  2. Hello Zips Nation. I am a St Bonaventure alum from the dark ages who has lived in the Akron area for 35 years. Big MAC hoops fan here, who tries to attend several Akron and Kent games a year. The Bonnies fan base really is looking forward to Saturday’s matchup at RM Fieldhouse. It should be a good one. Zips have a great roster with Ali back in the mix. Here’s some insight on the Bonnies: we started slow the first month, with a 3-point home loss in game 2 to rival Canisius that sent the fans into a sky-is-falling frenzy. Our other two losses are to top 30 teams Auburn and FLA Atlantic. Hopes are very high this season with all five starters returning from last year’s 14-18 season. It was the Bonnies first sub-500 record in more than a decade but we were very inexperienced. Now with three key transfers the Bonnies are the oldest team in D1. Go figure. Bona has been playing great D the last month while shooting much better. In a recent 10-point loss the Bonnies held FAU to 64 points … 23 below FAU’s average. Our downfall was 21 turnovers when FAU turned up the pressure. The Bonnies are lead by two grad transfers who have emerged as our best players. Mika Adams-Woods (6-3 PG from UCincy, 15 ppg) and Chuck Pride (6-5 wing from Bryant, 12 ppg) are experienced, solid guys who are childhood friends from Syracuse. Bonaventure gave them a chance to play together this season. It’s been a great fit. Exactly what the Bonnies needed. Woods is an excellent floor leader, defender and scorer … exceeding all expectations and stat lines from his 4-year Cincy career as a starter. Woods is shooting 60% from the field and 50% from deep. In one 3-game stretch Woods made 19 shots in a row including 10 three-pointers. He has 48 assists to 19 turnovers. Pride has deep, deep range. He’s a solid rebounder and passer who gets to the basket when healthy. He missed several games with a high ankle sprain this month and has been getting back up to speed. He was averaging 16 pts, 6.5 rebs before getting hurt. We are hopeful that Pride will benefit from having the holiday week off. The Bona big men, Venning and Brown, both are 6-10, 250+ lbs, — very physical dudes which is the MO for the Atlantic 10. They can score when not hurt by foul trouble which is about half the games. Unlike the Zips front-court players, our centers like to work inside and can bog down the offense if they don’t see double teams. How we match up on D with Freeman and Ali will be a key to the game. The Bonnies go 9 deep. We start four guys between 6-3 and 6-6. Barry Evans, a 6-8 high-energy athlete off the bench, likely we be our best option to control Ali or Freeman. Evans is a solid defender and rebounder … he can fill any role off the bench. Moses Flowers (6-4 win) is a dangerous outside shooter as our 6th man. Flowers is coming off of a career-high 25 vs Binghamton. Other starters are Darryl Banks III of St Peter’s NCAA fame two seasons ago, and Assa Essamvous (formerly Yann Farrel) are streaky shooters. Both have had games with 5 threes made in the last year. Banks has been struggling and losing minutes to Flowers. Despite a solid roster and some solid stats, the Bonnies have feasted on bad teams. Bona is prone to scoring droughts and sometimes too dependent on the three. The Zips will be a good test and it should be the best of the 3 games Saturday.

  3. Forgot to post this. Double Double leaders. The second-to-last number is the total games. Enrique has the most double doubles in the fewest number of the games. Wild. 5. And for some masochistic holiday reason you have the need to re-visit, yet again, the worst moment in Zips basketball. history. Just sayin'...

  7. I can breakdown the Zips for you: According to the Bradley Braves message board the Zips are: "Freeman and four other guys." So I guess now the Zips are "Freeman, Ali, and three other guys."

