If we have to lose a player or two due to character issues I'm all for doing it now so we set straight what culture we want from those players coming in. I'm not sold that Virsohn understands that or is willing to submit to a team first mentality. That being said I am not particularly close to the inner workings of the team and if i am wrong I am actually happy to be so. I want to keep talent, but it must be tempered by good character and the team above all else.3 points

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times- altar boys don't make good D1 basketball players.2 points

I sure hope KD reported that to the NCAA. If you're cheating and can't win the MAC, you're not very good at cheating.2 points

Yep, very tough. Arizona is playing awfully well right now and deserved better than a 4 seed.1 point

They are what we were. They have 3 titles in 4 years, we had 3 in 5 years. We didn't get the big tourney win - let's see if they can.1 point

What things are obviously different? Oh and a "legitimate concern" from the "concerned troll." concern troll In an argument, a concern troll is someone who is on one side of the discussion, but pretends to be a supporter of the other side with "concerns". The idea behind this is that your opponents will take your arguments more seriously if they think you're an ally.1 point

Some answers: * Transferring players on a coaching change is commonplace; * Can't imagine Ivey transferring in his senior year. He's a team leader and one of the guys who bought in right away; * Improvement is to be expected and enough next year for any reasonable fan. They are expected to be competitive, but a MAC championship and NCAA win in his second year is an unreasonable expectation. Rome wasn't built in year; * Meryl Streep has nothing to do with this.1 point

Buffalo with their third title in 4 years. Hate to say it but they're pretty much what we thought we were going to be. Oats has done a great job.1 point

Our basketball program has been clean under both KD and now Groce. The suspensions of Diggs, Harney, and Treadwell wouldn't have happened at most schools.1 point

In terms of number of violations, yes, we are comparatively "choir boys". The day that we hire a team of lawyers and put them on a long term retainer, for the exclusive purpose of litigating violations down to the lowest possible consequences, then I'd say that we were approaching that territory.1 point

Or, maybe some people are just more knowledgeable than you about certain topics? And actually do have a basis for what they are posting? https://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/toledo-rockets-point-shaving-scandal-three-former-football-players-sentenced-to-probation-033115 http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/7829414/ncaa-denies-toledo-rockets-appeal-postseason-ban-academics I'd definitely agree with whoever says that Toledo has had the most "issues" of any men's basketball program in our league over the last several years.1 point

I heard some innuendo about that as well. Maybe it's a holdover from their point-shaving scandal and NCAA probation. However, I think I can overlook that for a day because I really want to see SUNY Canada sent packing to the NIT. It's been almost 40 years since Toledo made it to the NCAA. Time for them to get a chance at it.1 point

The fact that a Zips fan has to even declare themselves pro-Groce illustrates how toxic this forum has been at times this year.1 point

@dre22era Not Groce's best coached second half, but you have a 5th year grad senior turn the ball over how many times? Groce didn't do that. Very disappointing loss, but don't come in here when you hardly post, looking to start crap. I have no problem with critiquing coaches/players, but your statement was childish.1 point

Former University of Akron football player Zach Guiser (Fayette City, Pa.) has earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, the NCAA announced. Each of the 30 Division I fall sports recipients will receive a $7,500 scholarship to be applied toward the graduate degree program of his choice. A semifinalist for the 2017 William V. Campbell Trophy, Guiser was a team captain last fall. A preseason All-MAC selection by Athlon Sports and College Sports Madness, he was named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. Just the second first-team Academic All-American in school history, Guiser suffered a season-ending injury against Iowa State. He finished this fall with 16 tackles, an interception, and a break-up. The Academic All-American was also a three-time MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and three-time Academic All-MAC selection. Named to the President’s List (8 semesters) for a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA), Guiser earned a bachelor’s degree in December 2017 in pre-physical therapy/sport science. A member of the University’s Honors College, Guiser is pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy from Walsh University. Additionally, Guiser will be honored on Tuesday, March 6, by the Northeast Ohio National Football Foundation with a $2,000 scholarship. The NCAA awards Postgraduate Scholarships to student-athletes who are in their final year of college athletics eligibility. Up to 175 scholarships are awarded each year for use toward an accredited graduate program. Awardees are evaluated on their academic and athletic achievement, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership. The program rewards college athletes whose dedication and effort reflect the characteristics needed to succeed in graduate study. Awardees are chosen by the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee, which includes faculty athletics representatives, athletics administrators, and a conference commissioner. “These scholarships are one of the ways the NCAA provides a pathway to opportunity for student-athletes,” said Mattie White, chair of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee and senior associate athletics director at Indiana. “These scholarships are reserved for student-athletes with distinguished college careers highlighted by outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, community service and leadership. These experiences prepare them for success in graduate study and life.” Source: GoZips.com1 point
