  1. Just sharing - FAU has beer in the stadium. We also have an open-air full bar area, but that is on the West (home) side and you are "supposed" to have seats in sections 203-207 to be able to enjoy that (the stadium staff has not always been the best at enforcing that, though). If you look at an image of the stadium seating chart, the bar is the open area you can see between the lower and upper parts of those sections. But there are vendors for beer all over the place - several walking around selling. I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to all the beers that are offered, but do know that they are generally $8 for a 16-ounce bottle. Also, parking will be $20 and is first-come, first-serve in all of the lots assuming it is run like the C-USA championship game. FAU has nothing to do with the costs - all of that is set by the C-USA for the last game and the Boca Bowl for this one. Just in case anybody is coming to the game and wondering.

  2. He's been at Louisville 12 seasons and has not won a National Championship. Looks like it can't be done at Louisville.

  3. My wife was the one who decorated it and made the Z. ........... but my wife also chose the fight song for our wedding recessional and gave me a blue and gold wagon wheel with a name plate that says on 8/15 we tied the knot and kent state still sucks. It took me awhile to find Ms Section210Zip but she was definitely the right one

  4. Some might call it... Balsy. I actually kind of like it. I don't think anything that's been said has been out of line, and I like learning more about FAU. Now if only they would bring their weather with them when they come on this board...

  6. Good to have some back and forth. Honestly I don't know how the past performance and lack of success by FAU (or Akron) or games being referenced from previous seasons have anything to do with this year. Buffalo was probably an outlier of not a very good performance by both teams given the games were close. The MAC has 5 teams with 7 or more wins out of 12 teams, CUSA had 6 out of 14. The MAC had 7 bowl-eligible (6 got in) and CUSA had 10 (9 got in). I'd say both teams and conferences are probably better than John Q Public will ever give us credit for because of the conferences we play in and the football history at each place. Those kind of stats tell us that we have played some pretty decent teams, and the difference will be who can set the tone of the game. FAU thinks it will be us because of the tempo we run on offense. But like many have said, we will see.

  7. I'm optimistic that there will be some coverage: "http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/fau-owls/"

  8. I would like to add to your list: Inbounds plays that lead to layups instead of just tossing the ball into our center Fighting through the screen or pick. Duviver is the best! Team is much better at boxing out. NO early shots. This team always run an offense unless we have numbers on a fast break. Anticipating the pass and looking for the steal. We had 11 steals in one game!

  9. Agree. This forum has always been a bit weirdly defensive about that. Then again, we are a small fanbase and we have suffered a great deal lol.

  10. Not in my opinion. Most of the teams we've faced this year have shot in the mid-high 40% range overall, some of them even reaching the 50% mark, and many of them also shooting in the low-mid 40% range from beyond the arc. Teams may change, but the basket, ball, and court measurements/dimensions don't. They are also more athletic than "creampuff" OOC opponents from the past. At least two of the teams we've played thus far have had powerhouse transfers (UTC had a Xavier transfer I believe, and IPFW had a Purdue transfer if I remember correctly); I know that doesn't always mean much, but they were recruited by their original schools for a reason. Time will tell how good we actually are, as well as our early season opponents, but I don't remember 1) the statistical output by past years' opponents and 2) the athleticism by past years' opponents. There are simply fundamentals that I'm seeing this year - both from us and our opponents - that I haven't seen in the past that lead me to believe we're going to be just fine.

  11. Creampuff candidates on last year's schedule: YSU - Finished near bottom of Horizon. Horizon ranked 29th out of 32 conferences last year, using RPI. American - Finished last place in Patriot League. Patriot League finished 27/32 last year. Radford - Finished middle of Big South. Big South finished 30/32 last year. GA Southern - Finished middle of Sun Belt. Sun Belt finished 25/32 last year. Mercer - Finished middle of Southern. Southern finished 19/32 last year. Adrian - Not D1. Enough said. Coppin St - Finished middle of MEAC. MEAC finished 31/32 last year. MD Eastern Shore - Finished middle of MEAC. MEAC finished 31/32 last year. Candidates for this year's schedule (usng last years results): Cleveland St. (though this is a game I have no issue being played no matter how good they are) - finished near bottom of Horizon, Horizon ranked 29/32. UT-Martin - Won OVC. OVC finished 20/32. UT-Chattanooga - Finished middle of Southern finished 19/32. IPFW - Finished middle of Summit, beat us in post season a few years ago. Summit ranked 17/32 Appy State - Finished bottom of Sun Belt. Sun Belt finished 25/32. MVSU - Finished middle of SWAC. SWAC finished 32/32. Concord - Not D1. Enough said. Bolded is who I would consider cream puffs for each year. The MAC finished 10th in RPI, FWIW. If you want to consider UT-C a creampuff, fine, but then you would have to do it for Mercer last year as well

  12. I'm glad someone posted this, since I am sure many of us have a hard time recognizing whether he's "working" or on vacation throughout the year. So......We're expecting what level of coverage for our Bowl Game next week?

  13. It is definitely a 1-3-1. They threw in a 2-3 briefly at one point.

  14. Your are asking for sympathy from the wrong fan base, we restarted our program over from "scratch" in 2012. We are excited about where the program is headed now, but it took us awhile to undo what was done. This bowl game will be another step for both program's future success. Good luck. I have no inside info, I was commenting on the fact that coach mentioned that he may practice the '''starters" for an hour and dismiss them, and work with the young guys. It would not surprise me to see one of the younger receivers see some extended playing time on Tuesday though. Maybe somebody who "stepped it up" in practice this week...given more time.

  16. I love to hear our Akron Boys saying this, when they are about to leave here. Not only for the future recruits, but for the way they will spread this kind of talk throughout the local community as a whole.

  17. University of Akron football: Local players on Zips roster hope to leave legacy, building blocks for future success "Ten years from now when you look back and see that we had this team and no other team had done this in the past … that’s huge for the coaches in the recruiting process,” Moore said. “Younger guys in the recruiting process will know — especially the ones from the city of Akron there is change happening here. We are creating a legacy.”

  19. This is such a weird year that I don't know if you can even compare schedules. For one, I'm sure some of the games were already scheduled before KD left, and two, Groce got a late start and slots were mostly filled across the country. I'm curious to see what next year's looks like

  20. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lolla leave Louisville. The money train that was feeding the soccer program there went off the tracks when the Addidas story hit.

  21. Haven’t we been looking for this all year? Only South Alabama, Washington State & Western Kentucky rushed for fewer yards than us in ‘17.

  22. Thanks! Nothing like a little shameless pandering to the base to bump up your profile, right?! Ha! I already bought in emotionally, Griswold will now have to tell me where I buy in literally. I expect the handshake will come sometime after I reach Zip Junkie status.

  23. I think you hit the nail on the head. Maybe some people need to factor in the fact that we are playing these cupcakes this year with a team that's not as good as teams we've put up against them in the past. These teams may "appear" to be more competitive for that reason.
