Second Exhibition Game - West Virginia Tech
Zips1991 replied to NYC ZIP's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Thanks to you and nice person at the game for the updates! Glad to see that Bahur and Alem were involved in the goals as I thought both played well on Saturday. Based on the starting XI being the same for both matches (other than GK), it seems like that may be set, but as we know, subs are important in college soccer. While we may not have as many clear cut stars as last year (Emil, Dyson, Malik, etc.), hopefully the overall depth is better and that can balance things out. -

Thank you! Any idea of who played in the first half? -
Second Exhibition Game - West Virginia Tech

I suspect this match will mostly be newer players and those further down the "depth chart", as there is another match on Friday. Those going to the match tonight, please share updates as I will not be attending. Midweek preseason matches against NAIA teams do not make it appealing for a 45 minute drive each way. 😄 -
2024-25 Post Mortem and Looking Ahead to 2025-26
Zips1991 replied to Zippy87's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Ironically, according to archived stories on GoZips.com, last year the non-conference schedule was released on August 12th. And then the conference schedule was released on August 14th. -
2025 Rankings and RPI thread
Zips1991 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
This feels more useful than the Coaches poll that just copied the final rankings from last season. Also, interestingly, Akron is #30 (receiving votes) and this used to be a Top 30 poll until this year, as noted in their intro. -
First Exhibition game - St. Bonaventure
Zips1991 replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
They generally don't publish the score or a game summary for exhibition games, probably at the coaches' request. It's strange considering the games are open to the public, but it's been that way the last few years at least. Anyways, the Zips won 2-0. Two goals from Ferguson in the first 22 minutes. The starters mostly came out at halftime and the 2nd half was a little disjointed as you may expect. -
It's becoming harder to not believe that Akron's days as a soccer powerhouse are limited, given the increasing importance of money in college athletic success and Akron's obvious lack of resources.

Vermont's schedule is now listed on their site and it confirms Akron travels to Vermont on September 13th (6 pm on ESPN+): https://uvmathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/schedule

Zips in Summer Development 2025
Zips1991 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
We may need him to step up the goal scoring this fall, so it's nice to see him hot coming into the season! -
I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere yet, but big congratulations to Malik on making his MLS debut last night!

To my untrained eyes, there's an 8th Big East game (as you mentioned) that I would think is October 10 or 11. Plus, I think there will be a game on Labor Day at home, as that's pretty common. Then, the other two would just be guesses based on the gaps in the schedule above, but I think there would be a game on September 12 or 13 and another on October 22 maybe?
-
Great schedule so far, no doubt.

Nice job by everyone who tracked those down. Here's the aggregated list so far. Very strong so far. Friday, September 5: @ Ohio State Tuesday, September 23: vs. St Louis Saturday, September 27: @ Butler* Friday, October 3: vs. St John’s* Saturday, October 25: at Xavier* Saturday, November 1: vs. Marquette*

Zips Softball split today's doubleheader with Buffalo, which moved them to 13-9 in the MAC and clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2017. Top six teams play May 7-10 at Firestone Stadium.

Any news on today's match against Michigan?
-
I believe, based on my experience at the tourney in Pittsburgh last year, there has to be an hour between the end of game 2 in the first session (in this case, GCU vs MD) and the start of game 1 of the second session (Akron vs Arizona), which is why our game is pushed back to 7:48. Because they have to clear out the arena and then let fans back in.

How did we look overall? Any stand out performers other than Mitch?
-
Quick, what section are the Akron tickets in for tomorrow? I want to buy next to it instead of the $50 through the ticket office.
-
I thought he had signed to play somewhere?
-
I thought of this after I posted, so I guess we probably are technically in. But I think the conference is waiting until Saturday to announce it just so they don't have to worry about figuring out tiebreaker scenarios. Lol
-
I could be completely wrong, but I don't think they technically have. Because they're 7 games ahead of teams currently #7-9. But one of those is CMU who we play again. So if CMU beats us, they could hold a tie breaker. Obviously none of this will matter as we'll win another game and those teams will lose again. 😆

South Alabama is ranked higher in the NET than every MAC team other than Akron, so it should be a good matchup. Although I imagine we'll be favored by at least 5-7 points.

Nate went off with about 2 minutes left. I couldn't tell if it was an injury or just a cut. Hopefully nothing that will cause him to miss Friday.
-
Yeah, seems to almost always be with the NBA team, especially for home games, but isn't always active.
-
Although he hasn't been active for the Pacers in a couple weeks, I saw on Enrique's IG account that he made the trip to Paris. Whether he plays or not, it's great that he gets to make such a memorable trip!
