Akron mentioned in here as one of two options for Groce. (Groce always auto corrects to Groceries)
That would be a plus for me. I really don't want to to see any of the old regime. As for Groce(which is a pipe dream) , the players would at least know he has the ability to get them where they want to be.
And I'm so, so happy that Wilson is making this choice and not Scarborough.
Candidates for the AKRON JOB - Terry Weligand, Brandon Weems , Jeff Boals , Anthony Stacey, Charles Thompson, Lamont Paris, Chris Jent
That list was great. But two of them are really tall. I don't know if I'm ready for that much change.
Oh, I always ask that! And if the person didn't actually attend Ohio State he or she gets a sneer or maybe an eye roll.
I don't know about you all, but I'm done with the Dambrot threads. The new coach is all that matters now. I'm all for paying big bucks and getting the best...But with youth and exuberance.
Right. This was a selfless move. Don't you see that? Am I the only one? (I've taken this thread off the rails.)
So...Lamont Paris? Chris Jent or Chris Jans?
And Dambrot knew this. He couldn't keep the facade up much longer. I went to that surreal net cutting before the MAC tourney and listened to him speak. Something clearly wasn't right. He was going through the motions. Maybe he left Akron because he knew there was nothing more he could do here. And give the Zips an opportunity to move onward and upward. (And get a big raise and take a few of our recruits).
AKZipper I totally agree with you. As a fan, I'm looking forward to something new in the JAR instead of stagnation. Each season was a bone chilling repeat of prior season. Will we go 15-15 next year with a few awesome wins and some upsets? Maybe. And that would be better at least to me than this ho him meaningless 20 win seasons.
The best analogy I can come up with is that Dambrot decided to buy the worst house in a high end neighborhood rather than the best house in a crap neighborhood.
I guess I should backtrack on my comment that the MAC isn't a one-bid league by rule. The problem is that the strength of competition in the MAC is so weak that you have to go OOC to find a quality win. If you go to a bottom-feeder in the Atlantic 10 at least you have confirmed two games a year against top flight competition. That makes the OOC scheduling a lot less daunting.
Dambrot recruited TDM when no one else would, so his loyalty on surface (not knowing any of these people personally) is understandable. And a big thank you to Keith for keeping ZipsNation basketball forums open and in business for the next 6 months.
I don't read Antino's tweet that way. I read it like he wants to break that cycle. Give these kids time to sort this out. Think about how all of us react hastily to a simple botched play or blown lead and we are just fans. These guys are facing huge change.
