I get the disdain for him, but I’m glad there’s at least something to inject life into that place, however artificial it can be. I like him. I may get grilled for that hot take, but that’s fine. And I also agree with you that it is pretty absurd sometimes. But if Moorhead can fill that joint, and we’re competing in games, and it gets rocking a little bit, he’ll keep people fired up like Willy Kollman used to at basketball games. Again, I totally get the criticism for him. But I’ve been to a number of games at Kent in recent years, and it’s absolutely lifeless without something like that. They do have people do marketing competitions on the field which is cool, but at least Joe Akron can see Keith Kennedy at a game and be like “oh cool, that’s the guy on the radio in the morning, this place does kind of have some relevance.” Kent had that Ahmad guy from the Cavs do it a couple times (starting lineup guy) and he was absolutely horrid. You could tell he was just in it for the cash, he didn’t give a s*** about Kent or the game. Keith Kennedy seems to, and I’ll give him props for that.2 points

If you are at the games, Kennedy is the guy who, after Akron fumbles on the 3 yard line, grabs the mike and asks the 500 fans to "smile for the camera" or promises chik filla for the 7 people in section 332 if Akron makes a field goal.2 points

Well said. One of my biggest knocks on Arth was his inability to put together a legitimate D1 coaching staff. Perhaps he lacked the connections to do it, but it's like he brought his entire UTC/JC staff and that was it. Except for Gasser, I think he just wanted to come back to the area after Iowa State let him go.1 point

Live look at NC State's Men's Basketball Coach... (a bit of a stretch, but I will find any excuse in the book to share this classic video of our former DC)1 point

No disrespect intended to the kid, but this situation is further indication that the prior staff was not recruiting FBS level talent.1 point

+1. That's a great story and I wish him the best. But it was his teammate, Mason Mennell that I was crossing my fingers for. Mason signed with... KSUcks 🙃 So glad Arth is out of here. @zippy-claws, just an FYI, make sure you check the initial post in this thread (at the top of Page 1), as I try to keep it current with each new verbal commit (including where they went to high school or what college they're transferring from).1 point

Well that goes along with my suggestion that they revamp the entire game day experience and make it less cringy...for him as well.1 point

I only listen to satellite radio, and always have way too much food at my tailgates… so it wouldn’t help me. But if it brought Joe Akron back from the dead I’m all for it.1 point

The only radio station presence is the vapid and grating Keith Kennedy. Banishing him would be a good first step.1 point

That was absolutely glorious. I love watching Kent football get blown out. They end the season as they should, a .500 team.1 point

Thanks everyone for the appreciated effort y'all are making by including schools of prospective transfers and signees, I really do appreciate it! @LZIp @94zipgrad, @Captain Kangaroo1 point

Buffalo hasn't had a great OOC start, but they'll be at the top or very near it at the end of the season. I expect OU, Toledo, Akron and PCCC to press them. BG may sneak into the pack at some point but will fade as usual.1 point

Amazing that all these kids are getting offers without an email address out there for our staff 😂1 point

Sorry chief, but I will root for Kent State in the bowl game. Every year, the MAC shows up as the worst or one of the worst FBS conferences. Getting 8 bowl berths for the MAC is a complete joke. There is no way a 6-6 MAC team deserves a bowl. In the remaining 6 bowl games for MAC teams, they are favored to win 1 time and lose 5 games. Only Miami is a minor favorite to win. If the MAC ends up 1-7 or 0-8 in bowl games, that may hurt future choices, which the Zips will be lurking soon. Also, I get grief for my Suckeye comments, especially from Clark, but there are many more worse comments regarding other teams. And, they are fine with me. Merry Zipmas1 point

I am happy this game was scheduled. Do we know if Wright State will be making a return trip to the JAR in the future? The TV announcers tonight kept mentioning how Akron does not play many true road non-conference games. I have always been somewhat critical of bigger programs for not scheduling more away games against either smaller schools or at least road games where they would be prohibitive favorites. I would love to see Big Ten, Big East, or top half of the Atlantic 10 or Missouri Valley teams more often in the JAR. I actually think those type of games would be good for both programs. With that said, though, I have always thought the Zips should schedule home and homes with similar type teams as themselves and I really think it would be good for Akron to play a road game or two against smaller schools or schools over whom they would be a prohibitive favorite. I just think that is the way you toughen a team and get them more prepared for conference play. How would everyone feel if we scheduled a road game with someone like Radford or a middle of the Ohio Valley or MAAC type team? I think it would be a benefit to the team overall.1 point

Agreed. But I think they probably filmed that at the Cleveland Hopkins airport.1 point

IMHO... I don't really care much about the primary logo debate, but AU has a new coach and staff, new players coming, and a new season to prove itself. From a psychological view, it needs a new "brand" to signify the beginning of a new era. The players and the fans will appreciate another gesture that the program is changing and there is optimism for next year. Products and services rebrand themselves periodically the create new interest and enthusiasm. Isn't that want we want? Change the helmet design, maybe some simple uniform changes, a new motto...little things in the grand scheme that can subtly lift spirits, moral (players), and show that AU football is back and will be a different competitor!1 point

Indeed, you have the right to post whatever you want. Silly me for thinking that Sunday might be a good day for focus on celebration of the new coach. I'm still caught up in happiness that you landed such a great head coach who seems to be such a great fit. Looking forward to joining you guys for tailgating and a packed crowd.1 point
