  1. Saw some rumblings of Whigan getting some interest. Those would be the two who have a chance. Two more than we ever had in the Arth years

  2. Chris is currently 3-2 with a 4.82 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. He went 6 1/3 innings against the ChiSox allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, earning the win. Bassitt tied the major league lead in quality starts this season before exiting the game with lower back tightness. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like the righty will miss any time. He has allowed two or fewer earned runs in four consecutive starts lowing his ERA to 4.82. After allowing nine earned runs in his first start, the former Met has very much settled into his groove. The Toledo native is scheduled to start versus the Mariners on Sunday in Toronto.

  3. Not sure about that, but I appreciate your optimism. We return one player who has been a significant contributor at the DI level and no one coming in has played many, if any, minutes in DI. It's going to be a really young team with lots of opportunity to grow.

  5. No disagreement on his numbers. Hopefully his production speaks for itself and a team is willing to take a chance. The 6th and 7th rounds always have a few surprise picks. We’ll see.

  7. Yep, SJL and Whigan would be the two with the best chance. It’d be great if they were drafted somewhere on day 3 and it could be announced in front of all the recruits in attendance at the spring game.

  8. Any Zips enter NFL draft for this weekend? Specifically, is Shocky Jacques-Lois in? I think he could be a late rounder, perhaps?

  9. From Niagara Prep? Nice player. She seems like a good addition.

  10. Piece by piece, demolition crews tear down the remnants of the iconic Akron Rubber Bowl. It will be interesting to see what they do with the hillside.

  11. If the AD or Head Coach at Toledo were offered a gig making more at a big-time school how loyal would they be? Players are only doing the same thing coaches and ADs have been doing for years.

  13. I'm bummed to hear about the Surplus Sale not happening. I've found some really cool gear in past years at the event. I'm hoping that at some point, we'll be able to purchase more of a selection of items. I haven't been to the Team Shop in awhile but last time I wasn't impressed. Has it improved or does anyone know of a good place for gear? I remember a time when you could buy baseball game hats, team jerseys, etc.

  14. Nike gear is far more scarce, they barely have enough inventory to give enough to every coach, athlete, etc. that needs it right now. Hopefully it comes back in a few years, steeply discounted brand new Nike gear would be a fantastic selling point to get people in the building.

  15. It's way too early, and it may just be wishful thinking or the proverbial honeymoon period, but it just feels to me like Coach Gensler has already kicked our program up a notch.

  16. I would say last year, specifically, was a pretty good example of the times changing. As soon as the incident occurred with that horrible coach, it was addressed and she was let go. No BS suspension. UA has been just fine over the last 15 years in revenue sports, save for football but got the new stadium at least. As for the smaller sports in the margins—the baseballs, softballs, womens soccers, golfs, etc.—usually lagging behind. It says a lot about a school and athletic department when all of the programs, or most of them, are competing at a high level. I can’t really remember a time where all of those previously listed sports were regularly competitive. That would be great to see.

  17. In the 2023 NCAA D1 Women's Swimming and Diving Championship, the Lady Tankers finished in 36th place with 5 points (only 500+ points out of 1st). Senior Weronika Goreka led the Zips scoring raking up 4 points for a 13th place finish in the 200 Back. Junior Maddy Gatrell added 1 point by finishing 16th in the 100 back. The road to quick success for the Zips is obvious. We have to load up on a bunch of trans swimmers who were fairly good competing as men but will blow the swim caps off the competition competing as women. We must act quickly on this because it's only a matter of time before somebody with some common sense prohibits trans from female competition.
