I think it's all an indicator of the nature of Groce. He adapts to what he has rather than trying to pound square pegs into round holes. He has shooters and depth now, so it's off to the races with lots of three pointers. Last year, he had a dominant post player and not much depth and he slowed it down and played inside out. In Groce I trust.3 points

In the absence of a new AD to do it, unless Nemer is willing to step up and commit to Moorhead that the University will commit the resources to make the program competitive, why would he want to stay if offered a high paying opportunity elsewhere? That "despite the resources - or lack thereof - that we are provided" statement was not coincidental.2 points

This totally sums up the KSU mentality. jackattack108 • 6h ago • Am I the only one who’s a little disgusted by the actual near fight here? UC Irvine coach is getting crap talked by Kent State coaches while Kent state players come up and try to flex and look hard real close to the other team and the entire Kent state bench pushes forward. If this was 2 Kent states it’s a fight over nothing. UC Irvine meanwhile controlled all their players, let Kent state talk crap, backed up to give them their space. Not a good look for Kent state imo2 points

Akron is currently ranked #3 in the country in 3 point attempts per game. We also rank... #1 in FG attempts per game #4 in 3P made per game #16 in offensive rebounds per game #8 in assists per game Groce wants more. (do not look at our defensive rankings)2 points

I think I speak for a lot on this board when I say that I could not give a flying crap about this and would be just fine if all Zips fans didn't think about it anymore.1 point

PCCC's board is a blast to read right now. 0-12 parade talk Fans screwing up math in real time (typical for them) Worried about future schedules as their future schedules are wildly empty They only have games scheduled in 2025 (3), 2026 (2), and 2028 (1) For comparison, Akron has games scheduled in 2025 (4), 2026 (4), 2027 (3), 2028 (2), 2029 (1), 2030 (1), 2032 (1), 2033 (1) Reality setting in that Akron is actually getting better at football1 point

I appreciate the Meister bringing this great moment in Zip history to the attention of the board. To appreciate this game it is important to know a bit of the background leading up to the game. Tampa, coached by Earle Bruce, was moving up the ladder of respectability. I believed they had three future NFL players, one being John Matuzak, the second overall pick the year he went in the draft. They were moving up to D1 and they wanted to make a splash. They wanted to play Ohio State on a date OSU had open in their OOC schedule. At the time they offered an unheard of guarantee $250,000 for OSU to play them in Tampa. That was indeed huge for the time. The only problem was Tampa was suppose to play in Akron that day. Tampa said no problem Akron was nothing and Tampa would gladly forfeit any guarantee to Akron. OSU refused to consider the offer. You can probably guess how Akron took that. Gordon Larsen, Akron's best football coach ever had that plastered all over the locker room. Better than that he prepared the team magnificently. In front of the second biggest Rubber Bowl crowd ever (40,000+) the team came out on fire and dominated Tampa. I was on the sidelines with the soccer team, who played before the game, and I witnessed the most ferocious hitting I have ever seen. Against better athletes Akron destroyed Tampa. If you are looking for a time to be proud of Zip football this game is rivaled only by the 2005 MAC championship game. Hang in their Zip football fans. We have moments to savor.1 point

Also, there is some decent Zips gear with the "A" on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods. 50% off. It's the "colliseum" brand and not the "nike" merchandise.1 point

I concur with both of these posts. Being retired from the plastics and polymer business as a chemist in my "previous life" I have witnessed a steady decline in the original intent of this department and program. What was originally designed to train not only PhD candidates but undergrads and associate degree seekers to help populate a need for engineers, chemists and technicians slowly changed to a highly PhD driven program with most candidates from overseas. My company, as well as several other prominent Polymer companies donated cash and equipment, plus co-op opportunities and internships, hoping to see a return in employable, polymer science trained candidates for our industry. Even the American Chemical Society and it's Rubber Division, as well as the local Rubber Groups professional societies endorsed the programs and also provided financial support. But that supply dwindled as did support, as a lot of the rubber, plastics and polymer companies left the area. When we attended our daughter's graduation 5 years back the Polymer Science doctoral stoles were awarded, and reading the abstracts of their doctoral theses I was bemused at the subject matter and research, and thought how far away from the original intent they had strayed. And Hilltopper is right, it was a school top-heavy in Profs.1 point

1986 NCAA game vs Penn State, shootout win, I believe it was on Thanksgiving weekend. That win took the Zips to Fresno Sate for a Semi-Final game and then the following weekend to Tacoma for Akron's first appearance in the NCAA finals vs Duke.1 point

Actually it was a loss that was one of my favorite moments (to be honest nothing could have topped being at the national championship but this came very close for me). In 2018 when the Zips made the national championship, they played Maryland. My daughter had just graduated from there and happened to be in San Diego at the time. So I flew out and we went to the game together and it was pretty cool being with her and having her team win a National championship on the same field that the Zips had 8 years earlier.1 point

More and more 'fairness' is becoming a very lost element in our moral fiber. And sadly I'm just not talking about sports.1 point

Another pet peeve (and I know I'm losing this one before I even start ... but) The MAC CHAMPIONS are the Toledo Rockets The MAC Tournament winner/Champions are the Akron Zips The fact the 'reward' for winning the tournament is greater than the 'reward' for winning the regular season title, in my mind, does not negate the greater accomplishment (18-games vs. 3 games). But that's just me.1 point
