  1. EKU Bio Played in all 12 games his freshman year. Started all 11 games last season and had a couple INT's (the Zips only had 6 as a team in 2021). We aren't exactly overflowing with talent on the defensive side of the ball. I would expect him to be in the mix for a starting job. Bright kid...offered by Cornell, and was Scholar Athlete of the Year at his HS.

  2. What do we know about Michael Wynn? The last I heard he entered the transfer portal. We might have one scholarship left. I will update the chart sometime today.

  3. This is an insanely talented team on paper. Repeating in sports is one of the hardest things to do, especially in this league. I think Buffalo is the only team to repeat recently since Kent in the early 2000s. With that said, I feel that this team could face similar challenges that the title team did. While there may be some early season struggles with guys figuring out their game and the staff playing around with lineups and matchups, I firmly believe that we'll be back in the thick of the title race once again. I am a bit concerned right now about the lack of a second true center, especially for foul trouble situations and when the shots just aren't falling. It's always nice to have Freeman to throw it into for a high-percentage look after all. I'm excited for the possibilities with the shooting. Clarke is a decent shooter, X is a great shooter, Dawson is a really good shooter, Hunter has shown potential other places, Hankerson is a great shooter, Kobe Mitchell is supposed to be a great shooter, Tavari Johnson is supposed to be a great shooter, Ryan Prather is supposed to be a great shooter, Mosengo is billed as a great shooter, Amani Lyles looks like he can be a shooter. On top of that, all of these guys look to be supremely athletic, still with plenty of potential to continue to bulk up. As I look at it right now, I simply see a lot of options for this coaching staff. They've got the whole offseason to come up with a plan of who to redshirt, who to put at the end of the bench, who to put in each lineup, and then watch it play out in the early goings. If we've learned anything from this past season, it's that we shouldn't get too high and too low no matter what we see on the floor in November and December. A long list of highly touted guys will be putting the uniform on for the first time this year. While I would've hoped a guy with experience like Ali would've stuck around, we've got a great mix of young talent and seasoned vets. X is one of the most experienced basketball players in the country, Freeman is one of the best centers in the country and has been here for a ling time, Dawson has blossomed into a tremendous glue-guy and he's been here a long time, Clarke has been here for a while now. This could be special. I won't get my hopes up yet because we all know that potential is just that--potential. But wow, this is amazing and we're lucky to have Groce.

  4. Love it. 6'8" 195 lbs Forward out of Congo, by way of Victory Rock Prep(?). AAU video I saw shows he is quite athletic with a jump shot. Another Stretch 4. Deng Riak and LCJ were out of Victory Rock Prep. This guy could be a player. https://youtu.be/J4xaDGD3G8Y

  7. With the acquisition of Prince Mosengo, it might open up the opportunity for additional mining of talent from this really outstanding new prep school Keystone Academy in Erie, PA. According to this story, @BCJoeMo already has one of Prince's teammates on his squad. https://www.goerie.com/story/sports/high-school/2022/04/10/keystone-athletic-academy-kings-players-raise-recruiting-stock-1st-season-dellquan-warren/7041831001/

  8. I think "odd man out" could also mean in the rotation. This roster might truly be 13 deep. Figure 1-2 redshirts, and it's still 11-12 deep. After 10, you're looking at 10-12 minutes max per game. I agree I don't foresee anymore departures, but they could be odd man out this year and transfer next year for more PT.

  10. My copy of the University of Akron Magazine arrived in the mail today. There is a nice interview with Coach Moorhead on page 14. My favorite part follows: What are the similarities and differences for you between teaching and coaching? As a coach I view myself as an educator. Anything that a teacher is trying to accomplish from a methodological and development standpoint are all the same things we’re doing in football. It’s just a different medium. As a teacher, you do your research on the material, you present it to the students, they study and then you have a method of ensuring they understand the material. In a classroom, a test is done in a quiet, sterile environment with a lack of distractions and variables. As a coach you do the same things leading up to the test. But for the test, you may do it in front of thousands of screaming people, in the rain, with people trying to rip the pen out of your hand and kick the chair out from underneath you.

  11. Interesting that the majority of his highlights on his Twitter feed are of him playing safety, but yet he’s listed as a cornerback. He’s definitely a better fit at safety. He plays the ball well in the air and will come down and hit. At cornerback, he loses a step when he flips his hips and doesn’t possess the burst to catch back up on a well thrown ball. All of his breakups at CB are on under thrown balls. He flashed the same traits on his high school film. I think we landed a solid player if we play him at safety. He’ll fit right in laying some hits with our young ILBs.

  13. If they are, how full is this roster? Seems like we almost have too many guys. I would imagine the kid from Columbus would be a candidate for a redshirt since he was planning on prep school anyways. Not sure who else would be a redshirt candidate.

  14. I’ve been keeping an eye on Prince via Verbal Commits. He’s a 3-star prospect. I do hope our true freshmen forwards are ready to hit the ground running.

  15. And not many people know this fact, but Freeman did not have any D1 offers. (LOL) And Trimble was highly recruited out of Missouri. We will probably know in one or two years whether this is a good recruit.

  17. At the very least, he's a one year stop gap at back up...which is very thin. Best case, he returns to his freshman year form and challenges Irons.
