Darien Dailey was the star (if there is such a thing today) on defense. He played well throughout the contest. I wish I could share zipsoutsider's optimism but six wins is a real stretch to me. I can't believe, after watching today, that we will win more than 4 total. Kwads showed his speed, and the move of Ericksen to center in the first half was a great adjustment that gave TW more time. Why they went back to Quigley in the second half is beyond me. Boxen, Camara were both invisible, but Williams played well on the D line. But GOD....those stoooopid penalties!

I haven't gone on the Iowa State thread yet, just stopped here first, but my number 1 point was going to be so similar to BuckZip, I had to post. Season after season, game after game, the Zips can be counted on to destroy any chances they have by stupid stupid penalties. It is unbelievable, and BuckZip is right. Hey, an offsides, a motion, a holding while trying to hold off a rusher....those can be lived with. Penalties caused by hustle, okay. But Personal Fouls, time and again, 15 yards at a crack, either stop a Zip drive or keep an opponent's drive alive. And it is every week. Every freakin' week. I was always taught and I have always believe these type of penalties are a lack of discipline, and it's either going after the wrong type of player recruit-wise, or lack of coaching. BuckZip hit it on the head. Kato Nelson, what an idiot. Not that it mattered in the game score, but why did you think, being down 41-14, and you in a clean-up role, to taunt an opponent after a run against their second team....on their sidelines. The Defensive stop earlier, when it mattered, on 3rd down and the face mask in a scrum no less....these are unbelievable. And guess what? It's not like it's something new. Watch every season for the last five and you'll see game after game after game where we self-destruct with this kinda crap. We beat ourselves a helluva lot.

Thanks Cy...I watched him play football, basketball and throw discus. I've alsays loved the kid. I agree on the RS. Got a head start on his academics, so no reason to hurry. Kyle is class.

Has Kyle got any P-T at QB yet for U at B?

Happens more than you think. A few seasons ago on at least 3 occasions we showed up and there were people in our seats and when we politely told them, they asked if we could just take the two next seats! When we said we knew those pople and we knew they were coming to the game, the interlopers acted perturbed as they moved...chutzpah was not the term I used!

I went ISU +11 also, and I think Park will have a lot of yards throwing against us. I think WB will carry he workload, but then when we get behind we'll throw and down will come Warren's carries. So we need to throw to him as said above...but Park will throw for 350, and ISU wins 28-17...

The Women held their own against a damn good Dayton team but came up a goal short, but they played hard, and everyone seemed content with the effort, if not the result. Amato making up for lost time since she returned to play. Interesting that the Dayton goalkeeper coach played for Stow High School, Matt Tipton. Friday night will tell us more before the MAC begns, as they play Duquesne. Men are away on Saturday, and Friday's forecast is very good - 78 and sunny, so Friday night would be a nice night to watch some Zip Soccer....

Totally agree. There are still the video boards on I-77 and I-76 that show GameDay info, but even at the other sporting events, they don't do good job of keeping casual fans up-to-date on upcoming MSOC, WSOC or VB matches in the near future.

Hasn't he turned out to be a beast? Long way to go, but there is hope Jason might...might not be the only Zip in Canton...

It was also Labor Day weekend...but I also noticed a lot of unsold season ticket seats available.

What Zips Newcomer Would You Like to See More?

I voted Burkhart, I just think he has such an upside, but agree with Blue & Gold on Kato's need for some seasoning sooner rather than later. -
Zips in Soccer Heaven (i.e., UCSantaBarbara...)
ZipsVoice replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Hi guys! In West Virginia on a golf trip, and following Zips football win over Ark - PB and now soccer first half in SB...thrilled with score at half, on stat tracker...MARCEL!!! keep it up Zips!! And hopefully my play on the course continues to be productive. Ryder cup format, 16 guys, North vs. South...maybe too much Titos tonight, I don't know... -
Thanks Doc, I thought I had heard that last season....
-
I meant we'd dominate the game on the field but it wouldn't show up as TDs scored. Something will always bollox it up....a fumble in the red zone, an interception in the red zone, a holding penalty that takes up out of scoring position....you know, like the last three seasons in every game....
-
We win decisively, but not on the scoreboard. Ball will be featured until he gets to the 150 yd mark then sits. Tommy (or is it Thomas? Didn't he tell SID he wanted to be called Thomas last year??) will get hit hard on a late hit and injure his shoulder again, and will miss the second half, so not many yards....

College Soccer News, for what it's worth has us #26 this week after a 1-2 start. But we were #20 the week before, and dropped after beating Washinton, and they dropped from #10 to #13!!!!! -

Regional Poll for Great Lakes has WVU #1, BGSU #4 and us #8!!! What???? Need to go out west and midwest and beat the Gauchos and Billikens, no misteps, the bring out all the Rowdies for the U MASS Lowell match....and stick around after and give the WSOC a little support (they need it!) against Western Michigan at 3..... -
I think we're giving them 20 boxes of Zippy Kangaroo Cookies, if I heard right.....
-
I did not watch the game...so for what it is worth...I have not posted anything about the PSU game....but I will say Kato did NOT impress in the Spring game, nor has he "lit it up" in practices...not being a know it all, just saying...

I'n in Statesville every six weeks....my biggest client has a plant there. If you make the trip....add a little extra time and stop in Dobson at Shelton Vineyards, you can't go wrong! But it might make the "easy 5 hour drive" an over-nighter at the Hampton - complete with a wine bar! Not that I know anything about that stuff....

Another lost weekend for WSOC. Thursday vs. Cleveland St. they played hard and defended well, but couldn't push the "score" button, and today was the same thing. They deserved a point on Thursday, but dropped it in the second OT period, and the Niagara goal today was a roller between GK's feet, but she was screened off seeing the...err...shot. Thursday was a solid physical match, but Sunday was a lethargic first half. But they played very hard and pressing in the second. The youth is showing, not sure they're used to playing at this speed for 90 minutes yet. Still a fun team to watch though, and they really try. Rachel Eck got in for the first time and had some promising looks. Catie Corrigan was all hustle off the bench in the second half, Anamarie Alfery had a nice match at right wing. Erica Schrader still shows leadership and hustle. It's gonna turn around, it's just a question of when?
