100% agree about your first point. Anyway, support from former players and people around the program matters a lot, but it’s often based on relationships and familiarity—not an objective evaluation of who the best head coach is going forward. The hire should be about proven ability to lead a program, make tough decisions, and elevate Akron moving forward. I'm not hating on Ford whatsoever, I'm just trying to be open-minded.

I don't think a young Gerry Faust is the answer. -
If it wasn't for the impending sanctions for the Stallions stuff, Michigan never would've gone with Sherrone Moore as their replacement for Harbaugh. Sherrone did Michigan a favor by being a POS human Wentz, former players, etc., are telling the world Ford is the guy. Those closest to the program know what the program needs. I trust them.

Maybe it's not just about the job. -
I agree if rumors are true that CoC plan to have a $2-$3 million NIL spend I'm not sure how Akron could come up with an extra $1-$2 million when we're already too poor to afford a training table. If Akron wants to avoid falling further behind we will need to foster better relationships with local businesses. Not sure how it can be done, but that will take time.

The Michigan football team (and myself) said the same thing about long-time assistant Sherrone Moore. One of my degrees is from U-M, so I follow Michigan FB as closely as Akron hoops, everyone wanted Moore. Turns out not only was Moore a POS, he also just wasn't a good football coach. Ford very well could be the guy but I think having an open mind could benefit in the long run. Andrew Goodrich has to get this right. To me, Ford is the easy choice, idk about the best - time will tell on that IG

He has the support of our current benefactors. The only legitimate criticism is his lack of head coaching experience. I just don't see a Groce external candidate out there. The closest one would be Hurley, but his blunt personality would likely rub people the wrong way pushing away both donors and STH.

yes. national search with a search firm is something the president and board would love to spend $ on
-
did Groce fundraise?
-
He has the support of Wentz. Next.
-
If your main donor, former players, probably current players, etc., are all calling for Ford to be hired, why in the world would you risk losing Ford?
-
What are Dustin's fundraising credentials?
-
If Ford is hired, do any of the assistant coaches stay?
-
Ford might be the guy, but I'd still run a national search. He lacks necessary head coaching acumen. Ford should be the guy if he keeps our big 2 though!

I live in Erie and follow Gannon somewhat. Fee definitely turned the program around, but Bazzoli took them to another level and a national championship appearance. He's a very smart dude and will be a D1 coach someday. Just not sure if that time is now.

Muse was the President when Crawford was hired? I recall from a Terry Pluto article in the ABJ that a big part of Crawford being hired was - He sent the UA AD a Christmas card every year after he left Akron (Crawford assisted Huggins for 3 years, then left in '86 to be an assistant at Tennessee). True story.

Assistant @ tOSU. Not the top assistant I don't think.
