  1. Jester is now rated and is the highest ranked high school signee in our class per 247. https://247sports.com/player/david-jester-46056682/

  2. Bryce Wilson in the portal too. That loss has a little more impact than Fann, but he was relegated to a rotational player under Moorhead as well. I think we were all wanting some turnover on the OL and DL, and we are getting it. Looking forward to see who we can bring in...

  4. Funny, he did the same thing in Athens last Friday. Showed off for the dozens of people watching at home on the other side of the camera then clanked the front end of two 1-and-1's to give us a shot to tie the game at the buzzer...which could not have been executed more horribly. Kent is a good team but they are not at all invincible.

  5. You can look back at my post history. I had the Zips winning 2-3 games this past season. I feel many underestimated how decimated the roster was when Joe took over. No coach was going to come in and win 5-6 games year one. That said, I do think 6 wins this year is achievable. It would likely require us going 5-3 during MAC play. I won't make any formal predictions until the official MAC schedule is released.

  6. I'm a big believer of bowl or bust as well going forward, though any improvement in the W/L is welcomed after what we watched the past few seasons. Breaking down position groups from last year to this year so far: QB - same or better - banking on Irons improvement RB - better with the addition of Lingard. Lost no contributor. WR - similar or a little worse, with the loss of Shocky (and Grimes). Though Golden, Dakota Thomas, and Gathings have a lot of potential I think. OL - thus far worse. No transfer portal players brought in yet and a couple depth guys transferred out. If not addressed, we're banking heavily on current starters improving and and/or a few redshirt freshman which is a little risky. TE - same or better with all contributors returning. DL - I would say worse with the loss of Morton, Jones, and Harper. We've brought in Jones and Rabash. Neither have played at this level and Rabash was D2. No real young guys had a chance to show much this year. LB - same or better. Lost Boateng, but McCoy, Fish, and Griffin are exciting players who will continue to develop. CB - same or better. Lost Hooks, added Hunter. S - same or better. Lost nobody (not counting JKP as he was injured most of year). I like the trio of Woods, Thompson, and Martin. I think our weaknesses going into the offseason season are still weaknesses. Need an OL or 2 unless the staff is really high on the young guys, probably 2 more DL to be safe, and 1 or 2 more CBs. Though players always step up and contribute who you don't expect. Examples would probably be Lewis, McCoy, and Landers (only because he was a true freshman) just last year. Luckily it seems the staff seems to be on the same page with who has moved on and who we're offering, so I think most will be addressed. If so, 2023 should be a bowl season. We should be 4 scholarship players under the limit right now, so there is room. I also think there are more players we could afford to lose.

  7. Agreed that a bowl game ought to be a goal and I think that should be the minimum from here on out. The talent level should be on par with everyone in the MAC and potentially better than a few teams. Coaching will set the 2023 team apart from others. I loved how physical the team was playing in the last few games of the regular season and if we start out that way in 2023, who knows what can happen.

  9. I'd agree on paper Kent has an easier schedule. That said, I'm glad we only have 1 game at NIU and it was at home. It feels like going to Dekalb is always one of those head scratching losses

  10. Zips got totally screwed by the MAC on the schedule. Kent got the bottom feeders for the double games.

  11. One of the guys I thought it would make sense for. He was in his 3rd or so year of school last year and wasn't able to sniff the field, even being a transfer from FSU.

  14. Bingo. I think the overall style they play is what concerns me about how they will do once it comes down to Cleveland. Camp, while a huge addition, is way out of control at times. And when they get into situations like Saturday, decision making goes south and the passing is just abysmal. The Zips were dominating that game, the play-by-play tells the story. They went 4 straight empty possessions with a big lead in the 2nd quarter that could have given them a massive halftime lead. Without that one player to rely on for a bucket, this team looks real volatile to me at times. And that was just the case Saturday, in the blink of an eye, 30 minutes of stellar play was gone.

  16. Any info on a nee DL coach? Been a few weeks since it was first reported Debo was leaving. Figure nobody really wants to commit without knowing who their coach will be.

  17. Most posters on this site are MJ fans. We want her to succeed. If you are reading otherwise that's your problem. Since the end of last season the coach has had all that time to decide on her offense and how she was going to execute it. She has had nearly 9 months to develop or find the bodies to give us depth to support an up tempo style of play. Stinson looks fine when out on the court. In fact I see nice growth from her. She is moving her feet and learning what D1 conditioning demands. Thorpe and Stewart look to be lost and they play like it. No other significant PT is handed out. Coach has an issue and we hope she has a plan to solve it. If so we will be awesome for four quarters, not three.

  18. Considering Coach Vanderveer has over 1,000 more wins in her career I'm guessing she's getting a bit more leeway, but there's probably somebody questioning her.

  20. You think this Akron team is better than last years team? The team that would have beaten a very good UCLA team had Freeman not fouled out on a questionable moving screen. I feel this years team has a long way to go before it's performing at that level. If Hunter keeps playing the way he has the past two games, I do think reaching last years level of success is achievable.

  21. KSUcks, to quote Joey Tribbiani, will "fold like a cheap hooker who got hit in the stomach by a fat guy with sores on his face." Their arrogance, cockiness, etc., is exactly the type of culture you get with Pinky and InSincere. Not sure how many they'll lose in the regular season, but I wouldn't be surprised if they fail to reach the MAC Finals in March. MAC is wide open, and if Akron starts making their shots consistently, it's their MAC to lose until someone knocks them off (in March). Their pace of play is up (71.7 possessions per game), their pts per game are up (80 ppg last 3 games), and their defense is still stellar.
