  1. So……..It’s snowy….. the band shifted North overnight, left about 6” this morning with it still snowing I left my house at 8 to head up to the stadium to help shovel. So I was in that video above somewhere. Started at 9, had roughly the entire visitor side up to midfield, done, at about 9:50 we heard they cancelled. even though it was still snowing….we could see the southern edge of the band, and beyond it was bright, meaning further towards Buffalo and south. The people south of Buffalo are getting a much needed break today while the north towns get the snow. I did confirm that the Akron Equipment truck was within half an hour of being here THURDAY before being told to turn around, not sure by who. having no reason to continue, after milling about for a few minutes, ended up leaving. By then the southern edge of the band and begun to pass over and it had stopped snowing. on the drive home, once I crossed into Niagara County, I pretty much had driven back into the snow band as it slowly crawls north today. had about 12” on the ground when I got home at 11. Been outside snow blowing and shoveling since. The snow has lightened now after I came in. we are expecting a cold front to come through this evening and give us a quick 2-4 additional. Then another snow band was supposed to set up again and move north to south, fairly quickly, before weakening and dissipating down in the southern tier tomorrow. so we tried……..about 30 people were there shoveling, and honestly, it wasn’t too bad of a task. Although I did here todays job was easier than yesterday because there wasn’t a crusty icy layer on the turf. Had the game still been on tomorrow, chances are I was volunteering to shovel before the game. I also guess the Conference confirmed that if Ohio loses to Bowling Green, and we beat Kent (which needed to happen anyway) we’ll be going to Detroit, even with cancelled game. I guess there’s still a chance the game might happen, if we need it for bowl eligibility, but I’m not gonna hold my breath. All of this becomes moot if Ohio wins anyway.

  2. Zips football has been historically bad during these student’s entire lives except for one season (8-5, when Bowden still gave a crap. Which was good for 3rd place in the East). Being a (non-traditional) student during that time, they were still a laughingstock among students and educators. “Yay we won the Idaho Potato Bowl!! Ha ha ha…” When students live within an easy walk (or bus ride) of the stadium, get in free, and find something more fun to do, it’s not going to be easy to change that culture. It would take sustained winning, a couple wins against P5 teams, and lots of positive news to change the culture. In Joe we trust.

  3. Why have income if you don't dispose of it? Team left today. I'll be there tomorrow.

  4. When Bass picked up a quick 2nd foul, it felt like it was going to be a 40-point ass-kicking. She only wound up playing like 4 minutes of the first half, but the Zips locked down defensively and it was very impressive. YSU’s forward was having her way early on, and didn’t do much the rest of the game. Many Zip teams over the last 6 years would have crumbled in either of these first two home games, but this team seems to be pretty resilient. They kept playing hard on defense despite not getting anything but chucked up threes to fall early, and they played themselves back into it. The quality of the MAC is still very high despite the departure of Legette-Jack at UB. A Zips womens ticket is a great buy if you want something to do on a Wednesday night, and this is an easy team and staff to get behind!

  5. Clown conference. The storm was known about for a week, and to not have a contingency plan in place by mid week to get this game in is inexcusable.

  8. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/soccer/article-richie-laryea-canada-fifa-world-cup/ Despite being thousands of miles away from his loved ones, last Sunday’s selection to the Canadian men’s World Cup squad was still very much a family affair for Richie Laryea. While the fullback was in camp in Qatar when the final 26-man roster was announced, his father was outside Toronto’s BMO Field, underneath a billboard announcing his son’s selection, for a TSN interview. Meanwhile his wife Melanie and son were busy filming a TikTok reaction video to commemorate the moment, with three-year-old Elijah – wearing an Alphonso Davies jersey – screaming “Daddddeeeee” as TSN host Lindsay Hamilton announced his father’s name.

  9. True. Good point. It’s like the MAC didn’t even realize there might be a potential problem till Thursday. TF? 🙄

  10. We both had mid-week games Nov. 8 & 9. They should have moved this game up a few days - we both still would have had a week between games (tbh, Buffalo should have been leading the charge)

  11. The league just further hurts its own fanbases. In addition to only getting to see Akron play at home on Saturday 3 times this year, two of the Saturday away games were against opponents that completely overmatched them. The Zips are capable of beating a team like Buffalo. And for Buffalo, the tie-breaker scenarios are explained so they can still win the east, but now they have to beat Kent to even have a chance at a bowl instead of having 2 games to possibly get to 7-5 if the game is never played. This was all predictable and could have been avoided.

  19. Columbus Crew forward Josh Bartels will attend Akron in fall 2023 https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=26&articleId=51535&articleTitle=commitments:-a-crew-forward-chooses “I decided to commit to Akron because of the environment surrounding the great style of play, from the way the team bonded, to the quality of play on the field,” Bartels told TopDrawersoccer. “It felt like somewhere I wanted to truly be.” “I specifically liked the traditions that the team held, the goals they set for themselves, the pre-game talks,” he said. “It was all for the better of the group rather than the individual.”

  21. BG has won 6 games this season. Toledo has won seven. Akron has won eight...eight games over the past 5 years combined. Tough to get fans and students to turn out when that level of football has been played. There are 4-year graduating seniors who have seen their alma mater win a combined 4 games in their UA tenure. Holy hell...
