  1. I've never blocked anyone on this site, but there may soon be a first. Not because I'm offended, but because literally zero value is added and 100% of posts are combative...literally a waste of time to read.

  2. Thank you, he passed his CFP and is doing very well, we both watch all the games and struggle to watch where the program is. Hope we get the right guy and get to see good football

  3. Hey everyone! New member here… I’m glad I found this forum, I’m a UA alum 2021, and back the Zips first and foremost. I actually played club lacrosse here as well. Go Zips!

  4. I liked that. He actually made a handful of good, honest points w/ very little coach-speak. He could, perhaps, turn up the charisma dial one notch. Lol. He was acting like he was still disappointed with & recovering from what happened to Arth, and I'm sure he is.

  6. Don't forget their arena facility is known as the Portage County Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Center. Oh, and it's "Mr. Pinky" to you.

  7. Akron's record would have been worse ...than 9-5-3......if they had a balanced home/road schedule Akron was fortunate to play 11 at home and 6 on the road If Akron has to play Pitt, Indiana, Penn State and Michigan on the road in 2022, Akron is going to have to figure out quickly how to play better on the road.

  8. Akron played Southern at 7 thursday and State played at BG at 7 thursday turnaround was the same for State at Akron Saturday at 7 State used a lot of subs on Saturday. Akron used very few subs

  9. We haven't had a deep threat like Dusty since he had to hang up the cleats. Hope he's doing well.

  10. That's juicy. Was this common knowledge? How did Williams botch the interview so badly? During Bowden's last year, or year-before-last, I don't remember, I remember hearing both Frye and Chase Blackburn were close to the program and volunteering some time, but then the next thing I knew Frye was down in Ashland w/ Lee Owens & Chase was nowhere to be found, so Idk if Bowden ran them off, or what. Anyway, Frye and Blackburn (as DC) could possibly be a package deal. And yes, this was a while ago and my memory is fuzzy so I'm almost entirely pulling this out of my

  11. Well, he certainly couldn't respond forward.

  12. There was some other Guy name Paul Brown who left coaching HC and lead some school in Columbus their 1st national championship Don't remind me. I was at a national college football powerhouse at the time Gerry was named the new Zip's coach and the verbal beating I took from people who knew my connection to Akron was unmerciful.

  13. His grammar is bad enough that he could become a regular poster here.

  14. Even if promises were made - and I know there's risk in using "just" stats, but Kato has by some margin the lowest completion percentage, lowest yards per completion, and he's gotten hurt. I feel bad, because his college career is just about over (unless he has more eligibility he can transfer for). But, if Akron's trying to win - and given the coach just got canned, they are - he's not the best choice to help do that.

  15. From 80 years ago when guys were in leather helmets and you could forward pass a ball to an offensive lineman. I like Tyrrell as a high school coach but comparing him to Paul Brown is like comparing Tiny Tim to Luciano Pavarotti.

  16. Coach O Rod doing things #hisway If anything it will be interesting to see the changes O Rod implements. Obviously he can’t make any major scheme changes in 7 days. But there might be some “Arth favorites” being replaced by guys that he likes better. Could Zips Grandma get her wish next Tuesday?

  17. I don’t want to hear any excuses about having a tough MAC schedule with the final 2 games on the road. Had our Zips taken care of business AT HOME v Georgia State, we would be in the 2021 MAC Tournament. No excuse for losing that game. Georgia State had to play us with the same small turnaround time, and they were on the road!

  18. Really? Comparing Tim Tyrrell to one of the preeminent football minds of the 20th century?

  19. Oscar Rodriguez seems like a really good guy, but I don't think he's an option like the article suggests unless the Zips win out and they blow every opponent out or so. I think Guthrie wants to start fresh and hire his own guy to bring in their own guys who will be fresh faces to the program. Just my opinion. With this being a huge hire for Guthrie's want to continue to climb the ranks, I think he has his own plan that doesn't involve anything from the Arth era. I, of course, can't say this factually though. I've been proven wrong many, many times in life when I've assumed. Haha.

  21. https://www.on3.com/news/akron-zips-job-linked-several-nfl-college-position-coaches-notre-dame-fighting-irish-green-bay-packers-ohio-state-buckeyes/amp/ Out of this article above, I want Akron to take a look at Iowa State OC Tom Manning. He is from Youngstown Oh. Matt Campbell’s right hand man. Plus he knows the Mac as he coached with Campbell in Toledo. From his bio with Iowa State very involved with recruiting. Worth to take a look.

  22. Don't forget the Notre Dame connection. The Catholic school connection seems to matter a lot around Akron for whatever reason.

  26. Out of Likes. No Akron players should ever be yelling such things, win or lose. That's MY job! Zips players should compete, but with dignity and respect. And yeah, Falcons are laughing last on that account. Remember the days when we hated that the MAC Tournament, because it would hurt our RPI?

  27. Tony Alford. OSU running backs coach. A John Hunter with better current Midwest credibility. Bonus reason: Brother of the late Aaron Alford who coached early in the Brookhart years. A fantastic guy.

  28. Good points. Here is another item. I know you kids will sometimes say things in heat of a competition or afterwards, even adults do. BUT , after we beta BG 5-1, I stuck around for the 'I believe' chant. Before it was said , one of the Zips players s yelled " (blank) B.G." Their players were still near their bench . Well guess what : They are going to the MAC tournament, we are not. They have a chance to go the NCAA'S , we do not.

  29. I recall some guy (think his first name was Gerry) who was a fantastic HS coach in Cincinnati and was hired as HC at Notre Dame where he was a miserable failure. Turns out a lot of success at the HS level may have been due to the fact that he could recruit players while most of his counterparts could not.

  30. I bought a nice A-Roo flag to fly from my front porch. I think the year was 2003, but not sure. Every year, the flag goes up once I attend a Zips practice, which usually occurs in July. The flag comes down the day the Zips are eliminated. This flag has never been put away this early in the year. Never. Never. Hell, High School Soccer is still playing. This is beyond unacceptable. Should I really hold out hope for an NCAA at-large bid? Seriously? Three years outside of the NCAA post season means the mystique is gone. Dead. It is part of the past. I will not tolerate anyone talking about the Akron Way, or We Are Akron, or any of that pitiful shite. DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!!!!!!!!!! Soccer Kings? My Hairy Ass! Jared, Ger, and Mikey, et al had better ask some really hard questions of themselves and of each other. Are you guys still up to the challenge?!? We can no longer say that we need to do the things we have always done, but just do them better. NO! Root Cause Corrective Action DEMANDS that new action be taken. We need a paradigm shift. What are the new ideas? What will you do differently? Not better, differently!

  32. In the basketball thread do not refer to the team from Portage County by their "given" name. You have many other options including (or make up your own): PCCC (Portage County Community College) Ravenna State Streetsboro Junior College Portage County School of Fashion and Design PCCC @ Garrettsville Brimfield Tech PCCC's basketball coach "The Dean of the Mac" is known as "Pinky." And we are all very happy they keep renewing his contract.
