programs) and SF (Safford) graduated, so they still got a ton of work left to do. In fact, all Kent's new signees are coming from losing programs so that lockerroom should be interesting. Quote

I don't quite understand his game because he isn't a lights out 3P shooter but doesn't get too many rebounds either. Quote

Of course they're not going to find that in the portal. Those type of players you have to develop. I assume Williams will play PF for Kent, but he isn't as good as Gillespie. There are a few international players coming to the MAC that I struggle to project what they're impact will be so this statement could be off base. The only MAC team as of right now that I feel has added more than they lost is Ball State, who I still view as a middle of the pack team. Much of that is because they really stepped up their financial commitment as part of the deal with their new coach. Miami, Akron, Toledo (in addition to Kent) all have taken a step back, at least on paper. We'll see how the coming weeks play out. Dhani Miller from Kent looks like a baller. I expect him to make all-freshman team and wouldn't be surprised if he wins FOY. Edited just now by kreed5120 Quote
