At this stage I'd rather us just target JUCO and grad transfers to fill out our roster. The last thing I'd want is us committing 3-4 scholarships for 4 years to kids that aren't good enough to be big time contributors. It would be far better for us to put ourselves in a position that Groce can recruit 4-5 next year who fit his system who he has an entire year to scout.3 points

In 20 years the kids are going to be saying, "Tell me about cable tv, grandpa."3 points

I just brought up the incentive for a 20 win season to stir the pot! At the end of the day, I want a team I enjoy watching. I did not enjoy this last season's team as much as I had enjoyed the past seasons and often found myself frustrated with them rather than enjoying them, even in their wins. By no means and am I one of those who discounts KD's contributions to the program, but I'd give up some wins to see some new things from the Zips in the transistion to a new system. With any luck, the Groce years will bring the wins along with some of the things I'd like to see (pressure; up tempo offense; some real out of bounds plays; better on ball defense...).2 points

I think he should. I think it's funny that there's a bonus for a MAC tourney title and a separate bonus for an NCAA bid2 points

Ohio North-South All-Star Classic / D-1-3 North roster The Zippers are very well represented on the North D-1-3 roster in the upcoming Ohio North-South All-Star Football Classic. Marquise Bridges (Ellet) Tracy Jordan (Springfield) De'Andre Brimage (East) Reggie Corner Jr. (McKinley) Marquess Callaway (East) Bubba Arslanian (Aurora) And I'm also quite sure East's Jemarulin Suggs is on the team even though I don't see him listed here. I don't believe we've ever had 7 players on this prestigious team before. TB's cranking it up.2 points

But if you are a 20 win team, as opposed to a 15 win team, you probably have demonstrated some level of superiority over the rest of the league, which increases the likelihood of winning the tournament title. And you'll be seeded higher, which also increases your chance of winning the tournament title as well. I feel like some people here have regressed back into this thought that if we win just one game each year, the rest of the games don't matter. Yet, winning games throughout the course of the season is what helps you get those opportunities to win tournament titles.1 point

I'm not going to judge Groce off of this years performance. If he puts us in a position to contend come March, he's a miracle worker.1 point

Looking at it through the Dambrot prism, they are each separate and not connected. As for "winning" a lot of games, in the Dambrot world the wins didnt translate into anything else. I have no idea how I will react to a 15 win season. Guess it depends on how we win and lose. And I mean by how we win and lose...Are we still losing all the big games or are we winning some upsets. Are we losing and playing uninspired, feet in the mud basketball or is there some fight each night on the court . Are we playing to level of competition ...Etc.1 point

Just like anything else in life, I think people will suddenly see the value in winning a lot of basketball games every year, when we are no longer winning a lot of basketball games every year. Right now, some people seem content with the idea that the winning isn't necessary to get MAC titles and NCAA bids. But unless we're going to pull rabbits out of hats here, winning games is a necessary part of the process of getting to the other two.1 point

I am too, but LePear is NOT a MM basketball talent. All things equal, go with local talent. But if we can get better, and we should, go where you have to go!1 point

So in the end, the University saves money with Dambrot leaving, and the ceiling is higher with Groce. I like it!1 point

All you need to know about Groce's contract. I enjoy reading Kevin Kleps. Think Darren Rovell on a local level with the douchiness. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20170410/BLOGS06/170419986/akron-mens-basketball-coach-john-groces-earnings-will-nearly-double1 point

If drafted by the proper team with a consistent staff and solid veterans to show him how to become an NFL receiver, he will do just fine. Hopefully he can get drafted at the bottom of a round, and not the top. Just like Hixon. PFF's evaluation is accurate, as always.1 point

I agree... This doesn't bode well for Dambrot and staff. Been beating a dead horse with the staff and its rep, coming to forwishen.1 point

Nice 3-1 exhibition win over CSU tonight at home. Fun match. Goals by Niko DeVera, Stuart Holthusen, and Sam Gainford.1 point

Because you just can't come on here and post a bunch of hearsay. If I heard some things unbecoming to KD from a source who certainly had the access to know and that I trust not to be spreading lies, I would believe them and I might drop a hint or two but I wouldn't come on here and spill the beans about it. That is a sure fire way for that person in the know never to tell you any juicy little tidbits ever again. But that's just me.1 point

I do. When you don't show up in a Championship game, against your arch rival, with essentially a home crowd, and a ticket to the Big Dance on the line... You've pretty much signaled to me that you do not want to be here. When you don't blow out inferior teams all year because you lack 40 minutes of desire and effort, you've signaled to me you don't want to be here.1 point

Good, if they leave cable it could open up more and better time slots for us. I do think streaming will grow to become a viable alternative down the road, but still too many people rely on cable television to abandon it completely.1 point
