  1. Many people have been talking and saying that our 4 point victory in 2007 was a fluke. Time to silence the haters

  2. More than the $4, it's the time invested to travel down to the JAR in the middle of winter. Coaches and players want the JAR packed with fans. I do too. But it's really tough to justify a weeknight trek down RT 8 to watch uninspired, rec league style basketball against bad competition. Hope the team puts forth a better effort tonight.

  3. I get the three point shooting thing. It's what the college game has become, on all levels. I just hate how hastily the Zips occasionally default to it and that most penetration seems to be solely geared to kicking out. In reality though, if they were making a reasonable percentage of them I wouldn't be whining about it! Let's hope for a more entertaining game than Friday night's slopfest. Talk about a game killing your early season enthusiasm.

  4. How could we possibly "crucify" any Zips fan for comments such as these when they stem from the fact that OUR STANDARD for Zips Men's Soccer IS SO HIGH, and rightfully so. Our standard for all of UA should be as high. Instead of "ripping up each other" in discussions as 72 Roo has pointed out, we should all be letting our President, Board of Trustees, Athletics Department and other leadership know that we expect them to live up to the same high standards. It's unacceptable to be lazy in making financial decisions, hiring coaches and & other important decisions. Zips Men's Soccer, Track & Field, Swimming & Diving, Volleyball... are all exemplary of the high standards we expect throughout. Get onboard, earn your salary, or move on.

  5. One of the cool things about the MAC is the parity among the schools. In fact, one of the reasons it’s considered a cradle of coaches is because nobody’s got recruiting or resource advantages, so those who do the best work tend to get noticed. In that sense, most people thought Terry Bowden was doing a pretty good job at Akron, keeping the Zips competitive, even winning its division in 2017 and making a pair of bowl games. For some reason, though, Akron decided it wasn’t enough and fired Bowden last December. What’s happened since, however, isn’t pretty at all. Akron is 0-10 and has been out-scored 218-47 in conference play under first-year coach Tom Arth. For a program that had been middle of the pack in the MAC under Bowden, that's a stunning turn of ineptitude. Dan Wolken's Misery Index

  10. Thanks B & G! At this point, signing day is all we have to look forward to. Of course, true excitement will only come with results on the field.

  11. The jump shooting isn't a head scratcher whatsoever. Last season Akron attempted the 12th most 3's per game out of 351 teams. It's clearly a focal part of Groce's offense and he's clearly recruiting guys who are trigger happy. I honestly don't mind being a 3-point shooting heavy team as I feel with the shorter line in the college game it's a bit overpowering and a great equalizer for lessor talented teams. If we want to be that team we just need to get guys who can actually shoot.

  13. Hmm, and there was another tweet with four recruits from the same JUCO (I think it was Butler CC) touring campus. Can't seem to find it now. Anyway, Teon Dollard is a 6-0, 215 RB from Independence CC & looks really good; big, quick and fast. Here is his 2019 highlight video from 247 Sports dot com. Isiah Childs is helping us recruit Teon.

  16. The university as a perk allowed STH to trade in weeknight games for tickets to the other 4. THAT says a lot! I didn't used to mind midweek games until I had children old enough to play their own sports....

  19. Zips women battled #24 Michigan, but lost 80-71. Zips lead by 3 after 3Q after trailing by 13 after 1Q, but Michigan took advantage of their strength and skill down low to pull away. Really entertaining game in front of a crowd of almost 1000. A lot more entertaining than that brickfest last night by the men.

  20. Even if hosting high school playoff games isn't a financial plus for the U, I'd hope they'd host AMAP. It's great publicity & great for public relations. Get as many surrounding-community members on campus as possible. I hope the U pulls out all the stops next Friday to give both Hoban and Massillon fan-bases a first-rate, professionally-executed, top-shelf experience. -Every ticket window open and ready for business! -Every concessions stand open and ready for business! -Lots of knowledgeable ushers, everywhere I could possibly look, with smiles on their faces! -All restrooms open, clean and all toilets operational! -More ticket takers than necessary to expedite stadium entry! -Before the game starts make certain the scoreboard and sound system are operational! -Hell, open the InfoCision Zips Team Store! Who knows?! I hate to say it, but my vast experience with UA has me worried they'll be able to pull it off. ? Prove me wrong, UA! This is not the Bush League! This is a big time D-1 college facility! Walk tall, UA! Make me proud!

  23. Hey, just another note - IUPFW has a freshman from Aurora HS, Shayla Sellers. She's the daughter of Brad Sellers, former NBA star and Buckeye as well. And Michigan will have Izabel Varejao, niece of Anderson Varejao former Cavs player!

  25. Unfortunately, not a big surprise here. From Uplift HS in Chicago to Victory Rock Prep to Southern Illinois to Panola JC to Akron to... Recruiting like this is one of the reasons I'm having trouble warming up to Groce's program. Hope the kid finds a place he is content.
