  1. Nice kid. I didn't think he was the same after the ugly fall against BG. Glad to hear he's doing well.

  2. https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/di-mens-championship-spring-contenders_aid48990 in this premium article (published before their top 25 was released), this is what they wrote about Akron(see writeup below in bold) My comments about their writeup...and some of my comments on where the zips will find production up top...are in non bold below top drawer soccer was very aware.....that David was in the pros. very poor writeup by TDS. They could have written that Jason Shokalook is an incoming freshman that they had ranked as one of the 50 recruits in the country. They also could have written that Akron transfer Tonny Temple (from NC State) was a 4 star Top drawer soccer recruit when he committed to NC State as fknbuflobo and Zip_ME87 have both commented, Akron has the players that can step up at the forward position. I have always been a huge fan of what Diogo Pacheco can do on a soccer field (when he is healthy) The coaches will find the best lineup.....but Diogo feeding passes in from the left side.....to a combination of Jason Shokalook and Tonny Temple.....sounds very promising to me.... I also think that Will Jackson .....will show a lot of improvement from his first year Good wishes to Egg-ie....in Vancouver.....but the cupboard is not bare in Akron AKRON Another side that should be talented and young, Akron is set to start the season without David Egbo, picked up by the Vancouver Whitecaps. Provided that the team can replace his quality up front – and there are options – players like Colin Biros, Daniel Strachan and Carlo Ritaccio give the team a solid spine that will be very competitive.

  3. Looking for a post player ... Jayden Sayles is having a Jimmy Conyers-type senior season at Stony Brook. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4279310/jaden-sayles

  5. This is a huge spot in the midst of a brutal stretch in this MAC schedule. When playing at Kent, I've always been frustrated by how much tougher Kent plays than Akron, Groce has mentioned this a few times as well on post game shows after these games. No crowd will certainly even that playing field. Perimeter defense and rebounding are crucial today. I'm hoping whoever is on Pippen (hopefully Ali) gets in his shorts similarly to how Ali did to Vander Plas when Akron played OU. They're dangerous in certain spots and only need a small window to make an impact. If he gets frustrated, he's still a technical foul machine even in his 5th year. That's where emotional maturity and toughness can really benefit the Zips. Kent's been scoring a lot of points lately, and their guards have been stellar, even without Nuga. Santiago is nearly a 50% 3pt shooter but went 1-6 at the JAR. Running those guys off the line and forcing them to finish with Enrique and Reece down low is a great recipe for success. Also in the game at the JAR, Marshall put in some very strong minutes in the first half with the game getting on the brink of being out of control, and Dawson buried a couple of big shots when the Zips started to take control. Wynn seems to have taken a lot of Marshall's minutes, but the thing I love about this team is their ability to put guys into their own roles so as not to ask too much of any one of those bench guys in particular. I can't say it enough, when those guys (Clarke included, hell I might be forgetting some there are so many!) play like NBA All-Stars in their roles, Akron is right up there with Toledo. There are few better feelings than winning in this building. I'm crushed we can't be there, but I'm just as excited as always. GO ZIPS!!!!! BEAT KENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. This is when we would be asking who is making the trek to Garrettsville for the big game. All on the line tonight for the Zips. Make or break moment for the 2021 season.

  7. Good for him. He was poised to be an impactful player in the MAC his freshman season before his freak injury. He never quite got back up to speed, mainly due to recurring injury issues, and not being up to speed isn't exactly a fit for Groce's system. Really glad to hear he's enjoying success at Stony Brook! Good ole Geno Ford...

  8. To satisfy the terms of the LOI, the player must stay for 1 full academic year. If the player fails to satisfy the terms of the LOI, the penalty is a loss of TWO years of eligibility. If Akron signs a Qualified Release Agreement, then the player could leave but would still lose One year of eligibility. If those were his previous offers, he better think about whether its worth one or two years of eligibility. And if Akron truly likes him, they don't have to release him just because Coach Cook left. The LOI is signed with a school, not the coach. If Akron wants the scholarship to offer someone else, then by all means, sign the Release, but the kid is still going to lose a year.

  9. Yet another coach leaving for a promotion. Cook was the OT coach, so that could have something to do with Gavin Malott's untimely tweet about his recruitment being reopened.
