He's worsening his position. He's going from the 109th ranked defense to the 132nd. If his decision is financial, I guess I can live with that, but I can also criticize him. I have no problem crapping on college football players. They are adults and they are now professionals. There are a lot of 18-23 year olds playing in the NHL and MLB. When they play badly or make poor decisions in the fans mind, they get hit hard by the media and public. That's part of being a professional. Moreover, these guys are playing at taxpayer funded public institutions so they can take heat from that perspective also. They want the money, let them take the heat.3 points

This game is number one on the season for the number of times I have screamed a vulgarity.2 points

I’m not sure he’ll make an NFL roster and if 2025 happens to be his final year of football, it’s hard to blame him for making some money while he has a chance. It’s unfortunate we aren’t in a place to give a little something NIL wise, but that’s our current situation. I’d be really frustrated if he transferred to another MAC school and we had to play against him next year. On the bright side, I’m looking forward to seeing the young linebackers we have returning and who else we’ll be bringing in.2 points

Mikal Dawson dropped 27 for Marshall in that win. I'm glad to see he's playing well. He never looked the same post injury while at Akron.2 points

That’s kinda shitty. Hate to see him go but wish him all the best. He’s just trying to better his situation.2 points

I care. I 1) am an SVSM and UA alum; 2) enjoy D1 basketball; and 3) like free things. It's also fun to see it up close in the smaller setting.2 points

I agree Clark, but what about their "other" alma mater? Why not schedule a home/home with the Zips in the future?2 points

Not in this league ... check out some of the scores today (12/14/24) ... Nevermind, here is a wrapup: With BG at Kansas City still to play (drum roll) .. Toledo lost at YSU, Central Michigan lost at Valparaiso and Ohio Lost at Marshall. All of these were essentially .500 teams losing to .500 teams. The only winner was Ball State (well under .500) over Bellarmine (well under .500) a game I would bet was between two sub-Kenpom 300 teams. And don't forget, Bellarmine blew the doors off Toledo not that long ago. If the Zips can't win this league by 3-4 games then shame on Akron. And I say that without knowing if this team is truly really good or not. I know they are good. Just don't know if they are REALLY good. And let's not forget. Ohio and Toledo were expected to be top tier in the MAC this season. Jeez ...2 points

This is the start of a stretch that could determine an at-large bid. 😁 Sorry, couldn't resist.2 points

I agree, but I think we will have 3 week-long breaks this OOC schedule. It just seems too erratic for my liking.1 point

I listened to Groce on the post-game. He indicated that the defensive game plan going in was based upon Milwaukee being a poor three-point shooting team and then they were just on fire. They then made the adjustments at half to counter the threes and were then unable to stop them off of the dribble. He was relatively content with the offense but not at all with the defense. He also criticized the veterans for their approach at the beginning of the game while praising Young and MMK for their play despite their inexperience. He was also unhappy with the offensive rebounding disparity. Milwaukee is a decent team. They'll likely win the Horizon. As I mentioned in the post opening the thread, they were the preseason favorites along with Purdue-Fort Wayne. Their best player, Pratt, is now back. All that being said, the Zips who we consider to be the class of the MAC should not be thumped as they were by them. If the Zips performed like that on their exams we could have a lot of academic ineligibles coming up! Our bigs are not helping. Okonkwo, Lyles and MMK were 5 of 12 from the field, 0 for 1 from the line, had 6 rebounds and 11 points.1 point

There typically is a long break this time of year because we don't schedule games during finals week, which makes sense.1 point

I take issue with it when your next game vs a DI team looks like you thought you could sleep-walk through it like the DIII game. People complain about not playing any marquee P6 teams, but the real problem in the schedule is not making sure every game December on is DI level competition. I don't care about winning every game as much as I do making sure you're up for every game.1 point

We gave up the rebounding war, 46-28 and our defense was terrible giving up 100 points. Bad defense and bad rebounding is not a recipe for success.1 point

Worst broadcast ever. They replay every basket. The Zips play so fast we miss the score while they are showing the replay. Ridiculous!!!1 point

So much one on one basketball today. Getting run by a Horizon League team. This is on hell of an alternative to the Browns.1 point

Not given a chance to go to the arena or last night or earlier in the day for a shoot around/walk though.1 point

Milwaukee shot 65% from 3 on 17 attempts in the 1st half. That's gotta be close to a record.1 point

Announcer is doing both the radio and the TV call. They need to stop doing the replays while the ball is in play.1 point

Lyke may have interviewed but is still out of a job, mother in Akron area I believe and most importantly attended UA law school with … wait for it … RJ Nemer. Don’t put it past him to convince her.1 point

Catdaddy you are ever the optimist. With the loss of all our All-MAC players we really took a gut punch. I pray Joe and Company can, in spite of our losses, keep improving the quality of the team and the wins. G5"s, especially low G5's, have a mountain to climb.1 point

Offer to WR Tyshawn Russell. Fell out of the rotation at South Carolina with the new WR coach. Russell is a bit shorter and more compact than Adams, but similar type of speed.1 point

Zips should absolutely steamroll this league. Toledo and Ohio are supposed to be TOP CONTENDERS???? I apologize for past posts on CMU. Awful loss at Valparaiso. What's left. Miami??? ... Kent??? RedHawks have no defense to stop the Zips. Even if Kent's defense is stellar, Zips scoring 60-or more should still be enough to get the job done. What a pi$$-poor league.1 point

The MAC is so bad. Toledo lost to YSU. Ohio lost to Marshall. Balls did their job and near Bellarmine. Valpo whooped on CMU. Don't worry though. Steinbrecher is probably gonna write a strongly worded essay against court storming while the MAC continues to plummet competitively.1 point

It's the Dambrot-Dru-SVSM connection. If they wish to do something for their alma mater good for them.1 point

Milwaukee starts a nice pre-MAC stretch for the Zips vs. four teams between Kenpom 97 (Yale) and 154 (Milwaukee) all road/neutral games. The Zips are currently Kenpom 120, meaning a sweep, or perhaps even going 3-1, could lift the Zips into the Top 100 going into MAC play. No matter what (and should be no worse than 2-2 IMO) this is a nice prep run going into MAC play.1 point

This season was their first in Division 1 for all sports. It's got to be a tough sell for recruits because they aren't allowed to compete in the postseason for like 4 years or something.1 point

GVH could be the MH for Akron. Wish they’d forgo paying the search firm and just get it done already. He’s local sitting here ready to go. Either that or Heather Lyke who will back soccer in a big way as we’ve seen at Pitt. Hearing it’s one or the other so why waste time and money, especially if you have to pay a former power conference AD. We are losing momentum.0 points
