I view it as a hint that we'll be going with a no punt, no FG, onside kickoff offense this year.5 points

I like this. Alright, I've got my story and I'm sticking to it. The turf at the Info cannot handle the explosion that is our offense. Until that is replaced, they'll need to strictly utilize the Fieldhouse. The Fieldhouse does not change the game at all, as our games will not feature punts or FGs due to the success of the offense. The noise level and echo within the Fieldhouse will semi-closely imitate the sound of 30k at the Info during the season. Gonna sleep very well at night telling myself this before closing my eyes.4 points

Five years ago I came onto this forum and congratulated you all on the hire of Coach Groce. After showering Groce with similar praise I believe @clarkwgriswold asked me if I was a member of his family. Ha!! As the founding member of the Homers for Groce Association I am very pleased to see the ranks have swelled to new heights. But not the least bit surprised. Go Zips!!4 points

Groce's hiring brought one of the best members to ZipsNation - @Illini Zip. Win win.3 points

It's amazing it's been 5 years. I was apprehensive on the initial hire, but he's certainly brought me into the fold these last 5 years. I think John Groce is the kind of basketball coach that you HATE when he's not your coach, and LOVE when he is your coach. Probably like Bobby Hurley was for UB fans. I got caught up in those years of hating him as OU's coach so it took me a few to warm up. The latest news on the extension certainly pushes me further in that direction. Let's hope we have a long-term solution in place for MBB and football. Go Zips!2 points

Sadly, yes. This decision is just too much! HA kidding!!!! I'm afraid he's going to leave for another school at some point as he continues to do great for Akron. It would take a lot for me to want Akron to fire that man.2 points

I love his tape (and we all the know the type of competition Massillon plays against) and we are his only FBS offer so far, so you'd have to think it would be us..2 points

There's definitely reasons for the game to be held indoors. We could have a day like Tuesday this week where it barely touches 40 degrees with wall-to-wall clouds. However, outdoors should be the default with an option to move it inside due to weather or other extenuating circumstances. I'm sure I'm oversimplifying the logistics of the decision process but we're not at the Rubber Bowl anymore. These two venues are 100' apart and we have a fairly accurate forecast 5-7 days ahead of time. I'm not interested in watching a glorified practice indoors where there can't be punts, field goals, or even a kickoff. I may stop by campus for the surplus sale, but most likely I'll stay home and get some work done on the house. Incredibly disappointed.2 points

Why am I still completely stunned by this type of planning by script Akron? Totally jacked fan base that is excited about both staff and players and we 'plan' an opportunity like the Spring Game around LAX??? I and others circled Saturday on our calendars. Day has been freed up as far as I'm concerned. Looking forward to reading about how it went. <smh>2 points

UT’s offense can put up points in a hurry. It’s not a complicated offense, but they move very quickly and put a lot of pressure on the middle of the field - in particular the linebackers and safeties. If we’re not disciplined, the game could turn ugly in a hurry. If we can get through MSU, UT, and Liberty fairly healthy we should have a chance to win every game in the MAC. I’m not saying we will win every game, but with the influx of talent to the roster, I don’t see any reason why we won’t be competitive in every MAC game.1 point

Another scholly opens up for a player that can be a bit more productive in our system. I very much appreciated how Michael responded to the adversity throughout the year, and made a huge push to contribute by the end of the season. However, he was a liability on offense. We need offense.1 point

Akron F Michael Wynn has entered the transfer portal. verbalcommits.com/players/michae…1 point

That is one heck of a get for PCCC. Wow. Pinky is such a great coach, I'm sure he'll be able to elevate Thomas's game even more. In all seriousness, can this guy rap? His stats aren't much to look at but maybe he'll bring some pop with his vocals on their next diss track.1 point

There are so many players hitting the portal since the deadline is fast approaching. I see so many LB's in there I'd love to have, because the LB position is the one I'm most nervous about for this upcoming season.1 point

agree, although he's no where in the league of Hurley on level of obnoxious. I hated him at OU but was totally on the Groce wagon once Zips hired him. Noting the story in the Transfer Portal thread, regarding players threatening to leave the power conference teams if they aren't compensated...I could see why a coach would want to stay at a mid major and not deal with that headache1 point

That’s a bit extreme. However, I think expressing our displeasure with the situation and asking for better planning is appropriate. I’d also be more accepting if he admitted a mistake in planning instead of trying to cover it up with the weather. OMG this might be the first time football takes place in less than ideal conditions in NE Ohio. Thus we are holding it indoor. Really?! Lol!!! Never mind that fans in attendance should have access to the club and “ritzier” levels. Maybe that would draw more fans allowing them to watch from those seats if they wish. Some people might be excited to enjoy those parts of the stadium.1 point

I am really disappointed in the use of the Stiles Field House instead of the stadium for the game, but I'm still going because I'm just too excited about this year's team not to.1 point

Out of an abundance of caution regarding OH weather in April .... or "HOW much money will we save in staffing and other expense?!?" I just have to wonder ...1 point

And so it starts. Players threatening to leave if the don't get the same deal. https://theathletic.com/news/miami-isaiah-wong-nil-deal/VfKukhEhOjar/?source=fbnews1 point

One of those where the physical talent is there, but the rest isn’t clicking. I’m sure there are more to come as I believe 5/1 is the cutoff date for portal entries, unless they want to sit a year.1 point

I’ve been told by the AD that moving the Spring Game has to do with not causing any issues should the Women’s LAX game go into OT. How long has the Spring Game been in planning? Is the Athletic Department incapable of planning to avoid such a situation? Seems like simple schedule management / advanced planning to me.1 point
