Well yeah, Akron has to instead pay FCS teams six figures to come to Akron in front of 4,700 people. There's just no choice but to get rid of these sorts of games.2 points

This is awesome! We used to play this at games? Probably wouldn’t be allowed today since it’s not sponsored by Hopkins airport, Digital Sandwich, or Smoosh Cookies2 points

They said something along the lines of "competitive balance" but to me, it seems like a way to ensure higher seeds get to play worse teams. In the past, many first & second round matches were geographically based. I assume the top 16 still get a bye and 17 thru 24 would not.1 point

The Robert Morris game this year literally paid for itself with the OC for a series promotion. Getting rid of the FCS game would mean getting rid of those type of promotions as well. Edit: Also, it's probably not exactly cheap to fly ~100 people to California and put them up in a hotel for 2 nights. There is an expense associated with playing those games. Less than the ~$300K we paid Robert Morris, but still likely a 6 figure expense.1 point

The exhibition games with YSU are the closest the staff could manage to a home and home.1 point

Certainly missing Oggie. He was easily 1st or 2nd team. Likely POY in the Metro Atlantic.1 point

I would roll with the 16 man roster. Mahaffey was named to the preseason All-MAC team so he and Oriol will be playing unless something changes. Huge losing streak by the NCAA in court recently, too.1 point

The Akron team that was on the field last night ...would lose badly to the Akron team that defeated Wake Forest earlier in the year. This team has talent....as evidenced by some of the quality wins earlier in the year. The team that played Cleveland State (#154 in RPI) last night....is not deserving of an NCAA top 16 seed. As evidenced by wins over top 20 teams (Cornell and Wake Forest), the team is capable of winning many games in the NCAA tournament. The defense on this team is elite. Matthew Paiva should be the Big East defensive player of the year. Cole Perez is one of the best freshmen in the country. I hope that last nigh's close encounter ...will provide a spark and lead to an inspired performance Saturday night against a co Big East Midwest leader.1 point

My understanding was that Ezana Kahsay (not a team captain) challenged his teammates following the late season (Oct 20, 2018) loss at shite Northern Illinois. After that the Zips went on a 9-game winning streak ... capturing the MAC Tournament title on the road at WVU, then winning a 1st round NCAA game at home, and Round of 32, 16, and Elite 8 games on the road and crushed Michigan State 5-1 in the College Cup semifinal in Santa Barbara before being defeated by Maryland 0-1 in the NCAA Championship game; a winning streak that included defeating #1 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC. Does our 2026 team have a catalyst and the heart to put together such a run? With determination and some help, we can still make the BE Tournament; With RPI currently at 11, we're still in position to earn a seed in the NCAA Tournament, but only if this team has the mentality to come together and make it happen. We've been treated to some nice Zips' crowds on the road this season supporting this team. I just booked travel for the game at Marquette on Nov 6th. Come on Zips, make this happen!!!1 point

Miami and Toledo probably have the most returning talent. I imagine that played a major part in coaches picking them 1 & 2. That would be my guess. I like the guys Akron brought in, but MAC coaches aren't going to be familiar with them. Especially for guys like Colin White who they have little tape on.1 point

Just watched the media day interview, a few notes (paraphrasing what was said): - Fingers crossed Evan is eligible, said he has been practicing with the team but hasn't played in either scrimmage - Said they played really well in one scrimmage, not so well in another - Likes the flexibility the roster provides...can play big, can play small, can play fast, can slow it down...loves the depth they have. - Thinks their x-factor will be defense and rebounding...loves their toughness - Tahj said he will be a two-way player and an extension of Coach Ford on the floor - Tahj has two sons, 5 and 4 years old. Coach Ford said he sets a great example as a father1 point

I believe Shammah is new as well. Imagine the conversations being had among everyone there. The new guys need to be sponges. Incredible opportunity for them to soak in all the Akron winning culture.1 point

They posted some more photos today with Enrique and Ali now there also. Didn't see them in yesterday's photos. The amount of championships in that gym is crazy!1 point

Not sure where to put it but it appears we have a OOC schedule casualty resulting from the MAC 9-game schedule. https://fbschedules.com/san-jose-state-akron-cancel-future-home-and-home-football-series/?ref=bythebelt.com0 points
