One thing I don't think we've talked enough about is how we've seen this team improve week-to-week.5 points

We were starring at a 7-8 win season last year before we lost to Buffalo and Bowling Green. If this game taught us anything lets not circle wins and losses until the games are played. Upsetting a quality team like WMU doesn't mean a whole lot if we turn around and lose to a terrible team like Kent later in the season. Lets just take it one game at a time.4 points

Most people thought it was gonna be a blow-out. This guy nailed it. Give him credit.4 points

I liked how Thomas Woodson referred to him as Jerome Bettis ? wearing #36 when JJ asked about trying to tackle him. ?3 points

I must have a gene that compels me to respond to bull$hit. I can’t help it. Perhaps I should pay my money to 23andme.com and see if it shows up. I could enjoy the win a lot more if people would stop beating their chest to try and shame me and ZG01. We are Zips fans. We are happy we won. We don’t root for failure, but revel in victory. There is nothing that happened today that makes anything I have said in the past invalid. We went to Kalamazoo and stole one. Fantastic! Much better than losing, but to try and stick it in my face and flaunt your $hit because the Zips won shows how out of touch a person can be with reality. Milwee still blows and he needs removed. Big plays at opportune times won the game for Akron and again Bravo! To Chuck the Chest be the glory! I have never called Woodson out, but that other dildo is going to start a gofundme for me and ZG because it has to be really hard for us seeing the success. Give me a break. Woody went 13 for 23 for 128 yards. That’s what someone is rubbing in my face. My sincere hope is that Zips fans could somehow develop some objectivity about our football team. Too many people are playing by peewee soccer fan rules. The same people who are all butthurt about G5 programs not getting the respect they deserve nationally are the same people who whine, cry, pee&moan about me judging them as if they were a big boy program. Now, I’m going to go enjoy a victory cigar. Peace.3 points

Because I voiced an opinion that was against the competence of our OC in no way means I am not thrilled with our victory over a very respected conference opponent. To hint otherwise is just picking a fight. I'll assume that was not your intention. I still do not agree with your argument. Our OC shut down our offense in the second half and showed no creativity when the pass was not working. As for third and two, no team in the world with bad weather needs to throw. If we can't get two yards in two plays we have a bigger problem. Remember we were on their 34 and if the run failed we were not giving up poor field position. When the longer pass (15+ yards) is not working there are other ways to slow their pass rush i.e. screen, counters, trap counters, throwing to the TE, throwing to a back, student body right or left w/QB running, end around, etc. We primarily used the draw or slant. We can do better. If TB keeps his job and that means Milwee continues, so be it. Wilson and Miller will make the best decision they can and I will support them. There is much to like about this team and hope grows for a good future. I want that to continue. I just see a new OC as an area of improvement. If you and others feel otherwise, good for you. At the end of the day we all want the Zips to be outstanding.2 points

Utah State was 6-6 entering the game. The only reason you'd want to state they were 6-7 is if you wanted to diminish the win. The "glorified exhibition," just for clarification, is also known as a "bowl game." The only reason you'd call it otherwise is if you wanted to diminish the win. Amazing that our own fans want to diminish an Akron Zips bowl win. I liked that 2015 Zips team, and appreciate the bowl victory. I thought it was awesome.2 points

Milwee is the single most powerful force in stopping the Zip offense. Unfortunately he is also our OC. His greatest contribution today was sharing his offensive genius with the WMU OC. The affects showed. Western's OC was horrible. I honestly think TB could improve this team and program most significantly by firing Milwee. That action would also save TB's job IMHO. Why on earth would you throw the ball when on the WMU 34 with third and 2, and you must sustain the drive and use up the clock? Woody throws a pick and Western goes in for a TD. Hell we were in two down territory to get 2 lost yards and a first down. With a first down we would have at least had the chance for a FG and maybe ice the game. I cannnot stand Milwee and feel he is not capable of being an OC. That tempers my enthusiasm for our prospects. I wish TB was not so loyal and a better judge of ability as measured by results. I need a beer!2 points

