You talking about the guy that's 9th in the country in assists per game? I might take the argument seriously if you didn't state he was our biggest problem. That's a joke. I'll ignore the personal dig as well.4 points

After we clawed our way back to tie the game at 61, we had 3 empty possessions on offense in a row. LCJ dished to Ali who missed a wide open 6 footer, to Dailey who missed a wide open 3 and to Trimble who missed a wide open 3. On the other end of the court man bun guy made 2 3's and Jackson drove it to the hoop for 2 layups. Game over. Unless some of the other guys step up we will continue to see LCJ be forced to carry the load. BTW, M Jackson dod most of his damage in ISO situations with Wynn guarding him during UT's run to put the game away.3 points

You guys are looking at the wrong end of the court. We scored enough points to win. We lost because Toledo shot 50% from the field, 44% from 3, and 89% from the line. Add in they outrebounded by 9 and did a good job of not turning it over then it's easy to see why we lost. This was a team loss. You aren't going to win too many games when you need your team to score 92+ points in regulation to win3 points

i wouldn't call Toledo less-talented. They may just be the better team this year. Their record proves that.3 points

In my opinion, the real test is the NCAA tournament. If we take out last year (tournament was not played) and this year (no tournament yet), Groce has coached in seven full seasons and made the tournament in 2 of them. That's a much better percentage than Dambrot (3/15) or Coles (4/22). More impressive is the fact that, at the tournament, he is the only one with a winning record. Back to your original question, I don't see a reason for a coach to not accept an extension knowing that it is a one way commitment. Groce will probably accept the extension and when a higher profile team comes calling, he can easily leave. My hope is that in this odd year, with all things considered, not many big programs will fire their coaches and therefore, there shouldn't be many attractive jobs.2 points

That is so patronizing and condescending. We are NOT casual fans and the basketball knowledge on here is high and those who don't know the Xs and Os like myself don't pretend like we do.2 points

Against EMU last year, he gave the assist to X for the game winner. The last game against Toledo he gave the assist to Maishe for the game winner. That's nice you know the guys.2 points

He pressed a little hard at times tonight but he also appeared to be the only Zip that made the trip.2 points

This game just showed me that LCJ is our biggest problem. All he’s cares about is scoring and getting as many shots up as his little arms can handle. Getting tired of watching him dribble the shot clock away and forcing up bad shots. If Trimble isn’t making catch n shoot bailout threes we’re bad. LCJ’s play style doesn’t allow any other zip to get in any kind of rhythm. Also questionable coaching decision leaving Maishe in down the stretch. He hasn’t been good at all watched him miss easy lay ups and give poor defensive effort on a consistent basis this year. Hate watching bad basketball.2 points

Just to point out the difference, the most common commercial on the PCCC/Oxford game was for a migraine medicine. We get Versace cologne commercials. Know your consumer!2 points

Any y’all read what Lincoln Riley said today about their signings. First ,they signed nothing but transfers and don't plan on signing any HS kids from Class of 2021.1 point

Tonight will be another tough one with a rematch against Buffalo. To me the third quarter of the first game was the season turning point or when reality set in for the team this year. They were 3-0 and sailing along with a 15 point lead with about three minutes left in the 3Q when the roof caved in. I root for this team as much if not more than the men because I feel like I know the players a little more than the men and the assortment of transfers, one year players , jucos etc. that so many of the men's teams in D1 basketball have become. It's nice to see a player for 3-4 years and watch them develop. That being said, I'm no coach/recruiter but I just don't see the consistent skill level on this team being able to compete with the top half of the conference. And if they keep getting crushed on the boards not much will improve. There is a lot of reference to the team being young but they began the year starting one senior, three juniors and a sophomore. Three juniors should really be stepping up at this time. Dawson is fine, but she is trying to do too much to make up for others. I hope they can step it up and turn things around a bit starting tonight. Go Zips!1 point

This year is unique. Some teams have played only 7 games and it’s February, already. It’s hard to gauge a team’s chemistry or psychology in a pandemic. With all things considered if the Zips players and coaches remain COVID free and healthy then it’s always a win.I wouldn’t worry too much about this year, everyone is granted a extra year anyway.1 point

As I have stated on here previously, I think the Zips too often get caught with 4 guys on the floor standing still watching LCJ on offense. However, that is now part of the game in the college shot clock era. I heard an interview of Bob Huggins a while back where he was lamenting the evolution of college basketball offense. To paraphrase Huggins, college basketball has become 15 to 20 seconds of teams running their offense, which doesn't work because every opponent has watched hours of tape of that same offense, followed by a pick and roll or isolation with your best athlete trying to make a play. If you watch the Zips, that's what often happens. They come down, you have motion through the offense, no progress is made and the ball ends up back in LCJ's hands to make a play. To our good fortune, he has he ability to do so most of the time. LCJ is actually much more of a facilitator this year than last, on a team that arguably has fewer playmakers. The approach of most teams this year has been to body him up, try to keep the ball out of his hands, focus primarily on him on defense and run him off of the three point line. That tells me that the coaches in the MAC do not believe too much of LCJ is a good thing for them. As for last night, they gave up 91 points so I'd place the loss more at the feet of the defense than the offense. At the end of the day, it was one loss against a very good Toledo team, a team that might well be 2-0 against the Zips if Toledo's coach didn't have a brain fart in the first game. Time to focus on playing Brimfield on Friday.1 point

These 3 should all be scholarship players. Jalen Ross is new, and a local kid who had numerous offers to MAC schools in the 2020 class. I'd assume he didn't make grades, as he signed with Ashland out of HS per his twitter.1 point

We have more depth 1-12 but Todd K does indeed have a better all around starting 5 in my opinion.1 point

It was mentioned in the Beacon and he did not play tonight. The official word is that he is out indefinitely.1 point

Agree with that. They are choke monsters. I think there will be a tournament. The schools are letting some fans into the games, and I think it would be just completely rotten to take that away from the players two years in a row. It's a seeding issue at this point. And, yes, they do have Zips #. The last 3 games against the Zips they've scored over 90 points. Houston, we have a problem.1 point

Toledo seems to have had the advantage all year. they got more games in and only loss in MAC is by one point in OT. Just too bad Zips weren't ready for EMU and NIU. Those two losses will haunt rest of the season.1 point

I don't know if I'm just attuned to these or not but I found another one. In an old episode of King of Queens, the character played by the recently deceased Jerry Stiller found a copy of the Akron Beacon Journal at a newsstand. Of course in the same episode they mentioned the genius of Kevin Spacey so maybe that one's not going to age all that well.1 point