  8. The Zips wrap up their OOC schedule on the 30th with the A10’s St. Bonaventure at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. The Bonnies (that’s worse than Runnin’ Bulldogs) were predicted to finish third in the A10 and currently stand at 7-3 going into Saturday’s game against Florida Atlantic. 6’3” graduate guard, Cinci transfer, Mika Adams-Woods leads the Bonnies at 15.3 ppg. 6’4” graduate guard Charles Pride leads rebounding at 6.3 rpg. 6’3” guard Darryl Banks (9.1 ppg) was named to the A10 preseason first team while 6’10” forward Chad Venning (13.6 ppg/4.3 rpg) was named to the third team. Their 3 losses have come to Cansius, Florida International and Auburn. Their best win appears to be over Oklahoma State. They appear to be an older, experienced team like the Zips. This game should be a good barometer of where our Zips stand going into league play.

  10. Should put the Dambrot one in the SVSM gym.

  11. I was a 12 year old in the tunnel with the Rowdies getting ready to storm the court. This might've saved me from potentially getting trampled, but the pain of this moment is way worse than whatever pain would've come with getting trampled. Side note: Cedric Middleton spent countless hours shooting free throws in the gym following this moment. He use to coach me in private basketball lessons, and he would mention how much that missed free throws pushed him to be better going forward. Wood, Cedric, Rome, Dru, Linhart, etc. - one of the most deserving groups of guys that never got their One Shining Moment.

  12. I think so. He seldom gets mentioned and I think a lot of Zips fans do not realize how great he was or even that he was. Also, the way our AD is taking down banners of past coaches and all the Zips HOF photos in the JAR who knows how long any of those banners have.

  16. Ha ha. Funny stuff. Be happy to answer any questions about the Bonnies … I’m here all week (badaba). SBU fans enjoy beating up on Dambrot at Duquesne, though he has a good squad this year with 9 transfers on his 18-player roster. Yes, 18 players!! Would like to see us play the Zips more often. Some of our non-conference games have been a joke.

  19. Amazing longevity in MLS for some all time great zips... I believe that the 2024 season will be Wil Trapp's 12th year in MLS. Wil's Minnesota United team mate, Zarek Valentin.....will begin his 14th year in professional soccer in 2024. I believe that Zarek played 3 years in a Norway professional league. I believe that this will be Zarek's 11th year in MLS. I think that Nashville's Teal Bunbury started his MLS career in 2010....so 2024 should be his 15th year in the league. The spectacular Darlington Nagbe will be starting his 14th year in MLS in the 2024 season. I believe that Evan Bush had to play a few years in either USL league one or the NASL before he debuted in MLS. I believe that he first signed with an MLS team in late 2011. Scott Caldwell joined MLS at the same time as Wil Trapp......so Goal scorer Scotty also had more than 10 years in MLS. The speedy Jonathan Lewis is only 26 years old but the 2024 season will be JLew's 8th year in MLS. The great Richmond Laryea (better known as Richie)......will start his 9th year in professional soccer in 2024. I believe that Perry Kitchen....played 11 years of pro soccer....8 in MLS....and 3 in Scottish or Danish Leagues. and of course, when you talk about the all time greats.....that have played in multiple leagues.....including.....the English Premier League, MLS and the highest level Turkish league....we must talk about DeAndre Yedlin DeAndre started his career in 2013...so 2024...will be his 12th year in the highest levels of professional soccer. Of course, DeAndre has also played in multiple world cups for USA. I believe that DeA has more than 80 caps with USMNT. Soccer is a tough, physical game.....great credit to so many former zips......for having careers.....lasting well past a decade in pro soccer. I don't hear much about Joao Moutinho since he moved to the Italian Leagues....but Joao has been playing in MLS or Italy since 2018. fknbuflobo.....will give me grief...if I don't mention Aodhan Quinn. Aodhan Quinn (in my humble opinion) has been good enough to play in MLS. 2024 will be Aodhan's 11th year of being a truly great, dominating player in USL.

  20. I’ve posted a couple times of my disappointment about not signing Jonas Nichols, but I just wanted to say that Eric has a smooth stroke and is more athletic than Jonas.

  21. Bigger Robotham was my thought. I like the Tribble-with-a-jumper thought as well. Bottom line: this guy looks like an absolute dawg.

  22. I'm imagining this recruit is a Tribble who can actually shoot from the outside. That would be huge.
