Blake Hester is playing for a DII National Championship on Saturday, as Valdosta State takes on Ferris State. Seems like he had a great season, with almost 1,000 yards rushing and 13 TDs.5 points

I think portal damage is relative to the damage inflicted upon the competition. Without knowing how the rest of the MAC is being impacted, it's hard to gauge.3 points

I disagree with this. Our defense and special teams will be heavier lifts to rebuild, but it's not like those were traditional 4 year guys. The talent we're losing we gained from the portal originally, meaning we can certainly gain that talent again. We're returning our starting RB (I know Kellom is gone, but he's not an irreplaceable talent by any means), the core of our WR room (Norton is gone, but Polk and others are back), and most importantly our starting QB. Look at the Portal - not many teams are returning their promising starting QB. I don't think the Portal is affecting our momentum one bit - yet. Should the above change and we see late additions to the Portal from our roster, or should we fail to replenish with talent, then I might change my mind. As it currently stands, though, we're in a good spot I think.2 points

It was a case of fatigued D at the end, but the striker showed great patience on the winner, Catamounts!2 points

Transfer from WVA was highly rated out of high school- Top Drawer Top 150 from IMG Academy in FL. Might be a very needed goal scorer.2 points

The Zips picked up a transfer from University of West Virginia. Appeared in one game as a freshman. https://www.instagram.com/p/DDp9ygExHE7/?igsh=eXppcTdpaW8yNGw42 points

I suspect that when a Big 10 school agrees to come to you that they control the day and time.1 point

Agreed. It’s too early to tell, but one thing this staff has done repeatedly is hit the portal at a high rate. We’ll know more come mid-January. We always land a few important contributors after spring ball as well. I’m not trying to minimize our losses, but I’m glad Zips fans are finally seeing that this staff has been recruiting talented prep players. I’ve been “banging the table” on that for some time now.1 point

Here is another MLS Mock Draft https://draftutopia.com/2025mlsmockdraft.html Good news and bad news for Zips fans..... Emil is again forecasted to be the #2 overall pick in the draft. The bad news is that the writer lists 90 players that he thinks....will be drafted. Emil is the only zip forecasted to be drafted. Be sure to read to the bottom of the note....at the bottom, I share who the ESPN soccer broadcaster....predicted to win the Hermann Trophy That just does not pass my smell test. Dyson Clapier and Malik Henry were both drafted in the top 40 last year. Are they tied to the team that drafted them last year? There is no possible way that Beto Ydrach is not one of the 90 best draft eligible players. Mitch Budler was 3rd team all american. I do not know if Mitch is draft eligible (Juniors can be drafted) but Mitch is one of the Best GK's in the country. In this mock draft, I was absolutely floored by the dominance of the 4 college cup teams in this mock draft. This writer predicts that Ohio State will have 3 players selected in the top 10 and that Denver will have 5 players selected in the top 25. Again, I know nothing about this writer.....but The talent gap between Akron and the college cup teams .....to me ...is not this extreme. Writer has 7 players being drafted for 3 different teams (Denver, Vermont and Marshall) 1 player for Akron ????? - I Just don't agree with this writer. Let's look at the 4 college cup teams Ohio State 1. Michael Adedokun 8. Siggi Magnusson 10. Nathan Demian (this was the young man , who was shot as he was walking home....the night of OSU QF win...he was innocent bystander and was not able to play against Marshall) 33. Deylan Veilos 41. Anthony Samways Denver 4. Sam Bassett 16. Ian Smith 19. Jason Belloli 20. Trevor Wright 25. Ronan Wynne 62. Oje Ofurein 68. Ben Smith Vermont 9. Yaniv Bazini 11. Sydney Wathuta 24. Nathan Simeon 34. Mike Bleeker 40. Aarean Schultze Solano 55. Zach Barrett 69. Max Murray Marshall 13. Lineker Rodrgiues Dos Santos 21. Marco Silva 29. Tarik Pannholzer (this young man was super impressive in college cup....if Marshall had won, Pannholzer should have been voted Most outstanding player) 39. Takahiro Fujito 42. Tajima Okiyoshi 43. Alex Bamford 51. Theo Goddard At halftime, the one ESPN soccer broadcaster....asked the other Broadcaster(Devon Kerr).....to predict the final 3 for the Hermann Trophy...and to predict the winner Devon Kerr could not narrow it down to 3 his final four were: Michael Adedokun , Ohio State ....11 goals and 11 assists Sam Bassett, Denver......13 assists Lineker Rodrigues Dos Santos, Marshall....15 goals Emil Jaaskilainen, Akron......23 goals Devon Kerr said that Emil Jaaskilainen has been the best player in college soccer and that Emil should win the Hermann Trophy1 point

The second bullet is a good idea because spring practice is a waste of time. The other two just delayed the inevitable. Players are going to leave. Everyone knows who they are. What if they refuse to practice or play? The idea of moving the TP entry back assumes a player can be forced to play.1 point

Baker Mayfield's high school. Looks like a great get. 6'1" 230 lbs is a great foundational size for an incoming freshman.1 point

It really doesn't destroy much either way - NIU isn't really losing any major longstanding rivalry the way an Akron would if they left the MAC, and who (beyond maybe Ball State) has any buzz when NIU comes to town? If there was one team to lose that wouldn't really upset the status quo either way (despite their success at times), it's probably NIU. The value is likely in lower travel expenses in the Horizon League for everything else (more than offsetting the increased football travel) plus probably a little more TV revenue. This definitely isn't a risk-free move, I'll agree. But I see why NIU is going to try it.1 point

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and I needed to vent. I have really become frustrated with how the football program has been treated by the administration, and the athletic department, I think we all heard the frustration in Joe's interview after the Toledo win. They schedule 3 of the toughest programs in the country brings in millions of dollars to the school yet they don't even have a meal program for the players; their athletic training program is not what a division ! program should be, and Akrons children's hospital maybe great for kids but for adult football players not so much, and In this day and age a division 1 college football program cannot survive without NIL money which Akron has none, so they are losing players that make a difference to the portal for the promise of 20,000, not millions. Don't be surprised if some quality players leave for the portal after this year. The Zips have one of the most respected coaching staff in college football so don't be surprised if they start to disappear . I don't know how much money the football team made from playing teams like Ohio State, and South Carolina, but I know it certainly does not get much back for the team. I do have one question? Who pays for the administration to go to the away games because they where all there in Columbus, Ohio and Columbia, South Carolina, (don't know about New Jersy was unable to go). Yet there is no concern for the health or welfare of the players who are playing those teams. I have been around football for a long time and I know quality programs breed success. The business of football has changed and Akron has not kept up with the rest of the country and the rest of the MAC and until they do the MAC championship they won in 2005 maybe their last.1 point