Fire Lester Edit: I just read all 44 pages of the game thread too. It’s interesting and some of it sounds familiar.1 point

That does bring up one question for me. How can WMU do a game broadcast all them selves with multiple cameras and we cant even show replays on our scoreboard?1 point

Man that Troy loss is frustrating now. 5-2 with a win over Troy would look pretty dadgum good1 point

Already sort of were - Troy. The East is certainly winnable this year. BTW I wonder when the last time we finished with a winning record against the West was?1 point

We still beat a 4-2 football team. But if they finish the season poorly, obviously you'll look at the quality of the win a little differently. I actually think they will do fairly well from here on out. I think we just caught them on a day when things went our way when we needed it. That's college football. We'll probably be on the opposite end of the same type of event before the season is over.1 point

Any news on Hauser? Lako filled in like a champ, but who would be next on the two deep at the MIKE position if our starter is out and Lako starts running with the one's?1 point

I guess you can consider a TD pass to the tight end, and a wildcat formation TD run as somewhat creative too?1 point

even Zipsnation with the world is always going to end tomorrow mentality isn't going to steal my joy from this win. Go Zips!!1 point

I did not see the actions that led to these, but the crew led by Amanda Sauer, seems to call more penalties, in particular, holds, than other crews.1 point

As someone else previously mentioned, I'd love to see 6-0, 275 Kobie Booker lined up back there.1 point

Nice of you to try to insinuate what I'm thinking... Nothing you said has anything to do with what I'm saying. I stated Utah State was a 6-7 team because that's indeed what they finished the season being. Math can be hard but if a team enters a game 6-6 and loses, they are now 6-7. Had they beat us I'd say we lost to a 7-6 team. My gripe with the bowl system is completely unrelated to Zips football. Once upon a time making a bowl was a great reward. Now making a bowl game should be bare minimum expectation as over 60% of teams make bowls. We literally have 5-7 teams making bowl games these days. I complain about the NBA playoff system too for the same reason, its too inclusive. At the end of the day competing and winning in the MAC is more important to me than beating some random 6-6 (as you put it) non P5 team in some obscure bowl. I'll take beating the Toledo's and Western Michigan's any day of the week over beating Utah State. For the record I did enjoy beating Utah State. I just enjoyed beating WMU more.1 point

I agree....I was screaming at Jovan during his unfortunate series of downs early, but he has had a solid season so far, and it was out of frustration that human nature "motivated" me to write about screaming in his earhole....1 point

It's the 2nd biggest win we've had in the past 10 years. Use whatever adjective you'd like to describe it1 point

Last year we lost countless key players. Right now we're healthy...healthy, at least, as any college football program can reasonably expect to be 7 weeks into a season. Our defense was strong the entire game yesterday. That speaks to the depth we've accrued. They also played at a pretty high level. Everyone wants to credit Amato...and they should. But Stroud has done a great job. Mounds and Woodford too. Throw Gildersleeve in there as well - our guys are in shape and strong. Great win for the Zips yesterday. It gets some legitimate MAC Championship talk going in Summit County. That's awesome.1 point
-
I think today's win went a long way in TB having his contract extended. As we all know, anything can happen...but these Zips are now staring a minimum 7-win regular season square in the face. If that happens, tack on 3 more years to Bowden's contract.1 point
-
Wow what a defensive game. I don't understand not targeting Wolf on more throws and I think we needed to run the ball around the edges instead of up the gut a few more times late, but not complaining.1 point

Now,just win the East. That means you HAVE to beat OU,finally. The division games now become THE most important. Even if you don't beat Toledo, you hold serve at home against UB,OU and KS.U likely with those 6 wins you get the division. And,Miami is taking the hard swallow right now. So,you hang a second loss on OU,and that IS the key game, come up with a big effort against UB who is really solid,in good shape. UB has 2 losses. Miami has 2 losses. OU only 1 loss. If it comes down to KS.U last game,I think it ends like 2005. Just don't go to sleep on UB. We don't need no stinkin' tiebreakers.1 point
