  1. Honestly I feel we got the best CMU had and we STILL won. All this Zips team has done is win and still people find things to complain about.

  2. Last night it was like taking candy from a baby for Big Dog when he got the ball down low. The CMU fans seated behind me kept screaming for the double team but Keno wouldn't do it so Dog made them pay. When KD took him out of the game late in the second half he was not happy, shaking his head saying No when he saw E-man at the scorers table. After sitting for about 2 minutes and watching CMU make a run he got up on his own and walked to the scorers table to be put back in the game. Both Dog and Chop showed great senior leadership last night.

  3. 22-3 to close out the half. Wow :-) And do we give Kwan the "Jimmy Conyers breakout senior year award" yet? His game has improved so much. He still has his outside game which is even better but he's doing really well inside now too.

  4. “Kwan Cheatham is playing at a super high level right now,” Dambrot said. “So you’ve got a four and a five man who are arguably playing better than any big people in the league. Everybody talks about Dog, but Kwan’s doing a hell of a job.” Beacon Journal: Isaiah Johnson scores 33 to help Zips remain unbeaten in the MAC

  5. The last time we were able to stop dribble penetration they had to stop the game after every score to take the ball out of the peach basket.

  6. Akron (13-3, 3-0 MAC) at Miami (8-8, 1-2 MAC). 3:30 EST Millett Hall Miami. The Zips are the second highest rated MAC team at 91 (behind Ohio at 89) in Kenpom.com and the Redhawks the lowest (by a wide margin 50 spots lower than BGSU as the next lowest) at 282, so the Zips should be able to handle this one but strange things have happened at Millett recently. Maybe the MAC is a little better this year but the Zips should win this to go 4-0 heading into the Ohio showdown. Incidentally the Youngstown (8-9, #284) loss is looking even worse now but the Marshall (11-6, #97 and leading Conference USA) win is looking even better. I always thought the Dr. Z Three for Thursday football quizzes were fun so maybe we should start them for basketball.

  7. I understand that the Danang students are thrilled to be getting free admission to all Akron football and basketball games. Just as thrilled as our own students in Akron as a matter of fact.

  8. I was just thinking about that game too. You found the numbers before I did. Nice job. I remember him going to the bench late in the game, and the crowd was chanting Reg-gie...Reg-gie. I thought I was at a 1977 Yankees game for a minute.

  9. In this video, when asked about his Akron offer he says, “It gives you a sense of pride knowing that somebody has trust in you that you’re going to be an impact player for their program. And hopefully I can do that.”

  10. http://www.themorningsun.com/sports/20170110/indefensible-central-michigan-unable-to-get-key-stops-in-loss-to-akron Would have figured that the nation's leading scorer would be exactly that.

  11. What is UD's enrollment? Do we get to include it in UA's total enrollment now? How is the soccer scene in Vietnam?

  12. I agree. I think Dog is our MVP, because if you take him away from our team, our offense has to change entirely and we don't play that well when he is not out there. Not sure Dog is quick enough for the NBA but could definately make a 10-15 year playing career overseas if he chooses like many other Zips. For Kwan, I want to think he may get a "look" from NBA teams (If Rischaun Holmes can make it I think Kwan has a chance). He's 6'10 so I think he has decent size/length to play power forward. Many of the 4's in the NBA are more perimeter offensive players (which Kwan is). He moves pretty well for his size to be able to handle pick and rolls defensively (ignore almost falling down on the crossover and banked 3 last night). I would love for the Cavs to get him (not sure if they have a second round pick this year or as an UDFA) to give them someone else to spell Love other than Frye (plus he would be cheap for a team that is so over the cap). Obviously, the major knock is he doesn't really have a low post offensive game but that wouldn't be needed on a team like the Cavs. You just need to rebound, play defense, and hit spot up jumpers.

  13. Really nice MAC road win for the Zips. Especially with the injured/ill Hughes and Dunn-Martin not being able to give us many minutes off the bench. The starters logged a lot of minutes, and still finished strong. I don't know that our defense will ever show up this season. But these Zips seem to both enjoy, and excel at playing a fast, run and gun pace. Kwan and Dog playing at a Power 5 level. Fun stuff!

  14. I'm not going to try and pretend to know how great they are. But I will say that I think they can beat any team in the conference on any given night with those scorers. Their team build/playing style lends itself to big wins or big losses on cold nights. They aren't a slow grind it out team.

  15. You guys are not giving CMU enough credit. They are a solid MAC team and to beat them in their place is a nice win

  18. One heck of a run to end the half. Kwan and Big Dog were exceptional. Good too see Josh hit a shot at the end....finally.

  20. 1.) The haven't "used" their dad's legacy at all. The "Bowden" last name might get your foot in a door. Big deal...that's life...it's no different in politics, or corporate America or anywhere else. Terry's wins (160+) and losses are on his own merit. A Program like Akron would have been absolutely stupid to turn him down when he expressed interest in the position. 2.) You've heard Terry say he uses the "Bowden" name to gain a footing in Florida recruiting, huh? Would you rather he changed his name to Norris Neidermire, just to be fair to the other coaches recruiting Florida? 3.) You wonder why the Bowden name is so big in Florida? I'll leave that to stand alone. Bowden isn't riding any coat tails. He owns his wins and losses. If he has a banner 2017, or it goes down the toilet, it will have noting to do with his 88 year old dad. The credit or blame goes to him, just like any other coach. kreed - you, and two others on this board can out-type anyone. You guys love it, and can debate endlessly. I can't, and won't. I'm done. Go Zips.
